of an inch. not a lot, but we need it. the showers have moved south. we're left with a few sprinkles over the cape and islands right now and a bit of cloud cover out there. you see to the north skies are clearing away. but much cooler air is starting to flow in and that's why you're going to feel a little more like fall today. last few days we've had temperatures in the 80's, upper 80's. now we're going to say hello to the 60's and 70's, which is where we're supposed to be this time of year. here's the map at 00 again, mostly sunny skies. we head through the day today, i do want to point out the fact that it is going to be clear overnight tonight and it's going to be chilly. there are, in fact, frost advisories for the western part of the state. we'll talk more about that as well as the sunshine and how long the cool air hangs around. all of that coming up in just a few moments. >> male ran into the women's macy with a long rifle. we're getting multiple calls. shayna: following breaking news from washington state.

people dead and a fifth person in critical condition this morning. doug: right now, police are searching for the gunman on the run this morning. the shooting breaking out at a mall north of seattle last night. this was the scene as first responders descended upon that mall. police say the victims, four women and a man, were shot in the makeup department of a macy's store. the mall was quickly evacuated and a command center was set up. a manhunt is underway this morning. police say he is the only suspect right now. they say he used what they're calling a long gun but didn't specify the caliber. witnesses describe a frantic scene. >> it was more like a shot and two seconds later another shot. so crazy. crazy. doug: police say a motive for that shooting is unclear at this hour. the f.b.i. has been called in to assist in that investigation. shayna: right now chelsea police searching for a suspect after two students are stabbed near

as newscenter 5's john atwater reports, they're in the hospital with serious injuries. john: a police presence at the chelsea high school football game just hours after two students were attacked about a block from the school. >> young kids are involved, and our youth is, like, involved in these type of things. but it's scary. john: police say the two students were rushed to the hospital with serious stab wounds after a fight erupted near these train tracks on everett avenue. students who stayed after school say took precautions. >> my principal came on the speaker saying we were on a lockdown. everyone stay put. >> they made an announcement. make sure you lock all the doors. john: police say the suspect ran off, but they think he knew the boys he attacked and they're not ruling out the possibility others were involved. parents say they often worry about their kids' safety. >> he always feel like he needs to be aware of his surroundings and what's going on, and safety's number one.

the violent crime, hoping police can quickly find those responsible. >> we don't know who these people are, but, you know, our prayers go out to them and their families. john: police are interviewing the victims trying to track down the suspect. the victims are suspected to survive. john atwater, wcvb, newscenter 5. shayna: right now, police are searching for the man who indecently assaulted a man in jamaica pond. the victim friend along jamaica pond when a man approached her. the suspect ran away after the assault. police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call. doug: a belmont man is accused of driving drunk when he hit a detail officer working in lexington. sean mckeown told police he was leaving work as a bar tender in downtown lexington when he felt his jeep hit something. that something was detail officer frank san severino.

broken ankle. he admitted he'd been drinking before he left work. sky 5 over the taunton municipal lighting plant where one person was hurt. that was an explosion on friday. a fire in a switch unit inside a large circuit breaker caused that blast. the extent of the victims' injuries is unclear this morning. shayna: time now for 5 on the opioid crisis. a big spike in overdoses in quincy. 19 just in the last week. three of them fatal. spike in the last several years. at a quincy treatment facility, phones are ringing off the fook of the nearly 200 beds at solutions group, only seven are left. >> this is disturbing to us. we try and link the people together as our common link between the individual, some common denominator. we haven't found that in this rash. shayna: police and recovery experts say there is no single cause for the increase, but one number has been growing thanks

significantly since the introduction of narcan. doug: two new cases of west nile virus have been diagnosed in massachusetts. that brings the state total to five cases this year. the most recent cases were confirmed on friday. a woman in norfolk county and a man from middle sex county both receiving medical treatment. several communities are considered what they are calling high risk for nile. no deaths have been reported this year. shaynaee killed in a crash. 19-year-old haley sanford was involved in a crash on 495 in raynham saturday night. she just transferred but made an immediate impact. >> she was not only an amazing cheerleader. she was an amazing human being. and she really was able to just -- her personality, she was

