>> good morning. i'm randy price. >> i'm emily riemer. stories on the eyeopener right now. a sexual predator on the loose in boston. the search underway right now and the warning for women. >> controversial police body camera program takes center stage in boston. what to expect at a hearing today. >> and damage left behind in the wake of hermine, and we're not out of the storm yet. the concerns moving forward now. right now, hermine is weakening off our coast as it moves northwest. >> we'll go right to cindy. she's tracking the impact still we're having this morning. >> good morning to you both. you can see hermine spinning to our south by about 100 miles. but it is in the process of weakening, so the effects are going to be minimized compared

showers. very light ones, some mist, drizzle spiraling around the center of that storm. notice the winds kicking up, gusts 20 to 30 miles per hour, the cape, islands, and south coast. even up in worcester around bedford, you'll notice winds gusting over 20 miles an hour. that wind is coming off the water. a lot of fog out there reducing the visibility a couple of miles out in worcester. under two miles in beverly. mist, drizzle, fog. not a great start heading back to work. temperatures in the upper 50's worcester. lower 50's boston. little temperature change this morning. as we get toward lunchtime, mist and drizzle ease and warming to the 70's. even though the winds are beginning to wind down, we are looking at rough surf along the south coast, the cape.

and waves and when the weather improves. >> the slow and sloppy arrival of hermine is being felt right now in new bedford, the south coast. conditions were rough enough yesterday to close some beaches and suspend ferry service from hyannis to new bedford. the steam ship authority has canceled service today. all service will operate on a trip-by-trip basis. the coast guard also is urging other boaters to use extreme caution. >> i any reason, make sure you have all the safety equipment, life jackets, anything of that nature. >> coast guard is also asking boat owners to make sure mooring lines are secure and make sure to label kayaks and personal watercraft with a name and phone number in case they break free so they don't search for someone who is not missing. >> and there are problems away from the coast. trees weakened by weeks of drought taken down by hermine's

effects as the trees then take down power lines. this big tree in newton came crashing down on the roof punching a hole in the door. the inside of the cracked trees are hollow and rotted. one man heard something hit the house and knew it was big. >> i heard a noise, like a thundering noise. the house was shaking. >> no injuries from those downed trees. just some minor damage. and as you morning, you may see some impacts from hermine on the roads. olessa, how are we looking? >> pretty good shape, emily. the secondary roadways, you may find downed tree limbs. here's a look outside. over to the maps, not looking at any overnight construction because of the weather last night. if you're heading into boston, you're fine. south doing okay on 24, route 3 and 95. the pike is quiet and so is your trip out of new hampshire

emily, randy? >> breaking overnight, a driver is in custody after this crash in boston. police say the woman rear-ended a state police cruiser on interstate 93 south near exit 18 in dorchester, the southeast expressway. the crash happened about 1:00 this morning. nobody was seriously hurt. the driver was given a sobriety test and then taken into custody. >> right now, boston police are asking for help to track down a suspect wanted for a sexual assault on the greenway. poli walking toward the greenway carousel after 4:00 monday morning when she was attacked by a man she did not know and the suspect ran away. >> the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash is due in court today. johnette sims of dorchester was killed saturday night when a car ran her over in mat tan. anthony buchanan kept going. sims was 46 years olda mother of

we can't ever get her back. we will never see her again. >> it's just no words right now. it's a jock. >> anthony buchanan is facing charges of drunk driving and homicide. this attleboro woman is accused in a drunk driving crash in conk. she crashed into a jogger. two men in two different trucks followed elliott for a mile. they trapped her until police got there. the victim, a man in his 50's, is suffering serious injuries. >> a campus police officer at framingham state university will go before a judge today. wilter dormevil is charged with committing a lewd act on campus. fsu's command staff was notified about the incident saturday. dormevil is on leave and banned

as a revere auxiliary police officer. both sides are preparing arguments. john atwater is live in boston with a preview of what could be a tense court hearing. >> it could be, emily. the pilot program was supposed to start last week, but the union filed a temporary injunction to block it. so that has led to some delays here. now, the program was supposed to with the department in july. but no officer signed up. the commissioner assigned the cameras. the plan calls for 100 officers from different districts to wear the cameras for six months. that was supposed to start september 2. but the date has been pushed to september 12. the officers will also get $500 for taking part in that program. the commissioner could be called to testify at that hearing today, and that hearing could

i want my money back. >> up in maine, we were getting a lot of wind as well and some rain finally. >> finally, yeah. we've got some rain, but overall, the biggest impacts from the storm out at sea with rough surf. we did see stronger winds yesterday. hermine turning west-northwest and weakening. winds at the center of 65 miles an hour. yesterday, we clocked a gust on nantucket of 58 miles per hour. force winds from edgartown over 50, falmouth over 50. even brookline, a guest of 43 miles an hour. there are a lot of weakened trees due to the drought. we have limbs and branches that have come down. scattered reports of damage across the area. hermine is continuing to spin to our west and weaken all the way. this is no longer, as you can see clearly by looking at satellite here, a very organized system, but it does have a low-level circulation that is

