the dow plunged 394 points to close just over 18,000. the nasdaq lost 133. the s&p fell 53. ed: right now, the headmaster of a prestigious prep school is facing charges. heather: he's accused of making a deal to have sex with an undercover detective for money. we give the story from newscenter 5's juli mcdonald in braintree. juli: students from all over the world have wrapped up the first week of classeat braintree. investigators had been in contact with the 46-year-old braintree headmaster for weeks. they met in a mcdonald's parking lot. he would pay $200 in exchange for sex. still no statement from academy leaders about whether these charges will affect was's position.

five investigates with new information on what led to three state troopers being suspended without pay. the attorney general's office is now investigating as well. karen anderson joins us with more. karen: heather and ed, we've learned a state police lieutenant and two troopers were suspended over an investigation . state police suspended them as part of investigation looking into the transfer of police guns to an outside vendor. 5 investigates has learned they are looking into poor record-keeping, poor inventory control, and the transfer of guns to western massachusetts. it was referred by state police, but they declined to comment further on the case. karen anderson, 5 investigates.

investigating a deadly shooting near a city bar. police were called to gallagher's pub on west boylston street around 11:30 last night. they found a 21-year-old man shot several times in the leg, abdomen and neck. police say the shooting actually happened on nearby loring street. the victim was taken to the hospital where he died. a second man was shot in the leg . he is expected to survive. a registered sex offender from new hampshire is accused of exposing himself to children here in massachusetts. 30-year-old jacob mobley-hall arrested yesterday near lexin path. police say there have been several reports of this happening this week. the manchester man faces several counts of open and gross lewdness. ed: take a look at this. boston police making a bust in mattapan. officers executed a search warrant as part of an active and ongoing investigation.

out on bail for the past year, sean ellis relishes every day as a free man. ellis claiming he was framed for the 1993 murder of boston police detective john mulligan, shot 5 times in the face while he slept in his truck during a paid detail outside a roslindale walgreens. ellis's attorney says many others had good reason to hurt mulligan. >> because of his drug dealing, because he was ripping dealers in the area, because there were people who understood he was part of that drug ripoff scheme. jorge: members of a boston police homicide unit, who investigated ellis, later pleaded guilty to corruption. 19-years-old at the time, ellis was talking to detectives about the murder of a cousin, when he volunteered he was at the walgreens the night of mulligan's murder. it took 3 trials to get a conviction.

difference tonight is slightly drier air builds down from the north. the temperature drops only 70 degrees. tomorrow, not nearly as hot as today. i can't rule out a spot shower. keep that in mind if you are headed to the beach. generally in the 70's. more clouds than sun. a couple spotty showers are possible with the breeze off the ocean and shifting to the later in the day. the uv index moderate. there could be some tossups. the wind not too strong. there is a low tide around lunchtime for tomorrow. i mentioned slightly drier air tonight. as the more humid air tries to return tomorrow, the clouds and showers may be able to move in. there is going to be a cold front tossing the region sunday.
