heather: shaun chaiyabhat reporting from the scene. we will touch back within throughout the evening. at least nine deaths are now being blamed on the massive hurricane matthew, a category for that slammed into haiti. right now it has 140 mile-per-hour wind. ed: and in cuba and the bahamas and florida, they are preparing. then it will push up the east coast. heather: tracking it, and we will have things to look out for. aj: the good news it's such a slow-moving system. it's dumping a ton of rain and wind, and the impact will be felt for a long time. haiti is still recovering from the earthquake in 2010. let's take a look at the particulars -- wind at 140 miles per hour, it's slowly limping

board. we are looking forward to it heading up the eastern seaboard as a category four storm with wind of 130-140. just off shore florida toward the carolinas, and then potentially up toward new england. anywhere in this large area is where we think this storm is going to go. it's a lot of real estate. it could pass south, overhead, or to the west, all offering different kin or showers from a nearby cold front. the orange line, heavy rain and wind. if it takes a track through the mid-atlantic, it would be a slightly weaker storm, but we would get plenty of rain and wind as well. we will have the latest track of the storm in the forecast for the rest of the week coming up. ed: the hurricane is leaving behind a mess in haiti. lots of people in massachusetts

team coverage wit continues with rhondella richardson. rhondella: this is a community center for brockton's nearly 15,000 haitians that come to the store and are frantic to transfer money. it's where they put minutes on phone cards -- they just hope for a call. >> i haven't slept at all. i've been on the phone. rhondella: patricia and all her customers know that hurricane matthew could cripple their homeland, haiti already struggling since the earthquake six years ago. >> it's really painful. good -- rhondella: the luckyrhondella: still get e-mails. when the phones work it is great news. >> they had to evacuate for an hour, and then another.

store, on apple and android. heather: breaking news and wellesley, where a man's body has been recovered from a pond after a canoeing accident. david b net is live at the scene. david: ajit has been two hours since crews pulled the man's body from the pond. take a look at this, video from sky 5 shows the very first officer to arrive on scene, one diving in with his street clothing. police say he was a landscaper, when he went out in the canoe and got into trouble. >> it is murky and there is a

so that's the big problem. david: police say the man is in his 20's or 30's -- they haven't released his name and he didn't know how to swim. they did not go into the water. ed: a five investigates exclusive. of bilking the state out of millions for services that never happened. an investigative reporter revealing that a year ago things didn't add up, and now the company and its owner are facing criminal charges. kathy: it was paid millions in taxpayer dollars since 2011 to drive people to medical appointments all across the state. now investigators say the

for services not provided and even billing for rides for people who were dead. the attorney general says it ripped off the state to the tune of $19 million. >> what we uncovered was disturbing. we saw billing for drives not provided, for people who are deceased, bills for people who didn't qualify for wheelchair kathy: 5 investigates begin looking into their practices when they abruptly stopped giving rides the thousands of clients last year. records we obtained show the company billed the state far more than any of its competitors. its billings skyrocketed from $375,000 in 2012 to nearly $16 million in 2015. the state's investigation found the owner and manager offered

in exchange for referrals so they could build the state more. >> it was an outrageous scheme, we uncovered egregious conduct,. kathy: in a statement, lawyers tell us they maintain that they did not commit any wrongdoing concerning claims submitted to the state, and it acted in accordance with state guidance. >> we will go after and hold accountable those who engage in fraudulent billing practices. when you do that, you are ripping off taxpayers money and services away from people who really need it. kathy: a primarily provided recipients for methadone recipients. three people were indicted. they face charges including larceny and filing false medicaid claims. heather: donald trump as a role model for children? kelly ayotte says this.

there is a very active policing. this is newbury street, where there was a shooting today involving police officers. ed: shaun chaiyabhat is there. shaun: this was described as a shoot out and you can see it is still very much an active scene. police have set up a secondary police line. state police were conducting a gun trafficking operation here on a home on newburgh. minutes ago, we saw ambulance coming to the scene. we also saw swat going into that home. they just came out seconds ago; no one was with them, but we do know that one person was in custody, and they are still searching for more. ed: shaun chaiyabhat, on the scene. he will stay there for us. new at 6:00, powerful images and

stranded at sea for more than a week before he was picked up by a passing freighter. his mother was also lost it is presumed dead. mary saladna reports on the moments after the rescue. mary co. this video of nathan carmine being rescued, members of the orient lucky pulled him up the co. this video of nathan carmine being ship's letter after they discovered him in a liferaft 100 nautical miles off the coast of martha's vineyard. the captain later told the port agent that he looks tired but otherwise healthy. >> he did not appear to be suffering from hypothermia or anything like that, although he was a little unsteady on his feet. they took them up, gave him some food in liquid, and contacted the coast guard. mary: when asked what ship's ley discovered him in a liferaft ha, he said he had been up with his mother when their boat developed problems and begin taking on water.

every single possibility is in the envelope through the weekend. the good news is you have time to monitor the forecast and make preparations. at this point it is too early to overreact to anyone situation. right now matthew is heading up 20 eastern tip of cuba and into the bahamas. this is a water teat storms to either maintain or weekend. the temperatures are way above 80 degrees, a difference of six degrees. there is no question that the storm will hold strength or even intensify heading for the bahamas. there's a good consensus with the models that take us into the southeastern u.s. or just offshore and will start to hook it around the coast line.

pardon the pun -- we have everything from a direct hit to a brush to a miss, anything is possible at this point. as we take a closer look at this potential track, the official track from the national hurricane center texas over the bahamas and into southeastern u.s., then curves that close to new england. but don't focus on this on impact or may not feel the impact. temperatures will slide back into the 40's overnight, mostly clear skies now but there are clouds to the west that get trapped in the atmosphere. if you are watching from western massachusetts to new york, you will likely wake up to cloud

this is some of the energy that will be responsible for guiding matthew either up the eastern seaboard, out to see, or leaving it parked off the responsible f. we just don't know. 40's is what we are certain of, a partly cloudy sky and a touch of drizzle, high pressure still building south which adds up to a nice day, but the morning hours start out with clouds and the pocket of drizzle. tomorrow. it will be patchy and quick to burn off. weather-wise, i don't want you to focus too much on matthew and get worried about it because we have a lot of nice weather coming up right through most of the rest of the week. if we do get impacted by matthew, it will likely be sunday and monday.
