emily is off. randy: i'm randy price with cindy fitzgibbon. cindy: the weather is not going to be great this weekend. it's still the weekend. we do need the rainfall. absolutely. have the wet weather gear as you head out the door this morning. also, you want to dress warmly as we've got temperatures running in the upper 40's to the 50's. you can see we're coolest out in worcester where it's 48 degrees. 58 in boston. a little closer to 60 degrees on cape cod this morning. that wind is still noticeable off the northeasterly winds about 5, 15, close to 20 miles an hour at the coast. it's a raw feel out the door. radar is relatively quiet. as we widen the view, there is moisture gathering to our south and west. this is going to be feeding in as we go through the morning hours. and low pressure is going to be slow to move by us the next 24. we'll see that rain coming in as we get toward lunchtime and into the afternoon. your morning is quiet for the morning commute. sun up at 6:41.

the eye's antoinette antonio is live in worcester with what we've learned. antoinette? antoinette: erika, this morning that suspect is facing a slew of charges including attempted murder, strangulation, and indecent assault. the victim in this case just 3 years old. this all started with a 9-1-1 call yesterday from the suspect himself. 21-year-old taj mcdonald. he allegedly said he had just killed a little boy who's a family member of his. officers found that sitting on a couch inside a home at the lincoln village apartments. the boy was conscious. he had injuries to his face and neck area. a worker who was painting a porch awning outside says that he heard a young child wailing inside that home. >> sounded like he was screaming, but, i mean, you know, just pretty much crying and sometimes screaming. but i don't know.

antoinette: a witness took a photo of mcdonald being put in the police car. neighbors say this is not the first time police have been to the apartment. dcf is aware of this incident and are involved in the investigation. we, of course, will continue to bring you more information as it becomes available. we're live in worcester this morning. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. erika: antoinette, thank you. right now, two recovering after being stabbed outside a movie theater in braintree. police say it happened in the parking lot of the amc theater last night. both victims are 36 years old. both from hingham. no arrests have been made. police do not have a description of a suspect. right now, newton police investigating after a couple is hit by a tow truck. this was the scene last night on beacon street. both victims were taken to nearby hospitals. their conditions, though, not clear. a witness tells us they were in the crosswalk coming from a nearby restaurant when they were

on the scene. randy: right now, women in one boston neighborhood are on alert after a frightening attack there. the female victim tells police she was walking on gayhead street near menden street. a man approached her around 1:45 thursday morning. the suspect pulled a gun, demanded she hand over her phone. the woman was then forced to walk into a backyard at 24 gayhead street. the victim says the suspect sexually assaulted her. residents say this is a quiet, >> i feel like a lot of people around here know each other, so everyone seems to look out for one another. and for that to happen, it's really bizarre. randy: police ask anyone who may have seen or heard something to give them a call. erika: new this morning -- new video overnight as authorities search the home of a woman feared lost at sea. it's unclear what, if anything, police took from linda carman's

a week in a life raft. the coast guard says all agencies will meet monday. they're trying to determine if work on carman's boat made it unsafe, something he has denied. right now, we're getting new details about the deadly crash involving a new jersey commuter train. here's what we know at this hour. the train's engineer is now out of the hospital, cooperating with investigators. 48-year-old thomas gallagher has worked for new jersey transit

mechanical failure. randy: crash has raised questions about the safety systems on the mbta. the government wanted positive train control in place a year ago, but the t is struggling to catch up with that goal. it towers and satellites to determine exactly where a train is. ptc tracks how fast a train is going, if it senses danger, it can then bring a train to a safe stop. according to the t's latest progress report, it's installed ptc technology on 87% of its locomotives. trained 23% of its operational employees and prepared 27% of the tracks. finishing the job will cost $459

right now, investigators are trying to figure out how a ride at the big e got stuck, leaving more than a dozen people stranded in the air. west springfield firefighters had to bring in ladders to get people off the wipeout ride last night. they were up about 20 feet when the ride stalled. the rescue took about two hours. no one was hurt. the ride will remain closed for the rest of the fair. erika: services are uwa former israeli president shimon peres. president obama just addressed. he arrived with the u.s. delegation, including bill clinton members and members of congress. a new tool to stop addiction. randy: a specific "seinfeld" --

temperatures tonight falling back to mostly the upper 40's and mid 50's. temperatures don't change much again tomorrow. it's a cool day with temperatures stuck in the 50's. hurricane matthew has strengthened. the winds 100 miles an hour. we will take a closer look at that track coming up. but i want to focus you in on saturday. you're waking up to rain. but look at this through the afternoon. there's still rain around heaviest over southeastern massachusetts. saturday evening, morning, still a few showers around. we'll tend to dry things out a little bit toward the course of the day. saturday is the wetter weekend day. i think the patriots, you know, it's not going to be all that wet if you're headed to gillette. not a washout. erika: then it gets better. cindy: it does, by monday. olessa: so far, the roads are quiet. no accidents to report. a little bit of volume starting to build.

