positive. the most tweeted moment when he said his most presidential quality was his temperament. >> breaking news on the eyeopener. boston police investigating an overnight shooting. a deadly shooting in jamaica plain and the eye's doug meehan is on centre street with what we know right now. doug? >> randy, good morning. boston police called here just about 1:00 this morning. when they arrived, they found a man with several gunshot wounds to his torso. we're told that victim is in his 40's. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. centre street just feet away from the jackson square t stop. police are looking for surveillance video in the area for any clues that might lead to an arrest. of course, boston police asking if you saw anything, if you know anything about this shooting. please give them a call. live in jamaica plain, doug meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. >> right now a man wanted for a shooting inside a stoughton cvs store is waking up behind bars. marcus pierre-louis was arrested

shooting of a teenager inside that store. two juveniles also charged in this. pierre-louis will be arraigned today in boston. >> a federal court review confirms civil rights violations at boston latin. the decision handed down by the u.s. attorney's office after an investigation into how the school handled more than 100 racially charged incidents. community organizers now hopeful the conversation can change following the new recommendations. they include new training for students and monitor future complaints and annual surveys to gauge the racial climate at the school. >> i am very proud for my school. i'm trying to create a safer environment. and that makes me feel safe. >> city leaders say the new plan will be used across the district to prevent further tension. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren coming out against question 2. if approved by voters, the ballot question would lift the cap on the number of charter

the legislature, teacher and parents can come together to make sure all kids get a first-rate education. she says we should take what's working in charter schools and use that to improve other schools. >> firefighters say that this four-alarm fire at an abandoned school in fitchburg was intentionally set. the fire forced the town to cancel classes at the nearby longsjo middle school because of the smoky conditions in the area. one firefighter was hurt but is investigators are asking for the public's help for any information on who set this fire. police in providence, rhode island, are going to be soon wearing those controversial body cameras. police received the $375,000 grant from the u.s. department of justice to purchase 250 of the cameras. and that will allow all of the department's officers to be outfitted. the union there for officers says that they do have questions about these cameras, but overall are in agreement with using

hampshire, are putting out a warning to anyone who filled up at two gas stations in the town. they say that skimming devices have been found on four pumps. and the stations were the super petroleum on south broadway and dusty's citgo on pelham road. police say that they don't know how long they've been there but anyone who filled up at those two stations should keep a close eye on their credit card accounts. >> it's 5:09. taking a closer debate, the voters candidates need to impress to win in november. in your health, the bright side of morning sickness. why it could be a sign of a healthy pregnancy. and a roller coaster remedy. how the thrill ride is making a painful condition easier to handle. we continue to follow breaking news in boston this morning. a man has died after a shooting on centre street. police looking for the shooter.

upload it with your phone. >> rain is drying out through the morning commute. they should be used to this. they can handle it. i don't know. we haven't had much practice lately. extreme drought situation ongoing across more than half of the state where you see the red. obviously, with the deficit of more than 10 inches of rain, a couple of rain events isn't going to make this up. rain. potential for a little bit more on the cape and the islands with this system slowing down. highest rain throughout is through the morning hours. by this afternoon, it is low. it does not go away tomorrow and thursday as we are going to set up with a cooler, damp at times weather pattern here the rest of the week. leading edge of the rain, as you can see, basically lining up along 495. very light, patchy areas of rain and mist closer into boston, but it's much lighter.

