>> we begin with breaking news involving the vermont man rescued at sea. nathan carman was brought back to boston yesterday after spending almost a week in the water after his boat sank. he tells the associated press the fishing boat sank within a matter of minutes taking his mother with it. he says he didn't harm her. linda carman is her name, who is now presumed dead and nathan also says he had nothing to do with his grandfath's 2013 unsolved murder. he had been a suspect but was never charged. we'll have much more on this story coming up ahead at 6:00. >> also breaking 59:30, the teenager suspect in a south carolina school shooting apparently killed his father before heading to the school. two students and a teacher were hurt in the shooting. they are reportedly in good condition at a hospital so this is a blessing. the teenage shooting in custody.

horrific highway crash in westport. a livery driver veered across the median into the other side of the highway that car slammed head on into another. how it happened is under investigation. >> this burlington high school coach is on-leave accused of inappropriate conduct towards player. it's what the school calls "verbal misconduct." >> not enough rain to these overcast dreary days. >> i'm not that picky, i'll take any rain. jerry: it would be thighs if we could get a significant amount of rain. it's cloudy and cool. only 51 right now at worcester airport. it will stay in the 50s overnight. to the north and west it will drop into the upper 40s. hope for a little bit of sun for us tomorrow as dry air works in

weather will build in from the south and we have a new tropical storm. it's matthew, likely to become a hurricane. moving through the caribbean. could have some impact on parts of the east coast. just a possibility, anywhere from middle to the latter portion of next week. we'll talk about that and the weekend in a few minutes. >> a former priest is facing rape and sexual assault charges. the alleged assault took place when michael walsh was an alter boy coordinator at a dorchester church nearly three decades ago. here >> i haven't seen him in over 27 years. >> yeah a lot of emotions. >> 79-year-old michael walsh's accuser doesn't want to be identified. he was in fourth grade when the sexual abuse began the former priestk now charged with three rapes of a child and three counts of assault and battery on a child.

before walsh became a priest. at that time he was an alter boy coordinator, as well as a little league coach. prosecutors say he used those positions to get close to the child, groping, touching and eventually raping him. now 38-year-old man brought the allegations to police just this summer after decades. >> i never thought i would come forward, i thought it would be something i would just live with and deal with as i have for 27 years, but i have nephews and seeing them, i would never want something that victims, that this gives them the courage to come forward as well. >> i hope he's prosecuted and goes to jail for it and that this doesn't happen to anyone else. >> there could be more victims. walsh was defrocked in 2002 shortly after becoming a priest in michigan after allegations surfaced from his time at a charlestown church. else. >> there could be the d.a.'s office says those allegations are unrelated to this current criminal case.

suffolk superior court, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> a new hampshire mother could face charges after a bizarre accident bizarre accident involving her 2-year-old daughter. the unidentified woman allowed her 7-year-old daughter to go outside and start the car. did 2-year-old followed her sister out and was behind the car when the older girl turned the key and threw the car into reverse running over the 2-year-old. >> children are inquisitive. they are going to do things. it was unsupervised. they are going to do things when the parents aren't looking and do things that could potentially put themselves in danger and others in danger. she put both her children in great danger. >> here's the good news. the little girl was flown to boston children's. broken bones, but she is expected to be okay. >> the sight of a husband of horrors where the bodies of three babies were found now belongs to the town. a milford times reporting black stone has taken the property for nonpayment of taxes, two years

times especially along the coast. it's a little bit damp feeling and it's certainly cool but it was a good day for me to head out and see some great kids. these were the fifth graders at the arthur t. school in winthrop. had a great time. all the kids were tremendous and i've got to tell you something. a great little guy and he's a fifth grader and a year ago, or about a year ago, he saw him at the museum of science when we had a wild weather weekend. so into weather. finally we were able to make it happen. with crazy schedules all the way around and he's just terrific. and so were all of his classmates. that was a lot of fun. tonight it's going to be cool. in the 40s north and west, where the clouds may try to break and in the 50s closer to the coast, to the cape where there could be some intermittent drizzle with a raw northeasterly wind. tomorrow's high temperatures will bounce up a little bit well north and west. that's the best chance of actually getting some appreciable sunshine.

temperatures, will occur tomorrow. southeastern mass and the cape, i don't think you'll get into the clearing but do you see some partial clearing has already taken place to the north. the only problem is there is also rain to the south so in the short term, dry air will try to make some progress south but as we get to friday afternoon and friday night and saturday, then moisture from the south is going to win out as we start to get a low pressure area, eventually move close enough to bring some of this rain our way into fr of drizzle coming in but as you head north and west you run into some brightening tomorrow. may try to work in closer to boston as we go through the day but even if it does, we'll go right back the other way friday morning and then the rains will follow friday afternoon or night and on into saturday. it's possible we'll get some appreciable rainfall out of this, so maybe we'll help the drought situation out some. but the thing is once that wet weather moves in i think first

than the second half but we don't look for true clearing until early next week. i want to talk about matthew, ow newest tropical storm likely to become a hurricane over the next few days. these are all our different computer models, kind of clustered and moving to the west-northwest through the lower portion of the caribbean. however, as about three days, there is a clustering of trying to take it more to the north. now we get into early next week. what happens for the rest of next week? different computer models. way out in time and the so one possibility is to just kind of leave it milling behind. another one could bring it up the east coast. something to watch, which we'll be doing, of course, over time. in the meantime, there you see a little brightening for some of us, mainly north and west for tomorrow. otherwise, look for rains to move in on friday afternoon or night. wet, cool, damp saturday seems likely and some clouds and a few leftover showers are possible on sunday. should get better day by day monday, tuesday, and wednesday.
