matthew's impact as u.s. officials evacuate hundreds of employees and their families from the naval base at guantanamo bay. the national weather service say it is still too early to say the affect on the united states. and while the impact on the island nations and the caribbean is expected to be serious, some are optimistic. >> the resilience of jamaicans will be demonstrated at the end of the episode. hurricanes we have seen in recent history. the national hurricane center says it will likely miss florida, but a direct impact cannot still be ruled out. as you said, a state of emergency now in effect in that state just as a precaution. heather? heather: av is tracking -- aj is tracking the storm. >> it is probably one of the more powerful hurricanes we have seen in the atlantic in

>> last time jamaica had a direct impact from a category 3 or better was in 1988. heather: i know the folks here are wondering will it be an impact on the northeast? >> that's the big question. everything is in the cards right now. take a look at the satellite loop. you can see clearly that this has a big, powerful eye and an eye wall surrounding it. i'll take you for a brief tour. this is kingston, jamaica. it is expected to we have a big local connection to haiti so we are watching this closely. we'll zoom out a little bit. we'll show you this is a category 4 hurricane. it is trucking off to the north. it will clip the western side of haiti and the eastern side of cuba. it is likely to pass to the east of jamaica. it is still a big impact there. let me show you the different models we are talking about here.

there is a lot to talk about. first and foremost let's talk about the here and now. we have scattered showers and thunderstorms. we will come in tighter along the pike. looks like we have a thundershower -- actually just passing to the eastern side of palmer right now. these are potent downpours and we have another one toward south hampton and they are snea t decent rainfall. we have had close to half an inch of rainfall, am hurst and close to half an inch of rainfall. and that has come down on short order. expect visibility to be dropping pretty quickly down there. no problems in boston right now. it is gorgeous. 64 degrees and a little cool though. that's because we have a wind out of the east at 10 miles per hour. the pressure is holding steady

right now the temperatures area wide are cooler along the coastline. 64 worcester and 69 in orange. down in the cape and island mid60s down there. the water temperatures are in the lower 60s. that's important because with the wind coming in off the water the coastal temperatures will mimic the temperature in the water. here is what we have going on right now. if you look carefully do you see the spin going on? there is an area of low pressure that has caused these te cold air a lot of and warm air at the surface. the warm air wants to rise and in some cases isolated thundershowers. the high pressure will be building in tonight and that means a couple of things. dryer weather, but it also means that wind persistently is coming in out of the north and east. and it also means patchy fog and areas of drizzle later tonight. 50 to 57 degrees on average for tonight's lows.

starts to weaken the high pressure will come in off the water. i think we eventually win out. let's take you through times as we head through this evening and tonight. we will advance it even farther and through about 6:00 tomorrow morning. drizzle especially along the coastline. we'll start to see the sunshine bleed through the and in toward the afternoon and the evening. it is looking very, very nice as we see the sunshine start to build in. the temperatures tomorrow are 50s and 60s. that's about it. checking the tropics real quick of course all eyes are on matthew with 140 mile per hour winds. hurricane warnings are in effect for portions of the caribbean. watch as the track takes it northward and by friday it is still off florida. new numbers coming into the weather center the next few

six months and older should get a flu shot by the end of october some immunology experts say it is better for those over the age of 65 to wait. they have a tougher time responding and the vaccine wears off faster for that age-group. the board that advises the cdc on i'm mu nation says -- i'm mu nation say antibodies decline as time goes by and seniors are the ones primarily affected. they suggested greater immunity to the virus later in the season. >> either way federal health officials say an early flu shot is better than no flu shot at all. i will go out on a limb and say talk to your doctor. they may have a different idea. there is a lot of controversey. ed: when you use the word jab -- jab. heather:i watched him react.

gloucester's police chief has been fired. jc: this comes after the chief was put on leave last month. julie mcdonald is live in glaiser with break -- live in gloucester with breaking details. julie? reporter: it is what the city calls disturbing allegations with two women whom he had relationships. both of those women told the city they were in fear. his termination, the mayor says, is based on what happened next. an inves allegations began which would be largely based on leonard's city owned cell phone. he told the mayor it was in his locked office in the police department, but it ended up overnight at his attorney's office in everett. he suggested to investigators that someone from the police department broke into the office and then mailed the phone. surveillance video shows campanello himself mailing the phone. when the city obtained it, the
