50s on the south shore. some in the lower 60s in the cape. where the winds are stronger, we're getting gusts over 20 miles per hour. the skies have cleared out in the wake of the frontal boundary. so the cool air is settling in. there are a lot of 40s to our north. by 8:00 a.m. we are back up to 60s, lower 70s lower inland. let's check out the roads. >> so far, a pike, eastbound to the top of the screen. let's go to the map. as you travel into boston, construction clearing 93 southbound by the pike and on the expressway north by mass

construction in the final stages expressway northbound. south of town, no problems on 128. the pike is quiet. one last construction zone by highland avenue should be clearing shortly. north of town you're good to go. >> police are investigating a serious motorcycle accident in woburn around 11:00 last night. this is salem street. we're told the operator was hurt. the passenger on the motorcycle is expected to be ok. right now, a search missing swimmer. rescuers combed a pond in plymouth. >> the swimmer jumped into herring pond about 4:00 yesterday afternoon and never resurfaced. plymouth police say the man and two others were in a boat in the middle of the pond. the boat was not anchored and it drifted away. one swimmer made it back to the

jackets to the other. >> it was over 100-foot where they are. it's the murky down below, very hard for visibility down there. that's why they are having difficulty finding the person. >> rescue teams from plymouth, bourne, and barnstable searched the water until the sun went down. overnight, at least six people are confirmed dead, another 100 hurt after two trains passenger train and freight train. it happened early this morning. authorities believe the passenger train engineer was negligent and caused that accident. >> right now a dollar tree employee is under arrest, accused of taking photos up a woman's skirt at the malden store. the victim says she caught the employee using his phone to take inappropriate photos. >> stories we're following right

a man in beverly during an attempted robbery. police say it happened on livingston avenue after the teen allegedly burst into a home last night. a 25-year-old man suffered several stab wounds, but his condition is not clear this morning. that teen's identity has not been released because he is a juvenile. >> police hope these images will help them track down a suspected murderer. you can see the tattoos here, a delarosa. he also has one on the inside of his arm that says "wanda." emilio delarosa is accused of killing wanda rosa on monday. the two had a child together. according to court documents, the 4-year-old witnessed attack and told police that his mom was dead. cash, weapons, and drugs all missing from the braintree police evidence room. and erika is here with the story this morning. erika?

because of the missing evidence. the audit goes back to 1999. it found sexual assault kits stored in a trailer out back and heat-sealed evidence bags ripped open or cut. mayor joseph sullivan yesterday called the findings deeply troubling and unacceptable. >> we have asked the attorney general's office to assist us in review of this matter. >> the evidence room trouble allowed this man to go police arrested him again for drugs, but the drug charges are now dropped. police have found some of the missing evidence, including two guns found at officer susan zopatti's home. she ran the room for three years before committing suicide when this audit began. the department now has new protocols and procedures. the chief put new officers in charge of the evidence room and there's training next month. >> commitment 2016.

a new hampshire community is coming together to offer relief during the drought we're experiencing. the kingston fire department now open for use for anyone who has seen their well run dry. a hair salon is offering a hair wash for anyone dealing with no water. >> today the drought monitor comes out again. >> every thursday. think back over the past week, haven't had a lot of rain. may be getting worse. it's have the extreme drought, covering a lot of new hampshire and southeastern massachusetts. we had a couple of downpours yesterday and some of those thunderstorms did have stronger winds. this picture, tree branches and limbs came down. they were hit or miss. we didn't have a drop of rain at my house. unfortunately, probably a lot of you in the same boat. it was hot yesterday. we hit 90 degrees, second time

the 90-degree mark in boston 22 times. average is 14. that's the most we've done it since back in 2010. so it has been a hot summer, and we're still seeing at least some heat so far into september. but a different feel today than what yesterday was about. you see the 40s to the north and this cool, dry canadian air is settling in now with high pressure and a wind out of the north-northeast. today is going to be a sun-filled day but a the winds are still supervise. 10, 15 miles per hour on the cape and the island. temperatures here milder than elsewhere. lower 60s for you. you head to the south shore and into tauton, 54 degrees. 48 in norwood. up in beverly it's 50. 40s through northern worcester county. cooler start out the day. you may want a jacket. sunshine will be with us

north to northeast. so it is cooler at the coastline than it will be inland. i think we hold in the 60s at the coast. lower 70s farther inland. so a little bit below average. after 90 yesterday, a different feel today. a couple of clouds may try to come in off the ocean in southeastern massachusetts this morning. otherwise, nothing but sunshine and clear skies this evening. mainly clear into the overnight hours as well. if you're headed to fenway this evening, the yankees are coming into town. it's first pitch 64. you may want a jacket for that game. overnight temperatures tonight in the low 40s for a lot of us. 50s for boston. high pressure will drift eastward, temperatures tomorrow mid-to-low 70s. so warmer tomorrow. traffic is quite active. we'll take a closer look at that coming up. gets warmer on saturday, lower
