bowdoin avenue more than a mile away. erika: new developments in the mystery at sea involving this man. investigators plan to meet today to discuss the case of nathan carman and his missing mother. sera congi live with the latest steps. sera? sera: erika, this spans new england and several law enforcement agencies including the coast guard. all are investigating nathan carman, the rescued at sea after he says his boat took on water. right now, they're looking into weather he was operating the boat unsafely. his mother, linda, was with him and is now presumed dead. rhode island police are investigating her disappearance. they along with state and federal law enforcement searched her home last week as well as nathan carman's home in vermont. now, carman has said that he's not responsible for his mother's death or the boat sinking.

sox worker. susie korzec designed one of the 34 big papi billboards you'll see around the city to honor ortiz and her father. korz korzec loved the team. that changed in 2006 when her father died and the sox became a painful memory. the next year, david ortiz helped change that. >> that season what 2007. i kind of like to belve dad's reassurance to say you can still be with them. i will be there with you. the team still means something. erika: the billboard is signed thank you from one of her father's letters. we've had sticker shock at the pump, but it went too far for one couple. randy: the outrageous charge they had to fight on their credit card.

bracing for some serious impact as this powerful category four storm barrels toward them. hundreds of shelters now set up the there. in jamaica, the storm expected to make landfall sometime tonight. erika: cindy, you've been watching this from the start. cindy: category four, it's weakened difference -- exactly. the center is south of jamaica, south of haiti, but it's drifting northward. it's going to be tonight when it makes landfall. already the outer bands are affecting that area. it's a huge storm. i want to step you through the track right now. even though there's a good distance away, we have hurricane warnings up all the way toward the turks and caicos, eastern cuba. tonight, it's getting closer to southwestern haiti where in

there could be isolated amounts close to 40 inches. we've had just over 20 inches this entire year. incredible rainfall expected. the winds damaging as well. you can see as we get toward tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m., that's when it will be in eastern cuba. from there, we're talking the middle of the week by the time it's up to the bahamas. friday evening, it's probably going to be somewhere off the coast of florida. this is a very slow-moving storm system and beyond this point, there's a lot o with our computer models exactly where it is going to go, but the east coast is really still on guard with this thing as many of our computer models are serving it out to sea, but there are some that are giving it a close brush here in southern new england. so this is something we're going to be watching very closely. it's trending offshore with a lot of our computer models but something we need to watch. if there were any impacts here, they would come in next weekend. we have plenty of time. we got some rainfall over the

of an inch for the month, above normal for a change, but our deficit for the year still 10 inches behind. not looking for much rainfall today. the exception will be outside of 495 where we could see showers popping up this afternoon. not out of the question, a little rumble of thunder. we have an upper-level low sitting and spinning to the west. the piece of energy is rotating around that. you see a few showers approaching western connecticut now. as we get into the afternoon, that will fuel more storms. nothing more than a patch or two of visibility just over two miles in worcester right now. not as big of an issue around boston. the temperatures are in the 50's. we're starting out a little bit cool. i have higher hopes for the temperatures today than the weekend. by lunchtime, low to mid 60's. notice how the clouds break today for some sunshine. that may be enough to push it up around 70 in the merrimac valley. better today. more clouds than anything else. breaks around lunchtime. early this afternoon, notice

worcester county, one or two showers popping up. again, the threat for an isolated thunderstorm. most of the action is focused over the interior. during the evening and overnight hours, winds pick up over the ocean. we're falling back into the 50's. tomorrow we're back in the 60's. improvements come tomorrow late in the day. we start murky tomorrow morning with drizzle around. but notice as we get through the afternoon, the clouds thin out and by late afternoon clearing skies. sunshine. remember what that is? that's coming our way toward wednesday, thursday, friday, and next weekend on saturday. front likely coming through. that front could help steer matthew offshore. next weekend's forecast clearly hinges on what matthew does. randy: we had rain this weekend. cindy: winding down slowly. randy: foggy this morning, folks. you can't tell from this shot
