well the expressway. trains, all lines starting on time. >> thank you. breaking overnight, gunfire erupting outside a pub sending people scrambling. >> let's get to the eyeopener's antoinette antonio. she is live on the scene in worcester with what we know right now. antoinette: emily, worcester police detectives left the scene 30 minutes ago. witnesses describe a very frightening event that happened out here, and we know two people are suffering from gunshot overnight. you can see police out here collecting evidence outside gallagher's pub on west boylston street. two people tell the "telegram" they were walking when they heard gunfire. they took off running. one of their friends said he'd been shot in the leg. another person was also shot. but it's unclear how badly he was injured. police roped off the area and two ambulances left the scene. all of this happening around

information on the victims' conditions. also at this point, no word on any suspects, any leads, or any motives for this shooting. we're live in worcester this morning, antoinette antonio, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> antoinette, thank you. also breaking, north korea confirmed it has conducted a nuclear warhead explosion. the country says it's an effort to counter u.s. hostility. the test triggered a 5.0 magnitude earthquake, nuclear test explosion. >> right now, three members of the massachusetts state police are suspended without pay with an investigation underway. the department says the three work in the armory of the state police and the investigation is focused on the transfer of surplus weapons to a vendor. the attorney general is also looking into this case. >> right now, the boston police department is awaiting a ruling

by the city's largest police union. john atwater is outside the courthouse where that decision is expected today, john. john: we're expected that decision in a few hours. we should learn if the pilot program starts on monday. if program has been delayed because of concerns coming from the union. the patrolman's union is fighting the plan that would force 100 officers to wear those cameras. just yesterday, the department announced that eight department leaders, ilu superintendent and chief william gross will wear them. they are not part of the union. >> a big statement that they're making. they're out with the public a lot, interacting with the community, and i think it's putting a stake in the ground. we're committed to the program. >> this became an issue because no officers volunteered to wear those cameras. the commissioner wants to assign the cameras to officers. again, the judge makes the final call in just a few hours.

>> right now, a disturbing mystery in the city of boston in one neighborhood. birds, more than 40 of them, falling from the sky. this morning, there is concern those animals may not be the only ones in danger. the deadly discovery was made yesterday along bakersfield street in dorchester. at least 46 birds fell onto sidewalks and on to lawns and nearly 40 of them dead. birds all grackles. they're not the only animals to fall ct to be euthanized. >> we don't know what's going on. could it be a virus they got quickly? could it be an intentional poisoning? could it be something that was introduced to them that was unintentional but harmed them? >> testing on the birds and cat is underway. boston's public health commission says that there is no threat to humans this morning. however, it will continue to monitor this situation. right now, a man is in custody after his alleged erratic

airways plane to land in boston. the 777 reaching out to air traffic control, the pilot did, at logan international on their way to orlando from london. >> he is intoxicated at the moment. we do not have him restrained, but his behavior is highly unpredictable. we have two crew members currently. >> this morning, the 24-year-old man from scotland is on his way back to the u.k. prosecution is a possibility for him. the pilot says that he was being and the man was met by massachusetts state police and u.s. customs agents. and during all of this, the pilot never declared an emergency. >> commitment 2016. two state lawmakers will be out after primary losses. tim toomey lost his seat to mike connolly. in lawrence, marcos devers is out by political newcomer juana

73 in boston. most of the temperatures in the 70's. try to find 60's, you have to go to nantucket. that's the only spot i'm seeing in the upper 60's. in boston, 73 degrees. you get up to 70 dew point, it is muggy this morning. yesterday, it was in the oppressive range. it's there right now. later on today, it should drop off to the uncomfortable range and eventually getting down to a ic weekend. it's a little bit better, but not much. let's talk about the showers. a lot of gray skies sitting out there, a few sprinkles. some sunshine this afternoon. notice how we still keep a lot of unsettled weather around. could be a scattered showers down on the south coastal areas. today, it's morning clouds turning sunny but muggy. tonight, under partly cloudy skies, could be an isolated shower. 62 to 68 degrees. let's show you what's going to happen over the next seven days. the best chance of showers for saturday and sunday.

