tarantal. emily is off today. randy: and i'm randy price with cindy fitzgibbon. good morning. cindy: you walk out the door this morning and wow. a little chilly. the temperatures are in the 50s but the wind is what you are going to notice. rough, especially along the coastline. we are getting gusts to 20 miles per hour, even 30 but everywhere you will notice the wind. just 50 in worcester. 55 in boston, and closer to 60 on the cape but look it said towards concord and keen. cooler because here the skies are clear. we're under the clouds right now, and you can see that there is steadier rain and heavy rain at that, just to the south, and this is trying to lift northward. it is not going to be able to budge today because it's running into the high pressure, which has drier air associated with that, and some of it will be sneaking down the coast. you can see that here, as the clearer skies go to areas outside of 495 before lunchtime. we keep a lot of clouds, and as we get into the afternoon,

points northward, brightening skies this afternoon. briefly while we keep locked under the clouds in southeastern massachusetts so temperatures in the 50s, hold close to 60 degrees on into the afternoon but there is the brightening into the late afternoon, and the temperatures will be a bit warmer. where we see more sunshine here just up through the merrimack valley today. don't get used to any breaks, the steadier rain is on the way, and we'll time that out coming up. out to the roads we go, we have got trouble on the trains this morning, olessa. of canceled trains, 751 and 7752 canceled, and for -- 751 and 752. and in stoughton. let's get to the maps because there are a few problem spots. if you are heading out along 495 by 213, there is a crash, and 93

into andover and approaching the spot pond, and we're watching a crash in saugus by essex street, two lanes are closed. it is northbound so should not impact you too much so the stop and stare delays will be there. the pike eastbound, 15 minutes, 495 to 128, and if you are heading along 24, slow out of brockton, route 3 heavy from weymouth, expressway 30 to 35, braintree into boston. and erika and randy. >> right now police are trying to unravel a bizarre mystery. >> involving a young w antoinette antonio is live at headquarters with what we know this morning. antoinette? antoinette: this was a bizarre search. it started when the woman called 9-1-1, telling police that she was tied up. they eventually found her in a wooded area after searching last night. let's go ahead and take you back to that scene. a all happened down an embankment off route 18 near the ramp to route 3 in weymouth.

department, as well as state police were all involved. we could see officers climbing up and down that ravine using a rope. police also laid out several evidence markers, including one next to a shoe. they found that woman. police are not releasing a lot of information about this including how she ended up down that embankment or her condition. we will stay on top of this and bring you the latest information as we get it. we're live in weymouth, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. erika: thank you, a boater rescued at sea is disputing allegations his boat may have been unsafe. nathan carman says he would not have taken his mother out fishing if he thought his boat was not seaworthy. the pair was 100 miles off the coast of rhode island when they started sinking. carmen made it to a life raft but there has been no sign of his mother. >> i did see the life raft. i did not see or hear my mom,

holding onto the survival gear. i got onboard and looking around, and i was calling out to my mom. >> under new scrutiny three years ago court papers show nathan carman came under suspicion in the death of his grandfather found dead in his connecticut home. carmen was never charged but that is still an unsolved death. carmen denies any involvement. randy: right now a 14-year-old is in custody accused of opening fire at a south carolina elementary school and police say he's also a of his father. police say that the gunman drove up to the townville school and opened fire. two students and teacher were shot. the teenager was quickly taken down by a volunteer firefighter, who lives nearby. the school was evacuated, parents picked up their children at a nearby church. >> you don't think anything like this would ever happen around here. >> two miles away, 47-year-old

to death. police believe his son killed him and went to the school and opened fire. police say the teacher and one student are back home this morning, but the other student remains in critical condition. >> calls for changes on the streets across boston. sera congi is live with how hundreds will make their voices heard today. sera. sera: erika, that rally will focus on safety all around boston especially for those who walk or ride their bikes on the streets across the city.ca increased in light of a string of crashes, including the one that killed boston university researcher anita herman. she was struck and killed while riding her bike near the intersection of beacon street and mass avenue last year. the group organizing today's rally, the vision zero coalition, they want the city to spend more money on redesigning the roads, hiring more staff to deal with the issue, and also delivering on goals laid out

the north. and it's just 40 degrees there, and that's because the skies are clear, but the wind is making all the difference. you can see the sustained winds, 15 to 20 miles per hour, and they are gusting higher. look at the gusts this afternoon. we're still going to have the gusty winds tonight and even during the day tomorrow. still dealing with these winds, and they are just bringing in low level moisture. the steadier rain is down to the south, so can't rule out a patch of drizzle. that's about the extent of it. held off for another day, and it's this high that has dry air associated with it. it will sneak down today so as we get into the afternoon, the skies may brighten around boston and points north and west, but with that wind, still going to be a cool day even if the sun pops out. near 60 degrees, and may sneak up into the low to mid 60s in the merrimack valley because before noontime we'll have a bit of sunshine, and as we get deeper into the afternoon,

