cameras in the boston police department. our shaun chaiyabhat is live in boston, shaun the stalemate is over just how these body-cam assignments will be handed out? reporter: yes, at issue is whether officers, volunteer, or are ordered to wear by cameras. the pilot program that called for 100 officers to volunteer to where the body cameras. however, none of volunteered. the police commissioner began to order officers to test the program. the police union says this was a violation of an agreement the union made with the police department. city attorneys today alleged the union somehow coerced officers into not volunteering. >> did you take any action to discourage your members to volunteer? >> not at all. >> why did you decide to it> a sign officers?

having us out there, from july 18 to july 29, we extended five days because we didn't get any volunteers, that there was no way anyone would go into volunteer at this point. reporter: officers were supposed to start wearing the body cameras last week. of course, all of that is now on hold until the court makes the decision hopefully by the end of the week. heather: thank you. right now, boston police are looking for the suspect in a sexual attack. police say it happened around 4:00 yesterday morning on the greenway. police say the victim was walking toward the carousel. there when she was attacked by a man she did not know, who then ran off. ed: brock turner, the former stanford university swimmer convicted of raping an unconscious woman, has now registered as a sex offender. turner registered in his ohio hometown, where he is living with his parents. about a dozen protestors gathered at the greene county sheriff's office. turner's six-month sentence for the rape triggered national outrage.

heather: not to commitment and 2016. the race for the white house is now in the home stretch. ed: we are past labor day. hillary clinton and donald trump putting the focus on critical swing states. our ben simmoneau is here with the latest from the campaign trail. reporter: that's right. tonight new poll numbers show a , race that's getting tighter. proof the candidates can take nothing for granted. with campaign 2016 entering the home stretch, a new cnn orc poll shows a dead heat between democrat hillary clinton and republican donald trump. the survey, which was conducted by phone between september 1 and fourth, finds trump leading plenty -- sent in by a few percentage points. it is a significant tightening from the seven-point lead clinton held after the

surveys released in august, which show a shrinking margin between the two candidates. clinton, in must win florida tuesday. on the way, she joked with the press corps on her plane that she can't take your doctor's advice after monday's coughing fit. ,>> better. now the advice of course is don't cough. that's not going to work. reporter: trump in tuesday, was optimistic about his chances against clinton. >> i think we will get a lot of the bernie p bro that people. a lot of them are coming with us, because the one thing he was right about is the fact that our country is being ripped off like never before on trade deals. reporter: just over two months left to go, both candidates have plenty of work to do. the cnn orc poll also shows the majority have unfavorable views of both clinton and trump.

away now. life tonight at 7:00, we are checking the state of the races, at 7:00. ed: family and friends are gathering in hampshire this evening to remember a little girl who died in a horseback riding accident at the lancaster fair. 4-year-old mackennah mae caulder was thrown from a horse while participating in an equestrian show over the holiday weekend. that's the same fair where a vermont man and his 6-year-old daughter were killed in a circus tent accident the year before. heather: police in connecticut make a marijuana bust at a day care center. west haven police found about 600 marijuana plants growing in the backyard of the center, which is licensed. they were alerted by state child care inspectors, who were denied access behind the tall wooden fence that housed the plants. the facility was shut down. ed: former fox news anchor gretchen carlson has settled her

but the latest study from the international agency for research on cancer reaffirms that obesity is linked to numerous types of cancers. the agency's first study on obesity was conducted back in 2002 and the research found that people with excess body fat were at a higher risk for certain cancers like colon, kidney and postmenopausal breast cancer. fast forward to 2016, and results from their reassessment only add to the list liver, gallbladder, pancreas, ovarian and thyroid cancers just to name a few. the lead author of the said he believes the link lies in excess body fat triggering chronic inflammation, which can lead to cancer. the head of the nutrition program for the american institute for cancer research says two simple things can help reduce cancer risks eating -- risks. eating healthier and exercising.
