one more today. then we're into the postseason. but we've got to talk about the tropics. that is ugly. mike: hurricane matthew, maximum sustained winds 150 miles an hour. still a category four storm sitting down here where it's been churning. a little change from yesterday. the track seems to be a little farther to the east, so yesterday was looking like jamaica. now it's looking more towards haiti. that's not going to happen till tuesday. then it moves will impact the east coast. we'll talk more about those possibilities in a few moments. this morning, you're waking up to more gray skies. a little drizzle, especially right near the shoreline. nice showers down in the cape earlier. those have diminished and moved offshore. a band of showers toward orange. not looking for much rain. not nearly as wet as yesterday. i don't know we'll be looking at much sunshine and a cool start to your morning with reading into the 40's and 50's. here's the way it looks through

but there's not a lot of rain showing up that we saw like yesterday. the temperatures are not going to be changing much because of gray skies. we'll talk more about when it clears out and the temperatures warm up. all that coming up in a few moments. antoinette? antoinette: all right, mike. thank you. we are following breaking news right now on the eyeopener. two people are dead following a crash in yarmouth. this is video in overnight from the area of buck island road. police say two vehicles collided head on just around 10:30 last night. a thi injured. the names of the victims have not yet been released. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. doug: also breaking overnight, police are on the scene after a car ran into a home in peabody. one person taken to the hospital. the building inspector called in to assess structural damage to the hometown. antoinette: commitment 2016. both campaigns on the attack after new revelations about

trump's tax records from 1995. he declared a $916 million loss. tax experts tell the paper that filing could have allowed trump to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for nearly two decades. we don't know how much trump has actually paid because he's refusing to release his detailed tax returns. in a statement, trump's campaign didn't deny the figure but said, quote, the only that the more than 20-year-old alleged tax document was illegally obtained. mr. trump is a highly skilled businessman who has a fiduciary responsibility to his business, family and employees to pay no more tax than necessary. meanwhile, hillary clinton blasted trump in a late-night

next door. >> it sounded so loud, i thought a bomb went off. reporter: the owner had just gone upstairs to take a shower. >> the whole house vibrated. reporter: the owner says his wife was asleep in the bedroom. >> fortunately, she had rolled over to the other side of the bed. everything else had caved in was on the bed. thank god we're all okay. reporter: even though the pickup driver's home is a few feet away, it's outside boston city limits the fire department says the driver appears to have had a medical emergency. the pickup driver is in his 50's. an ambulance took him to beth israel medical center. doug: we're getting new details about that fire that ripped through a dorm at dartmouth college. students were able to pick up some things from morton hall yesterday. two firefighters were injured battling friday night's fire. they say it was even tougher to

eye. that eye indicates how powerful this thing is. we're keeping a very close eye on this, because it may, may, i want to emphasize that, impact the east coast of the united states. but it's several days down the road. there you can see where it's at. it's a concentrated storm. but that eye so well defined right through there. yesterday morning we had a really good eye. then it faded a little bit. now it's back to a very strong category four storm. we put the computer models together, it looks like a plate of it's moving its way a little farther to the east compared to yesterday. that puts haiti under this. this is the way the map looks at 8:00 tomorrow night. these are the projected paths. maybe not as direct a hit as yesterday was feared in jamaica but more of a hit as you look at haiti. because of the mountains there on the mountain of hispaniola, flooding can be a big concern. after that, it's going to take it all week to get into this position right here. this is the way i'm talking

down here. you're going to hear a lot about it. after that, the consensus to the models is not very good. you see a trend pushing it offshore, which would keep it away from us. those are some of the things we'll be watching. i have a couple of really good computer models we look at for long range. here's the u.s. model. this is friday morning. so all that time it takes just to get it over the southeastern part of the united states. but this one really wants to bring it over the top of us but not u monday. it's a long way down the road. the european model yesterday kicking this out to sea, but now it's hanging closer to the coast but staying down to the south a lot longer. the other thing we had going on yesterday was the rain. .71 inches of rain yesterday in boston which puts us above average but still for the year running almost 10 inches to the dry side. since midnight there's been a little rain, but mostly drizzle. you can see where it's focused

