of an inch. not a lot, but we need it. the showers have moved south. we're left with a few sprinkles over the cape and islands right now and a bit of cloud cover out there. you see to the north skies are clearing away. but much cooler air is starting to flow in and that's why you're going to feel a little more like fall today. last few days we've had temperatures in the 80's, upper 80's. now we're going to say hello to the 60's and 70's, which is where we're supposed to be this time of year. here's the map at 00 again, mostly sunny skies. we head through the day today, i do want to point out the fact that it is going to be clear overnight tonight and it's going to be chilly. there are, in fact, frost advisories for the western part of the state. we'll talk more about that as well as the sunshine and how long the cool air hangs around. all of that coming up in just a few moments. >> male ran into the women's macy with a long rifle. we're getting multiple calls. shayna: following breaking news from washington state.

people dead and a fifth person in critical condition this morning. doug: right now, police are searching for the gunman on the run this morning. the shooting breaking out at a mall north of seattle last night. this was the scene as first responders descended upon that mall. police say the victims, four women and a man, were shot in the makeup department of a macy's store. the mall was quickly evacuated and a command center was set up. a manhunt is underway this morning. police say he is the only suspect right now. they say he used what they're calling a long gun but didn't specify the caliber. witnesses describe a frantic scene. >> it was more like a shot and two seconds later another shot. so crazy. crazy. doug: police say a motive for that shooting is unclear at this hour. the f.b.i. has been called in to assist in that investigation. shayna: right now chelsea police searching for a suspect after two students are stabbed near

as newscenter 5's john atwater reports, they're in the hospital with serious injuries. john: a police presence at the chelsea high school football game just hours after two students were attacked about a block from the school. >> young kids are involved, and our youth is, like, involved in these type of things. but it's scary. john: police say the two students were rushed to the hospital with serious stab wounds after a fight erupted near these train tracks on everett avenue. students who stayed after school say took precautions. >> my principal came on the speaker saying we were on a lockdown. everyone stay put. >> they made an announcement. make sure you lock all the doors. john: police say the suspect ran off, but they think he knew the boys he attacked and they're not ruling out the possibility others were involved. parents say they often worry about their kids' safety. >> he always feel like he needs to be aware of his surroundings and what's going on, and safety's number one.

the violent crime, hoping police can quickly find those responsible. >> we don't know who these people are, but, you know, our prayers go out to them and their families. john: police are interviewing the victims trying to track down the suspect. the victims are suspected to survive. john atwater, wcvb, newscenter 5. shayna: right now, police are searching for the man who indecently assaulted a man in jamaica pond. the victim friend along jamaica pond when a man approached her. the suspect ran away after the assault. police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call. doug: a belmont man is accused of driving drunk when he hit a detail officer working in lexington. sean mckeown told police he was leaving work as a bar tender in downtown lexington when he felt his jeep hit something. that something was detail officer frank san severino.

broken ankle. he admitted he'd been drinking before he left work. sky 5 over the taunton municipal lighting plant where one person was hurt. that was an explosion on friday. a fire in a switch unit inside a large circuit breaker caused that blast. the extent of the victims' injuries is unclear this morning. shayna: time now for 5 on the opioid crisis. a big spike in overdoses in quincy. 19 just in the last week. three of them fatal. spike in the last several years. at a quincy treatment facility, phones are ringing off the fook of the nearly 200 beds at solutions group, only seven are left. >> this is disturbing to us. we try and link the people together as our common link between the individual, some common denominator. we haven't found that in this rash. shayna: police and recovery experts say there is no single cause for the increase, but one number has been growing thanks

doug: mary, thank you. police in stoughton looking for the alleged gunman who shot a teenager inside a cvs pharmacy. that suspect considered armed and dangerous. an arrest warrant has been issued for this man. 23-year-old marcus pierre-louis is the man responsible. an 18-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. since then, a 15- and 16-year-old were arrested in connection with that shooting. >> we know a couple of the teens people are talking about it, and we know -- we know the kid that got shot and, like, we're really sad about that. doug: no one else was injured inside the store. police say the motive is unclear right now but do say this was not a random act. shayna: 5 investigates with new exclusive information on a story they broke. were red flags missed involving the officer in charge of the braintree police evidence room