this morning, yahoo is being sued for negligence. the company says the hack happened in 2014 but wasn't discovered until weeks ago. russian hackers are accused of breaching the democratic national convention earlier this year. we're learning about a hack of the first lady. the white house says that the hackers broke into the email of a staffer responsible for scheduling official trips. shayna: the royal family also the a hacker is reportedly trying to sell photos that were stolen from pippa middleton's i-cloud account. the stolen photos include pictures of middleton and her fiance as well as the niece and nephew. trying to sell the pictures for at least $65,000. caught on camera, the world's largest passenger plane rocking violently on its approach to the

flooded. heavy equipment nearly submerged after a dam broke. state officials say floodwaters have surpassed levels reached back in 2010 and the le sueur river continues to rise. shayna: president obama has vetoed a law that would have allowed the families of september 11 victims to sue saudi arabia. that could set up an override battle in congress. the house and senate both passed the legislation on voice votes. the president says the bill would open t countries to start suing the u.s. over policies they don't like. doug: a judge has approved the settlement with curt schilling and the state of rhode island. schilling and three other officials agreed to the $2.5 million settlement to be paid by the company's insurance. a $75 million deal brought the gaming company to the state. rhode island has recovered $45 million. >> now here's josh brogadir with

mike: good morning. a little cooler than it's been lately. temperatures pretty much into the 50's in most spots and a little bit of break in the cloud cover out there. but still a lot of clouds left over from last night because of the showers. the showers are widening down. sunshine is going to be moving in this afternoon. you would think with the sunshine we'd get did yesterday, up into the lower 80's. nope. today it's the upper 60's, maybe the lower 60's. some places the temperature just is not going to budge much through the afternoon. how does it look the next seven days? lots of sunshine but not a lot of warmth. 68, 64, 68. possibly monday morning, a little patchy frost close to the city but not into the city. in fact, if you're worried about frost or freezing temperatures are for boston, we don't typically get freezing temperatures until november 7.

[gunshots] >> did you shoot it? reporter: scott documents it all on her cell phone. her husband, now motionless on the ground. >> these are the police officers that shot my husband and he better live. reporter: just minutes earlier, keith scott was sitting in a parking lot waiting for his son's school bus when officers in the neighborhood arrived to serve a search warrant on someone else. family have called on the police to release body cam and dashcam video of the shooting. >> if i were to put it out indiscriminantly, it can inflame the situation. reporter: the police department says scott was armed and this image taken after the shooting shows the gun they recovered. hillary clinton has canceled a trip at the mayor's request. clinton has called for police to

doug: mary, thank you. police in stoughton looking for the alleged gunman who shot a teenager inside a cvs pharmacy. that suspect considered armed and dangerous. an arrest warrant has been issued for this man. 23-year-old marcus pierre-louis is the man responsible. an 18-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. since then, a 15- and 16-year-old were arrested in connection with that shooting. >> we know a couple of the teens people are talking about it, and we know -- we know the kid that got shot and, like, we're really sad about that. doug: no one else was injured inside the store. police say the motive is unclear right now but do say this was not a random act. shayna: 5 investigates with new exclusive information on a story they broke. were red flags missed involving the officer in charge of the braintree police evidence room

here's 5 investigates' kathy curran. reporter: she joined the police department in 1995. she worked patrol until becoming the evidence officer in 2013. a recent audit of the department focused on the years that she was in charge of the evidence room and found missing cash, guns, and drugs. that tainted and missing evidence has already led to criminal charges being dropped against dozens of alleged drug deal >> obviously, someone compromised that evidence. she was in charge of the evidence locker at that time. reporter: retired state police major bruce gordon performed the audit. she took her own life within a week of meeting with him. the events that have unfolded here have led many to question if there were any warning signs missed. sources tell us members of the department had suggested that there were problems with the evidence, that zapati was