most of it was yesterday. i'm not looking for much today. gray skies i am looking at and perhaps a patchy shower. picking up a little one out toward the orange area. it will be diminishing as we head to the morning. not a lot of activity. big low-pressure system brings this back. there's the one that gave us rain yesterday. a little one down here to we talk about tomorrow. let's talk about today. today, gray skies out there and some scattered drizzle mostly this morning. maybe a shower here or there. it will be dry but overcast. tomorrow, have a chance of some afternoon showers in the forecast. we'll start out where we are today. in the afternoon, see how there's more development and mainly out to the west. keep that in mind as you make your plans for monday. when does it clear away?

5 investigates with the exclusive video that forced a top official out of his job. reporter: the department of conservation and recreation claims to be all about improving outdoor recreational activities in massachusetts. but another outdoor activity is now at the center of the latest dcr scandal. that's dcr deputy commissioner matthew trying to move through traffic on congress street this summer. another day this summer and another video of the deputy commissioner doing the same thing, even though this time the road is relatively clear. these videos now in the hands of the state police which launched an investigation on thursday leading to his resignation from his job the next day. the governor's communications director saying the governor is disappointed in the deputy

doug: doug: welcome back. it's 5:44. we have new information about the deadly commuter train crash that injured more than 100 people in new jersey. federal investigators say that structural concerns at the hoboken terminal along with the possible presence of asbesto investigation, but they do know that there were no problems with signals before the station. one woman was killed in that crash. the train's engineer has been interviewed, but the ntsb isn't providing details on that. antoinette: caught on camera, a woman is run over while pumping gas north of charlotte, north carolina. you can see the pickup truck slammed right into the car, sending that woman flying. amazingly, she only has minor injuries and is expected to be

it's trying to go through that little passage between the two islands. we'll see if that can happen. this is the way the map looks by next friday. this thing is really slow-moving. gets to this position right here. you see the general consensus. the models are in agreement. then they spread out. they really spread out as we head toward next weekend. so will it have an impact on the east coast? hard to say right now, but we always keep a very close eye on the tropics. remember, for if it even happens until we talk about next weekend. so it's a long way down the road and a lot more computer model runs will be coming in giving us more details. today the details are all around the gray skies out there. we've had a few scattered showers that were moving through the area overnight last night. this is really the only band that we had developing. it lifted its way out of the berkshires up towards keene and it's falling apart. what doesn't show up on the satellite/radar composite is the drizzle. there's a lot of it out there

right now. you're seeing a little bit of drizzle going on. that will be with us today off and on. it won't show up on the radar very well. the reason we're stuck in this pattern, there's a large upper-level low to the west. we see disturbances coming through. yesterday we had nice rains along the coast. today we have gray skies and fog as well. visibility in most locations 10 miles or better. when you get to the shoreline, it's 2, 2 1/2 miles. visibility down to 1/4 mile. a lot of moisture in the air this morning. it's 54 degrees. dew point matches it. there's not much of a breeze. those are the perfect ingredients to get fog to form. you'll notice the temperatures pretty uniform. upper 40's. a lot of upper -- mid 50's anyway and a few places into the upper 50's. a gray start to your day. that's the way it's going to be. high temperature right around 60 degrees. tomorrow is still an overcast day.

afternoon, good chance we could see showers. the morning map looks like what we're looking at now, gray skies. but then you see during the afternoon, especially to the west, we could see scattered showers showing up out there as well. then finally we start to clear on tuesday. slow process. wednesday, more sunshine. thursday, lots of sunshine. with the sunshine back out, temperatures will warm into the upper 60's to 70 which is where they're supposed to be instead of that gray cool 50's. by the end of the see showers. dry weather coming in after some really nice rains yesterday. doug and antoinette? antoinette: all right, mike. thank you. it is 5:48. now to the stories we are following right now on the eyeopener. doug: officials say people in southern california should be on heightened alert for the chance of a major earthquake. the alert follows a series of small tremors along the san andreas fault. these warnings are issued once or twice a year and that alert expected to last until tuesday. a peaceful protest in downtown seattle.