here's 5 investigates' kathy curran. reporter: she joined the police department in 1995. she worked patrol until becoming the evidence officer in 2013. a recent audit of the department focused on the years that she was in charge of the evidence room and found missing cash, guns, and drugs. that tainted and missing evidence has already led to criminal charges being dropped against dozens of alleged drug deal >> obviously, someone compromised that evidence. she was in charge of the evidence locker at that time. reporter: retired state police major bruce gordon performed the audit. she took her own life within a week of meeting with him. the events that have unfolded here have led many to question if there were any warning signs missed. sources tell us members of the department had suggested that there were problems with the evidence, that zapati was

we have a lot of 50's showing up. no real big area of 40's or 30's. we will be having that in the forecast by tomorrow morning and certainly on monday morning. monday morning can be the coldest of the cold. you'll see the temperatures, as i mentioned, pretty much into the upper 50's. i mentioned the cold. it's coming in from the north. there are freeze warnings way up to the north. there are frost advisories for the western part of the state. this is for later tonight through early tomorrow morning. we'll be seeing more of these issues as we talk about sunday niin closer. how warm will it get today? not very. you know, just upper 60's, a few spots may get close to that 70-degree mark. even chillier tomorrow. those morning lows on monday morning, even in the city, about 41 degrees in worcester. i think in the suburbs, we're going to be seeing some spots in the upper 30's. high temperatures along the south shore, new bedford may head 70.

for the cape, plenty of sunshine. high temperatures into the mid 60's. cooler air is settling in as high pressure is with us. our really next rainmaker doesn't show up until tuesday's forecast. we've got that scattered frost that's going to be out there with clear skies going on. quick check on the tropics. a couple of systems. lisa which will do nothing. karl is very close to bermuda. the center is out here. there are actually hurricane watches up for the island of bermuda. it looks like it's going to remain as a tropical syst the next 48 hours as it heads to the north atlantic and falls apart. interest in bermuda is some gusty wind right down there right now and some rain going on, but looks like most of the force of that storm will be heading offshore. as far as lisa's concerned, just going to fall apart after the next 48 hours. as we look inshore today, we're dealing with sunshine and about 68 degrees. even cooler tomorrow, about 64 degrees. real feel of fall out there. love this time of year. monday, 68 degrees, patchy frost

a chance of some showers in here on tuesday and wednesday. boy, i wish we could see this every other day, the chance of showers. it looks like a good rain chance on tuesday. may linger into wednesday before it clears away and we finish off the week with more sunshine and temperatures in the 70's. say goodbye to the 80's. it looks like we're stuck in the 70's for this forecast. shayna: we went from the 80's yesterday to the 60's today. that's -- it's coming. time now is 5:48. a look at some of the stories happeninri doug: a funeral has been set for the oklahoma man shot and killed by a police officer. funeral services for terence crutcher will be held this afternoon. a private wake is planned. he was killed last week by a tulsa officer. that officer, betty shelby, she faces a manslaughter charge in the killing of crutcher, who was unarmed at the time of that shooting. >> 14 students and a driver are in a texas hospital after their school bus flipped over and landed in a ditch friday

houston. police say the driver apparently swerved to avoid a stalled vehicle in the road and lost control. none of the injuries thought to be serious. doug: the biggest heroin bust in new york city's hisry has broken up a drug ring that stretched from mexico to massachusetts the heroin had deadly additives including fentanyl and roach killer. heroin was confiscated worth $13 million on the police. leominster police department helped break up that heroin ring. shayna: an army veteran is northborough is speaking out. for the second time in two months, someone has trespassed on his property stealing american flags off his fence. wcvb's nichole berlie shows us
