. we will let you know if anything develops. then: the monster hurricane doing damage in the caribbean. and: there are new signs the storm is getting stronger. a.j. burnett is tracking all in the weather center. aj: the latest information shows the winds have increased definitely not good news for folks in western haiti. as the storm has intensified before making landfall. the storm coming very close to the far western side of haiti later on tonight with some catastrophic coastal surge flooding and also some high winds and heavy rainfall as well. everywhere shaded in red we have hurricane warnings posted.

this is looking at tomorrow morning. notice how slowly the storm is moving up into the bahamas by 8 p.m. on wednesday evening and then very close to florida. the track has come farther to the west. we will talk about the trends and what we are saying. this gives you an idea and our local forecast for this week and potential impacts for next week. maria: a crucial hospital in haiti, is ed: and a team right here in massachusetts, is helping to brace for the direct hit. newscenter 5's mary saladna is here with the work being done. mary maria and ben, they've : boarded up windows, dug trenches to stem the flooding, but the main concern involves the medical care that will be needed after the storm. the st boniface haiti foundation has been helping the people of southern haiti for 30 years. what started as a one room clinic it's now an 80 plus bed hospital with specialized care that serves over 2.3 million people, surgical and neonatal care, even a spinal injury

but tonight, st. boniface hospital, located in fond-des-blancs, sits in matthew's direct path. >> we're kick -- externally concern about rain. the amount of rain they're talking about, 20 to 40 inches. we anticipate massive flooding. mary: conor shapiro is the president and ceo of the foundation, which is based here in newton. contact with hospital staffers in haiti, the hopital itself should withstand the force of the storm, but its' the people living in the surroundign -- surrounding committees most at risk. torrential rains, combined with 130 mph winds and devastating storm surge, could take an enormous human toll. the hospital's 275 staffers are standing by as our rapid response teams which will hit the ground as soon as the storm passes. >> we anticipate there will be

projecting the winds in red to be over hurricane force. that passes right over the western tip of haiti, eastern tip of cuba as we head into the next couple of days. and then into the bahamas. this looks a gimme head right over the heart of the bahamas. we have been telling you about about the spaghetti plot. i have taken a few of them and i want to show you what they were doing yesterday or monday morning. this models. let's take you to the next model run after that which is this afternoon. notice how some of them in yellow have slid to the west. now i will color them green and show you the latest model runs and you can see that these have come even farther west toward florida, toward georgia, toward the carolinas. that would be bad news for the southeastern u.s. but it may be

an impact from the storm here in new england because if the storm were to pass over land and then try to come at us it would be in a weakened state because the system will be traveling over some land. definitely not set in stone. a lot of these models are trying to keep it out to see and maybe come at us as a direct hit and some are trying to take in south of new england. everything is on the table. here is the official track from the national hurricane center taking it in between haiti and cuba right the bahamas by wednesday and by thursday, this is just off the coast of florida. you can see how slow this is moving. by saturday evening, it is off the coast of carolinas. very close to wilmington and then heading toward the outer banks. it could be anywhere in that shaded area. that is the cone of uncertainty. it depends on the upper level storm pattern across the country. it depends on this guy out here.
