for prints. they are asking anyone with information to give them a call. live in lexington, wcvb newscenter 5. >> thank you. 5 investigates learning an appeals board has recommended against the suspension of one of the state's top prescribers of medical marijuana. they say he did not violate the state regulation. 5 investigates reported in may the board of registration temporarily suspended him practitioners examine patients and issue marijuana certificates in his name. in one case the patient was the man charged with hitting and killing trooper thomas clarty in march. the state has two opposing sets of marijuana regulations and one does give authority to nurse practitioners. there is no word on what will happen with the suspension. >> ben: a man convicted in the

sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. sera congi was there when his family delivered powerful impact statements. >> the heart of our family was ripped out. reporter: through tears rebecca prowdy tells a packed courtroom about her brother, the army veteran shot and killed in 2012. >> he truly was the light of our lives. our hearts have per been darker. reporter: he served two tours of duty in afghanistan and was murdered i parking garage. >> he had protected our country and was on his way of protecting us further by becoming a policeman and keeping his community safe. reporter: castillo was convicted of first degree murder last week four years after the crime. he had fled to the dominican republic where he was captured. a judge imposed a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of

accused of killing five people in a washington mall appearing in court today. >> do you understand the charges? >> yes, your honor. reporter: facing five counts of first degree murder. the suspect's parents facing reporters outside of court. >> our son has had mental health issues that we have been trying to work on with him. reporter: according to charges documents the suspect confessed to gunning down four women and one man as they were shopping inside the macy's at the cascade mall an hour outside of seattle on friday night. >> i heard four shots, pop, pop, pop. reporter: she was hoping to identified her son from surveillance images. saturday evening when he was arrested after a near 24-hour manhunt police found him in plain sight near his home. >> he said nothing.

reporter: neighbors said she feared the alleged shooter seen here posing with firearms on his my space. >> we had no interring as when you talked to him he grunted or didn't say anything. reporter: they conducted search warrants on the property looking for more clues authorities are looking for a motive. the suspect's father said he recently had a falling out with his son and the two had an early dinner together the night of the shooting. heather: there is a rise in violent crime. nearly 45,000 more homicides were committed in 2015 than the year before. that amounts to a 4% increase nationally. the fbi says that is lower than the peak levels in the 1990s. in massachusetts the violent crime rate is down by 4%. heather:heavy rains in the

buster on the way? harvey: eventually, but it will take multiple, multiple rain events for that to take place. i did want to breng you up-to-date on where we are at in the tropics. obviously i don't see us getting a tropical storm or hurricane. that's one of the ways these droughts do break. so far that's not in the cards. we are up to matthew if it becomes a tropical storm. there are chances it will develop into a tropical depressin it may affect a portion of the caribbean and the possible tracts it could take. we will see how well developed it is, and either a deep southern track or then may take a loop north late this week. if that happens it could take a track like that. we'll keep an eye on this one as it is likely to develop as we get deeper into this week. in the meantiming for us it is just the high, thin clouds that you are seeing.

yeah it was a chilly start, but they are the ones that will get us. it is not tonight. we are not talking until about 4:00 a.m. it will start to move into the worcester hills. it will last for a good few hours and then slide offshore. when we get to late morning or early afternoon it sends it to the south shore or the keap where it may linger there longer. yeng around toward southeastern mass and the cape is where they could be. then some improvement will come in from the northwest to the southeast, though it may not clear in southeastern mass and the cape. after that it will get more complicated as i will show you in a moment. the temperatures in the 60s around the region now. that's a far cry from the way it was early this morning. over the next 12 hours we will drop to the upper 50s in boston. look at this morning.
