hug. it really does. is it going to be a wet hug? mike: it's going to be damp, overcast, gray skies, a little drizzle here or there. but not any big rain event like yesterday. yesterday, some places picking up almost two inches of rain. let me show you this system. this has a lot of rain as well. over the ocean, as it moves northward, we could actually see some real serious flooding in haiti. we could see anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of rain eadsly. wh t it's cutting right here haiti. yesterday it looked like it would be towards jamaica. now it's haiti and cuba. even though it's a category three storm at this time, matthew looks like it's going to slow down as it heads through the bahamas. that's why we're talking about next friday morning that it's off the coast of florida. it may have some impact on our weather. the trend is pushing offshore. we'll talk more in detail in a few moments. gray skies, drizzle.

but there is some out there as you've stepped out and noticed this morning. today we'll look for a gray day, hit or miss showers. 60 degrees. that's all the warmer we get. i'll show you when the 70's and sunshine are back in the forecast in a few moments. antoinette? antoinette: all right, mike. we are following breaking news on the eyeopener. two people are dead following a crash in yarmouth. this is video in overnight from the area of buck island road. two vehicles collided head on right a injured. the names of the victims have not been released. the cause of the crash is under investigation. doug: a car ran into a home in peabody. one person taken to the hospital. the building inspector called in to assess structural damage to that home. antoinette: commitment 2016. both campaigns are on the attack after new revelations about donald trump's tax returns.

released what it says are trump's tax records from 1995. he declared a $916 million loss. tax experts tell the paper that filing could have allowed trump to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for nearly two decades. now, we don't know how much trump has actually paid because he's refusing to release his detailed tax returns. in a statement, trump's campaign didn't deny the figure but did say, quote, the only news here is thator alleged tax document was illegally obtained. mr. trump is a highly skilled businessman who has a fiduciary responsibility to his business, his family and his employees to may no more tax than required. the statement lists all of his taxes that trump has paid, although it does not specifically mention federal income tax. meanwhile, hillary clinton blasted trump in a late-night statement saying, quote, he apparently got to avoid paying

working families paid them. he calls that smart. she called on trump to release his full returns. antoinette: trump turned his full attention to hillary clinton in pennsylvania. >> hillary clinton think bernie sanders' supporters are hopeless and ignorant basement dwellers. then, of course, she thinks people who vote for and follow us are deplorable and antoinette: at one point last night, trump physically mocked clinton's health. he called the former secretary of state low energy, saying the job as president requires stamina. the only vice presidential debate is two days away. tim kaine and mike pence squaring off on tuesday night. coverage gets started at 9:00 p.m. on wcvb channel 5. then it is round two for clinton and trump. they're next presidential debate

emotional moment on the field with a very special fan. live from fenway park this morning, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. doug: all right, thanks. right now, two men are under arrest on drug charges. four children inside the home during the burst. police say they found a large amount of what's believed to be heroin on cross street yesterday. they found cash and more than a dozen cell phones. 31-year-old frederick diaz and 26-year-old leonardo leger are facing d antoinette: this morning, we are hearing from a woman who survived a very close call in her home which is on the dedham-west roxbury line. a pickup truck barrelling right into her bedroom. and as newscenter 5's david bienick shows us, one move may have protected her from that sudden impact. reporter: in 75 feet, it ripped off a corner of the house and veered off next door.

reporter: the owner had just gone upstairs to take a shower. >> i thought we were hit with a meteor. the whole house shook. reporter: the owner says his wife was still asleep in the bedroom. >> fortunately, she had rolled over to the other side of the bed. everything else had caved in was on the bed, so thank god we're all okay. reporter: even though the pickup truck driver's home is only a few feet away, it's outside boston city limits in dedham. the dedham fire department says the driver medical expert. the driver is in his 50's. an ambulance took him to beth israel deaconess medical center. doug: david, thank you. we're getting new details about that fire that ripped through a dorm at dartmouth college. students were able to pick up some of their belongings from morton hall yesterday. two firefighters were injured battling that friday night fire. they say it was even tougher to fight because of a 25-foot space under the building's vaulted roof. students are still in shock.