from the pike northward, southeastern massachusetts, the cape, you are locked in tight with the clouds, and the clouds start to fill back in here through the overnight, as the temperatures fall, into the 40s and 50s, and we get into the day tomorrow, and that area of rain to the south, starts to lift northward but i think it will be during the afternoon and evening hours best-selling befon the tropics, tropical storm matthew, the winds up to 65 miles per hour, and it is moving westward here, probably going to impact jamaica and early next week or late in the weekend, and from there a lot of our computer model says are turning this up through the bahamas, and the ores, is keeping a close eye as this could have impacts on the eastern seaboard during next week, so we have the steadier rain tomorrow, and afternoon, evening hours, it will linger into saturday, and take a look at the computer models here indicating the potential for about a half an inch to an inch of rainfall here through saturday. so that would be great news, again, that rain kicks up

interstate 195 yesterday morning, the car crossed the median from the westbound side to the eastbound side of the highway, and the two men in that car also died. the state police investigating how this happened. >> right now family and friends are begging for help. two years after a man was killed by a hit and run driver in brockton. there are still no suspects, and few leads in that case. and they want that to change. >> they sang and prayed all of the people gathered at the site of that crime last night, want the same thing, justice, for 31-year-old carl yancey. he just had left his job for years ago, was crossing belmont street when he was struck and killed. friends say that they are losing hope. his mother is begging the driver to do the right thing. >> this is the most painful part about it, is that he was left. that nobody stopped.

when it happened, you know. just hoping that they will find someone but it looks dowfer. >> surveillance video released after the crash shows a silver minivan believed to be involved in the hit and run, and anyone who has any information is asked to call brockton police. >> right now the football coach at burlington high school is on leave. sean mcguire is accused of verbal misconduct towards his players. the administrators would not give any specifics but say that this kind seriously. an attorney for mcguire says that they have not been provided any specifics about the allegations or who made them. but they are confident an investigation will find that the coach did not do anything wrong. the tough questions for the president from members of the military. his response to a recent national anthem protest, and ahead in news to go, new details in a deadly police shooting in san diego, the item the officers say that they thought was a weapon.

had given the older child the car keys and permission to start the car, when apparently has happened in the past. the toddler has broken bones and other injuries, but is expected to be ok. the mother involved in this could face criminal charges. live this morning at children's hospital, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. erika: police in san diego say a man shot and killed by an officer was holding an electronic cigarette. the video shows the man holding the device while taking a of the victim told police her brother had suffered from an emotional breakdown, but that he was unarmed. a witness provided cell phone video of the shooting to police but has not been released. and the family of a man shot and killed by framingham police will get 3.79 million. yuri stamp was killed by accident in 2011. his family sued. details of the settlement were just released.

third party candidate. speaking of that, gary johnson and running mate bill weld were also on the campus last night. >> new hampshire voters can go ahead and take a selfie with their ballot. it's their constitutional right. a federal court threw out the law banning people from taking a picture of the ballot. massachusetts also has a ban on selfies in the voting booth but officials admit it's next to impossible to enforce. >> a paternity suspended after accusations of racism. the university of missouri says that complains against the paternity after they say a white student uttered a racial obscenity. delta upsilon says it is working with the school now to investigate the incident. the fraternity was crated for other unrelated violations this semester. >> a bizarre deer attack in new jersey all caught on camera, a police officer was on his way to a call when the car in front of him stopped. that's when a woman who accidentally struck is a deer had to fight it off as you can

truck. the officer's dash-cam recorded the incident. he says if he did not see it he would not have believed it. unfortunately here the deer did not survive. the driver is expected to be ok. randy: this device approved by the fda could be a game changer. it's an artificial pancreas, first of its kind, the device monitors a person's blood and sugar and delivers you notice linn. right now diabetics have to do that themselves multiples a day, the devices >> and daycare cost more than college. a new report from a think tank called new america finds the average cost of full-time childcare for a child up to age four is about $9600 a year. compare that to the average cost of instate college tuition, and that's about $200 less. in massachusetts daycare cost more over 13,000 a year. >> right now all outdoor water

wind is going to be with us all day long, so it's going to keep the temperatures down but notice the breaks of sunshine at times throughout the day. a little brighter than it has been. and the temperatures though, still holding near 60, it is brighter more of the day out through the merrimack valley we could sneak up into the mid 60s, drier air with the high pressure holding off all of this rain from the south from moving, in and so you can see how the clouds are breaking now to the north and west, and that trend is going to be with us through lunch and into the afternoon, and a lot of these clouds shrink th southeastern massachusetts, and then everybody is back in the clouds. and temperatures, down in the 40s and 50s, and we're going to watch that area of rain lift northward as we go through friday. so i think that on friday, the rain gets steadier as the day wears on, may get heavy into friday night and saturday morning, as well, you can see that here on the future cast. and by the evening and overnight hours heavier rain, and it's with us on saturday, and wetter of the two weekend days is saturday, the potential for a