erika: so far this new form of fentanyl has not been found in new hampshire. randy: focusing on your family health, a new program may identify which children are at greater risk of developing drug and alcohol addiction later in life. it's called preventure. it's being tested in europe, australia and canada now. this zeros in on kids with four key traits, sensation seeking, impulsiveness, sensitivity to anxiety, and hopelessness. training for teachers and workshops for kids to try and steer them away from addiction. erika: your economy headlines this friday morning. a boston-based environmental group is suing exxon mobil for allegedly polluting the mystic river. they failed to provide for rising sea levels.

randy: 5:30 friday morning. we're looking at the radar. you can see a little green here and there. that is rain to the south moving this way to the boston area. thanks for joining us. i'm randy price. erika: i'm erika tarantal. emily is off today. it's a big night at fenway. cindy: wet weather gear if you're headed to fenway park pretty much anywhere today. you don't need it now. deeper in the morning and this afternoon, that rain will be filling in. we'll take a c county right now, some scattered areas of light rain developing across connecticut as well. that is all moving in. so jacket, breezy at the bus stop this morning, but rain gear definitely needed for the ride home off the bus today. notice the temperatures going nowhere. we're going to be stuck in the 50's. right now it's in the upper 40's in worcester. 59 on the cape. we still have wind coming in off the water adding a raw feel stepping out this morning. you see the heavy rain to our south. a lot of this will be lifting

45-year-old man last year according to the attorney general's office. douglas buckley pointed a realistic looking b.b. gun at officers and threatened to kill them. investigators also say that he'd just been warned that he was going to burn his house down. still no i.d. of the man killed in the construction accident in georgetown. it happened yesterday at the mirra company. it's the victim was backing an excavator out of the garage when he was killed. erika: 5 investigates learning that new technology used to zero in on a suspect may help in other cases. investigators used unidentified dna to develop these sketches of a suspect in the 1992 murder of teacher lisa ziegert. investigators trying to solve

morning if you're heading out right now is the time to do it. cindy, we have wet weather? cindy: boy, do we need it. you don't want to leave without your wet weather gear. rain heaviest to our south. it's going to be moving in from the south to the north as the morning wears on. lunchtime into the afternoon. heavier tonight and saturday looks like a wet day. the wetter of the two weekend days. 50's to 60 degrees. right through the weekend. randy? randy: this morning we're talking to a manho country's first-ever penis transplant, and this morning we're hearing from tom manning about his recovery and the challenges that he has been facing. doctors say manning has accomplished two of the three goals set by the transplant team, including restoration of urinary function. the third goal is to get sensations back. manning says that he's feeling stronger, and almost ready to go back to work. >> some of the guys and some of the girls, they go like this,

randy: good morning. friday morning. it is 5:44. we're tracking the tropics in news to go. hurricane matthew gaining strength overnight. the storm is definitely one for many to watch. erika: cindy, you have been doing just that? cindy: it became a hurricane about 1:00, 1:30. the winds are now 100-mile-per-hour winds. you can see where it is closer to south america than anywhere else. but this thing is going to be strengthening as it lifts farther west. probably a category three hurricane in the next 24 hours. notice how it makes a turn. places like jamaica and cuba are going to be watching this through the weekend and from this position, i want to show

doing. there isn't a large consensus on exactly where this is going to be going. it looks like the east coast of the united states is certainly going to be watching this very closely as we get toward next week. any impacts would be that far out, toward the middle and end of next week. a lot of the computer models are starting to shift this farther offshore. matthew is one we have to watch in the days ahead. in the short-term, we are going to be watching rain coming in. although the rain chances are pretty low, they are ramping up this afternoon right through your saturday. i a wet day with rain off and on at times all day long. we need it. look at the rainfall amounts. anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches of rain. this may be underdone for you in southeastern massachusetts where i think the heaviest rain will fall. low pressure to our south right now. going to slowly pass by to our south through the weekend. as it does so, it's going to bring in rain bands. we're primarily dry with cloud cover around. the rain comes in around lunchtime and it's with us into the afternoon and with a

mcconnell say that the bill does need repairs. ryan says that he believes that those families should have their time in the court but added that service members overseas need to be protected as well. other lawmakers are already working on fixes for this bill. erika: we've learned a scare for a woman in weymouth was a hoax. police say the story was just made up. frightening video from california here. a convenience store clerk kidnapped while on the job. watching as she's dragged into a car by a man as he hits her with a hammer. the kidnapper brought the woman to a cemetery, where she did manage to escape and the suspect was captured. police saying he'd been stalking the victim for weeks trying to kidnap her. randy: a new warning this morning from doctors concerning the zika virus. doctors are saying that the virus may spread in sweat and