defects with pregnant women become infected. it has only found the virus in six mosquitos since may. this is the first time in two weeks that any mosquito with zika has been captured. antoinette: the state department is warning u.s. citizens to get out of jamaica. hurricane matthew bearing down on the island right now. haiti and cuba are also in the powerful category four storm's path. matthew is expected to pass near the islands tomorrow. mike. are we thinking it's going to strengthen, weaken? mike: it's probably as strong as it's going to be. a major category four, almost a five. it was a five, then went down. it will go back and forth. it's one mile one side or the other. it's really, really major. it's over the ocean. it's not causing an issue. the biggest problem, it's getting closer to haiti. haiti has a real flooding issue. that storm has an incredible amount of moisture with it.

one. very powerful storm. of course, the more powerful, the eye tends to be more visible. that's exactly what we're seeing this morning. where is this going? this is what we call the spaghetti plot. this is all our computer models. we put them together. you can see there's a lot of consensus where they think it's going to go. it's called a spaghetti plot because they look like noodles and go all over the place. there's consistency through here. after that point, still keeping it well offshore. after that, now it starts to go all over the place a little bit. remember, we're talking a long way down the road, next weekend. the farther out you are on computer models, the less reliable. this is one model we watch carefully. this is the u.s. model known as the g.f.s. this is friday morning. we're talking about the entire week before it's sitting here in the southeastern part of the united states. this one has been very consistent in wanting to bring it across our area and move it on through quickly.

if it does. and there's not any agreement between all these computer models. national hurricane center said let's take a few days, keep a close eye on it. haiti is going to be a big problem here. we've got a mountain range right here. we have all this water coming in. i think you'll be hearing about major flooding. this is tuesday morning at 2:00 a.m. that's where we're seeing it cutting its way through here. don't focus on the center. there's the possibility of it. once it goes beyond that, it ar friday of next week, we're talking about it off the coast of florida. so a lot of things will be happening. stay tuned. we'll be talking a lot about that for this week. here's what's happening out there right now. a lot of gray skies and really it's a circulation pattern in the upper atmosphere. big upper-level low to our west and that keeps this circulation happening here. every once in a while, little disturbances come through like yesterday and we get nice beneficial rains out of it. in the meantime, there's a lot of moisture in the air. that's why you're seeing

and worcester airport. down to 1/4 mile visibility right now. so be cautious about that. here's the view from our city cam. gray day. 54 degrees. dew point 53 degrees. they're almost matching each other. that's a good sign you'll be getting some fog into the forecast. as you're stepping outside this morning, not very warm. we'll call it 60. i'm being optimistic. it may be stuck in the upper 50's for highs today. clouds out there. a little patchy drizzle off and on through much of the not far behind it. on monday we have showers back in the forecast. we start with gray skies, a little drizzle. during the afternoon, it looks like a better opportunity for seeing showers to develop across the region. after that one moves through, we start to slowly, ever so slowly, clear things out. tuesday's partly cloudy. wednesday and thursday is sunshine, plenty of sunshine even into friday. perhaps another chance of scattered showers next saturday. but that still is not even associated with matthew. we have to wait for a little bit

along the east coast. doug and antoinette? antoinette: mike, thank you. now to some of the stories we're following right now on the eyeopener. doug: protests in los angeles after police shoot and kill an 18-year-old after a chase. it started when officers spotted a car with paper plates and tried to stop the driver believing that vehicle was stolen. the driver failed to stop and at some point during the chase he got out of that car and took off running. that's when he was shot. police say they recovered a weapon at the scene. antoinette: a 6-year-old boy shot at his elementary school doctors in south carolina say jacob hall lost too much blood. the 14-year-old suspect killed his father, then he drove to townville elementary and opened fire. another student and a first-grade teacher were also injured. a motive for the shooting has not been released. doug: have you seen this dramatic video out of texas? just released surveillance video the moment a school bus flipped over in harris county.