about 1/4 of an inch per hour. it's not coming down all that hard. you get into some of the downpours in the western part of the state and it is raining heavier. that's all working through over the next few hours. you can see everything is moving from west to east, and a lot of what you're seeing in connecticut is lifting northward. we're in this for the next few hours for sure, all coming ahead of a front. this front has southerly winds ahead of it so the temperatures so much warmer out the door this morning than yesterday. we're sitting in so today's the warmest day of the week. we've got the rain in place through late morning and then clouds slowly break this afternoon. 60's now. we should pop up over 70 this afternoon with developing sunshine. 70 worcester. 72 boston. warms up to 75 up through the merrimac valley. you see the rain shifting through 8:00 this morning closer to the coastline. we'll be drying off to the west. and by noontime, the rain is

still lingering clouds. especially north and west of boston. that's where the skies brighten up the most. we try to clear out for early tonight. look what happens after midnight. see that bank of clouds starting to work in? winds are going to be turning tonight through the northeast and that's going to fill the clouds back in. temperatures fall in the 50's to around 60 degrees. this front is going to linger offshore. that wind is going to be persistent all day tomorrow and this pattern is not going to change the rest of the week. that means it's going to be cloudy. it's going not raining all day long. take a look at tomorrow for example. those clouds back in. just murky. you're seeing light precipitation there. mist, drizzle. it's with us right on into the afternoon. you can see this pattern does not change through the end of the week. slowly over the course of the weekend, things change. but, wow, we have not seen a pattern like this since june. big changes on the way the rest of the week. >> prepare for delays on the roads. a live look outside by the

a rally at the new hampshire sportsplex in bedford on thursday. new hampshire is important as a swing state, it's clear. if each candidate wins the states they're currently leading in, abc projects clinton would win the presidency with 273 electoral votes. but if trump can flip new hampshire from blue to red, its four electoral votes are enough to put him even with clinton, 269-269 your economy headlines this tuesday morning, asian shares were mostly higher overnight as traders followed last night's debate. stock futures are higher. investors are awaiting the redbook report on consumer spending. a recall on beef, valley and bison products. meats from adams farm slaughterhouse may be contaminated with e. coli.

morning leading our coverage with what the fact-checkers are saying. we'll get to her shortly. first cindy and the rain moving in. >> you got it. we need this rain. not the greatest timing as you head out for the morning commute. it's lighter showers around the boston area. a few up through cape ann and the north shore. steadier rain along 128. it's heavier in worcester county. orange down to south bridge. that's where the rainfall rates are close to hour. still good rain for the next few hours. you can see that band moving from west to east across the state. so everybody is going to get in on this rain over the next few hours. temperatures starting out in the lower 60's. big difference from yesterday morning. we'll see that rain taper off before lunchtime in most areas. a lot of clouds with breaks of sunshine. that may push temperatures into the 70's.

charged in a shooting last night inside a cvs store in stoughton. marcus pierre-louis taken into custody. two juveniles charged in the case. >> a rescued boater is on his way to boston after a week drifting at sea as he gets ready to face questions about what led to the disaster. the eye's sera congi in boston where he's expected today. >> randy, want to interview this rescued boater. questions about how he survived and about his mother, who is still considered missing. 22-year-old nathan carman was found sunday in a life raft 100 miles south of martha's vineyard by a chinese freighter bound for boston. we're told hees in remarkably good condition. his mother, linda carman, was accompanying him when they set sail to go fishing last week from rhode island. she is now presumed dead.

60's. randy. >> cindy, thank you. 5 investigates fallout in the wake of the braintree police evidence station. wayne foster now on administrative leave. as 5 investigates first reported, an outside audit found cash, drugs and guns all missing from the evidence room. the lawyer for the deputy chief foster said that the town's action is to place him on leave is totally inappropriate. 41 criminal cases have been tossut evidence. earlier this month, the police chief announced that his -- he will retire in this case. >> first responders are honored in new hampshire for going above and beyond their call of duty. the 25th annual fire service and e.m.s. awards was held last night honoring the men and women who save lives every day. one of the biggest awards went to manchester's fire department and american medical response for their efforts in battling the opioid crisis.