saturday looks like we've got a few showers, one batch early in the morning, another batch late in the evening. the late evening one will be more in the eastern part of the state. that threat will linger over into sunday morning when there could be a rumble of thunder before clearing off. once it clears off, the sunshine is with it. humidity is very comfortable. temperatures upper 70's, 80's. and another cold front on wednesday which could give us another chance of showers. it will feel like fall by the end of the week. >> let's get into it. everybody's back to school. it's fall, basically. all right. the roadways looking pretty good. here's a live shot of the expressway. you can see volume picking up on the northbound lanes. no heavy delays. it's early. we'll give it 15 more minutes. then it will really start to pick up. overall, not too bad if you're just heading out the door right now. let's go to the maps farther south. on route 3 northbound, looking pretty good so far coming out of ha hanover stretch. take you only 10 minutes right

no troubles yet on 24, 95, 93 northbound looking good so far. no troubles out to the west. looking good up to the north. if you're taking the trains this morning, so far all lines are running on time. emily? >> all right. thanks. a successful rescue in italy after several people spent the night dangling in a cable car in the french alps. the car stopped working yesterday after two lines crossed. helicopters flew in to rescue people down safely in unstuck cars. but it became too dangerous to fly, so 33 people spent the night in the cars and were pulled out this morning. a new warning from the faa centered around the battery of the samsung galaxy note 7. samsung recalled that phone a week ago after dozens of instances of note 7's catching fire or exploding. airline passengers are asked not to turn on or charge the phones on planes or check them into their bags.

galaxy note 7 started the fire that destroyed his jeep. he says he left the phone charging and a few minutes later found his car in flames. >> your economy, wells fargo has been slapped with a $185 million fine for widespread illegal practices. federal regulators say the bank opened millions of accounts without customers' knowledge. in order to meet aggressive sales goals and more than 5300 employees have been fired because of the wells fargo has neither admitted nor denied the allegations but has agreed to pay that fine. air bnb apologizing for its slow response to accusations of racism. several people of color complained that they were denied vacation requests because of availability, but would then see the same dates advertised later. air bnb says it is adjusting its policy so that dates that are denied are automatically blocked

eyeopener. >> just about 5:30 on this friday morning as we take a live look at the mass pike. loots pretty good at this point. good morning. >> i'll do it for the fun of it. >> i'm emily riemer. >> i'm randy price. kevin in for olessa this morning. emily's outnumbered this morning. >> i'm not sure what's going on. and muggy. really kind of cut the air with a knife. it's really thick. it's going to get better as we head over the weekend. the humidity will be dropping off a little bit. we have the chance of showers this weekend. not very organized. this morning, we're seeing hit or miss scattered sprinkles more than anything else. there is a cold front coming in from the west. this is going to slowly slip through this afternoon. but it's coming through in such a weakened form, i think all we're going to see this

that's because earlier this week he gave brand-new sneakers to this homeless man. the man was hesitant at first, but after a few minutes, he was grateful for the gift. he says that he's just trying to do the right thing by making a difference in the world. rivals on the football field teaming up for one special cause. the auburn and the leicester football teams were honoring fallen officer ron tarentino. a special surprise. >> trish and two of her boys were at midfield as the honorary captain was announced. it was ron tarentino iii on quick leave from the army. last night's event marked the top cop game honoring the slain officer. tarentino was shot to death during a traffic stop in may. his wife says she is overwhelmed by the support from the two towns her husband served. >> we just loved your letters

head towards later in the day, at least partly sunny sky. there is a little bit more rain associated with this front. see where it's going? down to the south. when i talk about the chances for rain this weekend, it's not everyone. here are the temperatures right now. we're starting out warm. not only warm, but muggy. it feels like summer, and today we may hit the 90? mark once again. that should be it for 90's for a while. cooler temperatures to talk about. a few scattered showers on saturday and sunday. let me break it down what's going to happen. we have a few scattered sprinkles. tonight, we have a few scattered showers. these are primarily down to the south. i don't think most of us will see anything out of it. then we head for your saturday. a few scattered showers in the morning. a lot of gray skies. there'll be a hint of some sunshine. late in the day, another chance of seeing scattered showers. but again, the nature of these is such that not everyone's going to be receiving any rain out of this.

his remains were discovered in march. if convicted, both suspects could get the death penalty. suspect is dead another student hurt. the 14-year-old shooter turned the gun on herself yesterday after shooting another girl inside her high school in alpine, texas. law enforcement was delayed by unrelated threats called in after the shooting. the injured student is expected to be okay. >> nearly two dozenin death of a muslim recruit. an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old michigan man found indications that he was physically abused. the death was initially called a suicide, but marine officials say the alleged assault was likely what led to the marine jumping over a wall and falling to his death. >> u.s. defense leaders say that a rescue mission to retrieve the two kidnapped men was launched in afghanistan but hostages were