it's going to continue to track westward and weaken more as the winds come down to 50 miles per hour. as we get into the day on wednesday, it will begin that push off to the west as the winds come down even more. so each day, today into tomorrow, the effects of this thing on us are going to be gradually weakening until it pulls away finally on thursday. you can see the surf is still kicked up with waves more than five, six feet here off the waters to our south. but with this moving to the west now, the highest seas are shifting off to the west, and that's where the strongestnd now are down over block island and the winds are going to build higher along the connecticut coastline today than our coastline, but wind gusts 20, 30 miles per hour. you can plan on those throughout the day as hermine sits about 100 miles here in the waters to our south. now, around hermine, we are finding these bands of very light showers, some mist, some drizzle. so you are going to want an umbrella today. a lot of kids head back to

after the long holiday weekend. we're starting off cool. a fallish feel out there this morning. 59 in worcester. low to mid 60s and closer to 70 degrees on cape cod this morning. over the next 12 hours, the clouds are sticking around. there will be periods of mist and drizzle. look at this wind out of the east-northeast. 15, 20 miles per hour. there may be some breaks mid to late afternoon. i would plan on an overcast day with mist and drizzle at times. 70's around boston to worcester. mid 70's in a few spots, especially as we see breaks in the clouds this afternoon. the winds not nearly as strong as yesterday. as we go through the day, we will see gusts 20 to around 30 miles per hour on the south coast and the cape, but that's about it. we're not talking about the damaging winds that we did have across the area yesterday, and you can see through the morning hours all the clouds, a couple of patches of showers, mist, drizzle continue into the afternoon. there could be a few breaks here

things don't change a whole lot tonight. we'll stay locked in the clouds with mist and showers around. rainfall amounts not all that impressive. generally talking about areas getting 1/4 inch or less. closer to the center of hermine, that's where we could see closer to 1/2 inch of rain. we get into the day tomorrow, and we still have a lot of clouds. hermine is nearby. i think we're not talking about as many showers as today. notice the cloud cover in the morning. we get into the afternoon and the showers kind of pivot away. going to start to break for us. temperatures tomorrow a little warmer, in the upper 70's. on thursday with hermine out of the picture, sun is back. it's warmer, more humid. we're in the mid 80's, around 90 on friday. cold front coming in with a few thunderstorms possible late in the day, but still we don't really see the temperatures getting all the way back down till the end of the weekend. so summer making a comeback for the end of the week. still a couple more days before hermine is completely out of our hair. >> thank you, cindy. the roads this morning are

angels pitcher matt shoemaker is recovering after emergency surgery following this hit during sunday's game. shoemaker suffered a skull fracture and internal bleeding when he took a baseball off the head at 105 miles per hour. he was able to walk off the field, but the surgery was necessary to stop the bleeding. the angels general manager says he hopes to have shoemaker back for next season. >> the red sox can't get it done against the padres out west. scoreless until the fourth inning when the two quick runs. chris young got the sox on the board with this shot here in the eighth, but that would do it for them. 2-1 the final. the first pitch tonight is at 10:10. if you're hungry for breakfast, this might curb your appetite. joey chestnut maintaining his top spot as american's best chicken wing eater. he ate 188 wings in 12 minutes during yesterday's competition.

chestnut won by 11 wings and walked away with $2500. i'm just not sure it's worth it. >> i watched him do that. i'm thinking, oh, my gosh, i hope it all goes down. >> i don't know. no thank you. >> i don't think i'll ever understand that. >> i agree. >> the hot dug one, all of them. >> all right. you're up early this morning. probably headed back to work after the long holiday weekend. it's a little this morning. these are the current wind speeds. winds are coming out of the east-northeast at about 10 to 20 miles per hour with higher gusts especially along the south coast and the cape. this is still a function of what's left of hermine spinning some batches of showers that are very light. some patchy mist and drizzle. you can see it showing up on the radar around the greater boston area. this is the case through most of the day as what's left of hermine still sitting here just about 100 miles to our south. but it is in the process of

overall. the winds are going to be a little bit lighter. we're talking about gusts between 20 and 30 miles an hour on average. just a few showers from time to time. some drizzle as well. but at the beaches, still dealing with rough surf and a rip current with overall our waves not nearly as high as they were yesterday. they're about three to five feet just off the cape and down along the south coast still getting some waves six feet. but higher as you go to the west, because that's where hermine is headed. it's drifting toward the west right now. so if getting near the water today, i just want to let you know at the beaches we're talking about two to five-foot surf. water to the south, up to 10 feet. the rip current risk is going to remain high today, and that's going to continue on into wednesday as well. weatherwise, we're locked in the clouds with showers. lower 70's. look at the heat to our south. once we can kick out hermine, there's some decent weather waiting for us.