framingham. police say they found marylynn martin and edward griffin inside the hayes street home on friday night after a call came in from a concerned neighbor. martin was hiding inside a closet. police found a number of needles and syringes on the pair, including one that had just been used. right now, police are still looking for the gunman who shot two people in dedham. we brought this to you as breaking news yesterday morning right here on the eyeopener. both victims recovering this morning after being shot the moseley's on the charles event center. no arrests have been made. the hall was hosting a birthday party at the time of the shooting. doug: new this morning, officials in lynnfield are considering a ban on companies like air bnb after a deadly shooting earlier this year. a 33-year-old man was shot and killed at a mansion that an owner rented out for a college reunion. they will propose a ban on rentals for fewer than 30 days

? ? just keepin' it weird. the 2016 smart fortwo. city smart. doug: welcome back. it's 8:44. officials say people in southern california should be on heightened alert for the chance of a major earthquake. that alert follows a series of small tremors along the san andreas faults. these warnings are issued once or twice a year. new information this morning about the deadly commuter train crash that injured more than a hundred people in new jersey. federal investigators saying structural concerns at that

possible presence of asbestos are complicating their investigation, but they do know that there were no problems with the signals before the station. one woman was killed in the crash. the train's engineer has been interviewed, but the ntsb isn't providing details on that. antoinette: caught on camera, a woman is run over while pumping gas just outside of charlotte, north carolina. you can see that pickup truck slamming right into the car there, sending the woman flying. amazingly, she has only minor injuries, and she i be okay. police say the driver tried to run away but three men held him down until police arrived. >> tried to take a few steps like he was trying to get away. >> and you did what? >> i just took his legs out from under him and we jumped on top of him. antoinette: police say the driver didn't realize what he did. he was under the influence of pain pills when the crash happened. he's charged with dwi and assault with a deadly weapon.

wankum. mike: so far the tropical season has been relatively quiet, but matthew is a powerful storm and it's holding its power together. it maintains its status as a category four storm. when you look at these storms, you need to take them apart a little bit. a lot of times we focus on the eye. that's only 30 miles wide. that's where the winds are perfectly calm. the eyewall is where you find your strongest winds. that's where we're seeing wind gusts of 150 sustained winds of 150 miles per hour. outer bands, spiral bands, are basically groups of thunderstorms. you have heavy, heavy rain with it. as hurricanes go, this is not a terribly big one. it's only about 250 miles across, but it will likely get much larger, especially as it comes northward, it tends to expand out a little bit. our spaghetti model where we plot our computer models and say where is this going. a lot of consistency pushing it

down the road. this is next friday night, early saturday morning, you see what happens. there's a lot of spread in the computer models at this point. the farther out, the less reliable the forecasts. that's why we keep a close eye on it as we get closer and closer and closer to it. here's the u.s. model, the g.s.f. yesterday it brought this thing right over top of us. now it's trying to veer offshore and then eventually get wrapped into a low-pressure system the trend is to lean it more offshore. that's going to go back and forth. this is the european model. what it's doing now is saying it's going to sit down here and park itself. so this is next monday at 8:30 in the morning. it's still way down here. yesterday if you were watching, it was going to kick it out to sea away from us. you have to keep a close eye on what's happening. the national hurricane center says it's a category three moving through haiti. remember i said it's got a lot

that's going to cause flooding issues. it may become a category two as it comes off the coast of florida, but we're talking about next friday before this happens. a lot of gray skies around the area today has nothing whatever to do with that storm. we do have a lot of circulation in the upper atmosphere keeping this unsettled weather with us. it's going to be tuesday now before we really start to clear things off, and that's going to be a slow process. great view over the city. cloudy, drizzle, a few showers, but not nearly the rain we saw yesterday. tonight, patchy drizzle. 52 to 56 degrees. see these temperatures right now? they almost don't budge the next couple of days. upper 50's to 60 degrees and perhaps a better chance we could see some rain tomorrow afternoon. today, it's cloudy and drizzle. 60 degrees. most of the drizzle is this morning. this afternoon, it may be overcast and relatively dry, relatively. as far as your monday is concerned, looks like some scattered afternoon showers are a possibility. the morning is going to be gray
