matthew is moving toward the u.s. and as aj has been talking about, the path is not clear yet. >> ben: everybody up and down the east coast is watching this. >> it is clear through the bahamas at least and then it spreads out. scattered storms are moving across the pike and to the east of am hurst. you can see they are producing some lightning in the past hour or so anden there is a quick burst and maybe a down burst of heavy rain as well. as we slide off toward the north and the east here, we are going to find more in the way of scattered showers and thundershowers working through concord and heading toward manchester. these will fizzle out as we head through the evening and the overnight. a very powerful hurricane matthew continues to spin just south of haitiy with winds of 140 miles per hour sustained. i'll have the latest on this

>> you're watching newscenter 5 at 5:30. jc: protests in south los angeles after the fatal shooting of a black man. crowds of demonstrators shutdown intersections and jumped on to cars and vandalized businesses. 18-year-old shot when he ran from a routine traffic stop. security video shows snell carrying a gun and turning toward the police. that video has not yet been released. >> ben: fire officials are are looking into a fire that killed a man. the flames forced the evacuation of the apartment building in seabrook. they thought everyone escaped, but they found the victim after searching the victim and

thunder passing over the pike. these are all drifting down to the south. we also have a few more up through cheshire county let's shift gears and talk tropics. we have hurricane matthew and we have been talking about this for days and days now. we will continue to talk about this for another week or so. that's before this finally tries to head out to sea over the atlantic. and the rainfall from this is going to be incredible across sections of haiti and into the bahamas. this says four inches plus. we are talking more in the order of 10 to 20 inches of rainfall. it is a slow moving system and there is nothing to grab it just yet.

by thursday it is in the northern bahamas. just offshore from florida and from there heading up to the carolinas. notice the carolinas are in this cone of uncertainty. it may head over land and it may try and head farther out to sea. we just don't know at this point . what we will be doing and what the national weather service is going to be doing is launching extra weather balloons all week long to get more into the weather models in the hopes that it will help things out. in the meantime, the jet stream, the midand upper levels will be crucial to determining where matthew goes. matthew over the coast of florida or just offshore and we have a couple of players here. high pressure is over the anchored seaboard and a low-pressure system is moving through the high plains. what this creates is an area where the two converge and take it into southern new

if it is flat it will fling it farther out to sea and out to the south meaning less of an impact. still some, but less than an impact. the more impactful track was if this was deeper. in other words if it digs down it would fling it into southern new england. then we are talking about a much larger impact. we just don't know at this point in terms of intensity when it is going get here and all of thoseai at this point. showers and isolated shower t thundershowers because of an area of low pressure that will be scooting out to sea. patchy drizzle to contend with throughout most of the morning hours. we will slowly clear out from northeast to southwest tomorrow. do plan on drizzle first thing in the morning. i have indicated at 6:00 in the morning it could start out drizzly. by afternoon it starts to warm