>> good morning. we're coming up on 5:44. the eyeopener with news to go. emily leading off with a complete wrap-up of last night's presidential debate from new york. doug and sera have the other big stories this morning. >> but first, cindy with your forecast and the much needed rain is here. >> raining this morning! yeah, you can see a good slug moving across the state. this is with us for the next few hours. i think as we get into the afternoon, rain chances come way down. notice tomorrow and thursday, still the chance of some rain. i think drizzle is a better word. i think our steadiest rain opportunities to get good rain coming through this morning. we haven't had much at all this month. not even about a 1/3 of what we get. we typically see 3 inches. we've had 1. as you can see, we desperately need more. we've had a deficit for the year

1/4 to 1/2 inch expected from this band coming through this morning. there could be a little more down on the cape and islands. you can see how the rain is filling in inside of 128. raining pretty good in boston up to gloucester. this goes all the way back to the worcester area where we are seeing rainfall rates heavier just to the southwest of worcester. so the intensity is going to pick up for you shortly. this is all lining up ahead of a frontal boundary which will come through this afternoon. southerly winds now has jumped us behind this front, the air mass is cooler. this filters in as we get to tonight and tomorrow. 60's this morning. rain tapering off by lunchtime. during the afternoon, you get enough sunshine, the temperatures sneak up into the 70's. through 8:00 this morning, wet roadways that are going to impact your morning commute. by lunchtime, rain is shifting offshore. north and west of town, we may try to brighten things up through the afternoon. overnight as we try to clear things out early, look what

east. notice how the clouds back in. this front will get hung up just offshore. that nearly wind sets up overnight. but it is persistent the next couple of days and with that cloudy, cool, damp. i think we get some drizzle from time to time. much of tomorrow will be dry. look at those temperatures. low 60's tomorrow. we're going to repeat it. only 60 on thursday. let's get you out to the roads. it is a wet ride, olessa. >> yes, watching delays starting to build across the area. you can see that shiny leverett connector at the bottom of the screen. as you travel south, some delays building on 24 out of avon. your ride on the expressway 25 minutes from braintree up into boston. as you travel the pike, still only 15, 495 to 128. heading north, 95 south building volume out of methuen. more delays as you make your way toward spot pond. trains and buses, no problems

this morning, analysts poring over one fiery presidential debate. >> emily's leading our coverage from hofstra university in new york. emily, as expected, things got heated last night at points. >> they absolutely did. and voters have a lot to digest this morning. donald trump and hillary clinton clashing on a number of big issues, including how to bridge the racial divide in this country. >> african americans, hispanics, are living in hell because so dangerous. you walk down the street. you get shot. >> everyone should be respected by the law and everyone should respect the law. right now, that's not the case in a lot of our neighborhoods. >> trump suggested that the controversial stop and frisk policy be brought back and expanded beyond new york. moderator lester holt pointed out that the practice was ruled unconstitutional.

right now. doug? >> boston police getting the call at 1:00 this morning of gunshot fire at the mildred hailey apartments behind me in jamaica plain. when they arrived on the scene, they found a man inside the complex with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. all we know about the victim is that he is in his 40's. police searching for a suspect. this is taking close to the jackson meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. >> a boater rescued after surviving a week on a life raft will come into boston today where coast guard officials want to question him. 22-year-old nathan carman and his mother, linda, went fishing off rhode island last week. the coast guard says their boat started taking on water. nathan reported that when he got his life raft, he couldn't find his mother. well, he was found sunday 100 miles south of martha's vineyard

whole band is moving steadily eastward. you haven't seen much yet, but that rain is incoming with this frontal boundary. once it crosses, big upper-level low will give us a stalled weather pattern. showers are coming through the morning commute at 8:00 a.m. and by noontime you can see everything is offshore. still a lot of clouds. we start to brighten things up. during the afternoon hours and this evening, we try to clear things out, but overnight, a northeasterly wind develops and clouds back in off the ocean. temperatures hold in the 50's to near 60 degrees. those clouds back in off the ocean and get stuck in place the rest of the week. big upper-level low sitting and spinning to our south and west is going to keep the weather pattern from changing until the end of the week. we're talking about temperatures stuck in the 60's with the wind coming in off the water. it will be cloudy, cool and damp with drizzle. could be steadier rain friday into saturday. then things should improve toward the end of the weekend. what a change. let's get you out to those wet