according to documents obtained by 5 investigates, her department record was clean. in a contentious 1998 divorce, her now ex-husband accused her of taking drugs and drinking alcohol, a claim she said was fabricated and distorted. in 2012, zapati was questioned about smoking on the job, which is against department policy and state law, but no action was taken. from the start, mayor joe sullivan w apparent lack of oversight at braintree p.d. >> we have some real concerns about what's happened here. reporter: the chief has announced his retirement effective in two weeks. the attorney general is investigating, and sources tell us more changes within the department may be on the way. kathy curran, 5 investigates. shayna: a local plastic surgeon has resigned his license after

we have a lot of 50's showing up. no real big area of 40's or 30's. we will be having that in the forecast by tomorrow morning and certainly on monday morning. monday morning can be the coldest of the cold. you'll see the temperatures, as i mentioned, pretty much into the upper 50's. i mentioned the cold. it's coming in from the north. there are freeze warnings way up to the north. there are frost advisories for the western part of the state. this is for later tonight through early tomorrow morning. we'll be seeing more of these issues as we talk about sunday niin closer. how warm will it get today? not very. you know, just upper 60's, a few spots may get close to that 70-degree mark. even chillier tomorrow. those morning lows on monday morning, even in the city, about 41 degrees in worcester. i think in the suburbs, we're going to be seeing some spots in the upper 30's. high temperatures along the south shore, new bedford may head 70.

for the cape, plenty of sunshine. high temperatures into the mid 60's. cooler air is settling in as high pressure is with us. our really next rainmaker doesn't show up until tuesday's forecast. we've got that scattered frost that's going to be out there with clear skies going on. quick check on the tropics. a couple of systems. lisa which will do nothing. karl is very close to bermuda. the center is out here. there are actually hurricane watches up for the island of bermuda. it looks like it's going to remain as a tropical syst the next 48 hours as it heads to the north atlantic and falls apart. interest in bermuda is some gusty wind right down there right now and some rain going on, but looks like most of the force of that storm will be heading offshore. as far as lisa's concerned, just going to fall apart after the next 48 hours. as we look inshore today, we're dealing with sunshine and about 68 degrees. even cooler tomorrow, about 64 degrees. real feel of fall out there. love this time of year. monday, 68 degrees, patchy frost

a chance of some showers in here on tuesday and wednesday. boy, i wish we could see this every other day, the chance of showers. it looks like a good rain chance on tuesday. may linger into wednesday before it clears away and we finish off the week with more sunshine and temperatures in the 70's. say goodbye to the 80's. it looks like we're stuck in the 70's for this forecast. shayna: we went from the 80's yesterday to the 60's today. that's -- it's coming. time now is 5:48. a look at some of the stories happeninri doug: a funeral has been set for the oklahoma man shot and killed by a police officer. funeral services for terence crutcher will be held this afternoon. a private wake is planned. he was killed last week by a tulsa officer. that officer, betty shelby, she faces a manslaughter charge in the killing of crutcher, who was unarmed at the time of that shooting. >> 14 students and a driver are in a texas hospital after their school bus flipped over and landed in a ditch friday

houston. police say the driver apparently swerved to avoid a stalled vehicle in the road and lost control. none of the injuries thought to be serious. doug: the biggest heroin bust in new york city's hisry has broken up a drug ring that stretched from mexico to massachusetts the heroin had deadly additives including fentanyl and roach killer. heroin was confiscated worth $13 million on the police. leominster police department helped break up that heroin ring. shayna: an army veteran is northborough is speaking out. for the second time in two months, someone has trespassed on his property stealing american flags off his fence. wcvb's nichole berlie shows us

brings up the point, feeling like fall. what about fall foliage? it doesn't happen until late september. even though you're seeing trees changing color, it's more of the stress from the drought more than anything else. you are going to see more and more of that. i think the colors may be muted. we have a few more weeks to go. as far as this week is concerned, look for some showers. much needed rain on tuesday and wednesday. should be clearing off at we head toward the end of the week. doug: there's always filters, mike, if you're taking photographs. you can make them look brighter than they are. some good news this morning about the manatee rescued on the cape this week. shayna: he is doing just great at the mystic aquarium in connecticut. the manatee is warming up and eating well. the manatee was rescued thursday after over a month of swimming in cape waters. animal welfare groups were concerned about the manatee's health as the water on the cape continued to cool. the manatee is expected to be flown to florida for longer
