ambulances rushed to the scene but it's too late. the child is pronounced dead right there. a catholic priest arrives to offer comfort to the family, friends and neighbors. investigators document every piece of the scene and remove the minivan after a freak accident that, by all accounts was just that, a tragic accident area at the das office at this point not releasing the entities -- the identities of the five-year-old boy or the driver. legend arnold palmer is dead at the age of 87. his company says palmer died from heart complications. he'd been admitted to the hospital thursday. palmer's nickname was the king, and his loyal fans were called arnie's army. he won the masters tournament four times, and the british open twice. palmer leaves behind his wife, two daughters, six grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. there's more breaking news we're following tonight a boater found

22-year-old nathan carman drifting at sea today on an inflatable life raft. carman and his mother, linda, were reported missing last sunday when they didn't come back from a fishing trip off the coast of rhode island. the coast guard searched roughly 60,000 square miles for the pair, suspending their efforts on friday. the coast guard says nathan doesn't have any life-threatening injuries. no updates right now on where linda carman is. nichole: investigation is underway into an officer-involved shooting in weymouth. police say they shot a woman who refused to drop a knife. notes,wipe newscenter 5's diane cho is live in weymouth with what we know tonight. diane: police say this all started with a frantic 911 call this morning after a mother told them her daughter was trying to kill herself with a knife. lots of screaming going on she still has the knife

up to the home here off king avenue he was confronted by a hysterical woman armed with a large knife. shots fired shots fired police say the officer was forced to back away towards the street and the suspect followed him, ignoring his orders to drop the knife. that's when they say the officer shot her. >> i saw her laying on the ground she had an oxygen mask on and you could see the blood on her shirt. this woman who did not want to be identified says she's known the woman for years and spoke to her a couple of hours before the shooting took place. diane: she says the 46-year-old woman who was shot has had a history with depression and while she didn't see it all unfolding she heard the shot ring out. there's a chance for frost in -- nichole: it's a chilly night in

are hunting for a driver, who hit and killed a pedestrian and took off. investigators say 41-year-old alberto santos flores of somerville was hit along route 16 in medford this morning. he was pronounced dead at mass general. police have not released a description of the driver nor the vehicle involved. reid: a day of mourning for major league baseball following the death of miami marlins pitcher jose fernandez. he and two friends were killed when their boat smashed into a jetty overnight. david ortiz was a friend of fernandez and you can see, his emotions were visible during a moment of silence before the sox played today. the marlins did not play today choosing to cancel their game. >> it's a tremendous loss. my heart goes out to his family. reid: sheer sadness, palpable in a miami marlins press conference today. the team gathering but not for a game. every member of the team present grieving the loss of pitcher jose fernandez killed early this morning in a boat crash, along with two friends.

the videos do not clearly show if scott was armed. one man is dead and a suspect is behind bars after a shooting at a starbucks in las vegas. reid: investigators say two men were arguing inside the restaurant when one pulled out a gun and opened fire. pronounced dead. police say around a dozen customers were in the starbucks at the time. the suspect left behind a backpack in the restaurant, prompting evacuations of nearby businesses and only adding to the confusion. a bomb squad has since cleared the area. no other injuries were reported. a washington state man, charged in a deadly mall rampage, will appear in court tomorrow. police captured arcan cetin outside his home yesterday, after a nearly 24 hour manhunt. he's accused of shooting five people in a mall north of seattle. cetin had several run-ins with authorities before the attack records show he was involved in more than half a dozen criminal

by tuesday morning, we will be dealing with some showers. overnight, a lot of temperatures away from the city. near the shoreline, it won't be a big issue. around here, we're talking about frosted visors. western middlesex county, outside of 495, wraps around through that area come already we are seeing temperatures in the 30's. temperatures to warm. things are getting frosty. these are the typical days we would see a first frost. i'm not expecting frost in the city tonight. but in the western part of the state, we usually don't sue than to the first weekend of october. and already, we are talking about frost out there tonight. temperatures will range from 34 inland to 38 on the coast.
