we have had reports of homes being destroyed. >> matthew is taking aim at the bahamas, but people in florida are stockpiling for three days. in south carolina, a warning for those along the coast to evacuate to 100 miles inland. we have been keeping a close watch on this category four storm. >> cindy has tracking the storm. >> three. it is now north of eastern cuba. the models taking us close to florida, eventually the carolinas. there has been a shift towards the east. as we go through the weekend, now most of our models are keeping this south of our area. so there may be a lesser impact locally. we'll talk about that coming up. the temperatures out the doors 40s, some 50s on cape cod. there's a little bit of patchy

we've got a really nice day in store as high pressure is basically overhead. this will dominate our weather today, tomorrow. to the west is what's going to be the trigger to keep matthew away from us this weekend. 60 by lunchtime. low 60s at the coast. mid 60s farther inland. let's get to the roads. >> live look outside to start things this is by alston brighton. traffic is fairly light. we are watching overnight construction. construction wrapped up by 93, also by the o'neill tunnel. route three looks good. no problems on 24. construction wrapping up on 120 highland avenue.

and buss to start on schedule. >> breaking overnight, one person is hurt after this crash in revere. police say a car slammed into a child's room at an apartment building around 1:00 this morning on north shore road. the child was not hurt, nor was anybody inside the home. police say this corner is prone to accidents. >> 4:33. and right now, this man is behind bars, one of two accused in a shootout with police in boston that prompted hourslong search. this morning both are expected to face a judge on attempted murder charges. >> the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is live at that scene. >> investigators say the 25-year-old suspects opened fire on police right here in this roslindale neighborhood during what started as an undercover police operation. all of this happening yesterday afternoon during a gun

at a home on newburgh street. police say eric rosado-gonzalez and luis colon were involved. rosado-gonzalez was tracked down on south street a few blocks away. this neighborhood was put into lockdown. >> i told my kids to shut down the doors, my mother shut down the doors, go to the basement, lock down taken to the hospital as a precaution. but he is expected to be ok. both suspects will face assault with intent to murder charges. they are expected to be arraigned sometime this morning. we will keep you posted on what happens. we're live in roslindale, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. >> a teenager is in court today accused in a deadly shooting in the city of lawrence. police arrested 19-year-old

[gunshots] >> bullets flying toward a new hampshire home. one of the bullets left a hole right above the homeowner's bed in barington sunday afternoon. noah blanchard was working outside when he heard gunshots from a field that's often used for target practice. this time, the bullets came too close. one of them hitting his house. more shots whizzed by until blanchard called police, who tracked down the home and will likely face charges. >> new action against the tobacco industry. a push to get long-awaited labels on the cigarette packages. >> a bad decision here that could lead to criminal charges. we're tracking hurricane matthew this morning. storm moving towards the bahamas at this hour before it heads towards the united states.

hurricane for the past several days. it's down to a category three. but it's likely going to strengthen. now it's north of eastern cuba in the waters and headed right to the bahamas over the hours. notice the spaghetti model charts very close together parallel the east coast to florida after going through the bahamas the next couple of days and it looks like it will make a path to the north and south carolina coastline. look what has happened with the models. they backed way up yesterday, bringing this very close to southern new england. through columbus day it looks like this could stay to our south and never get up here

center kind of keeps us farther south. you can see it coming up through the bahamas today, strengthening to a category four. friday it's headed toward the east coast of florida. we have hurricane warnings up here. as we get towards friday night and saturday, that's when it should be coming through the carolinas. but by 8:00 on sunday evening, look where this is. still way down to our south. this could mean we could escape with a dry weekend here. again, this forecast is not set in stone. this i s couple of days. you can see that here as the rain makes its way through bahamas, east coast of florida, then potentially flooding rain through the carolinas as this front to the west could steer things offshore. we'll keep you posted. the skies are clear over boston. it is 48 degrees right now in town. so it's a little cool out the door this morning. we've got 30s showing up. low-to-mid 50s from the cape to

north and west. skies are clear, high pressure is nosing in. this will dominate our weather the next couple of days. the front to the west probably comes through saturday evening, saturday night. that's our next opportunity of seeing wet weather. so today is dry, winds are going to be light. notice how they turn onshore this afternoon. we're in the low 60s at the coastline. mid and a few upper 60s farther inland. you can see cloudiness burns off. into tonight and another sunny day tomorrow with temperatures chilly tonight, 30s and 40s. we recover tomorrow. i think we sneak into the lower 70s. cool alert coastline. mid 70s on friday. so a really nice stretch of weather through the end of the week and then as we get into the upcoming weekend, all eyes focus on matthew. we see it come up the coast and we see the front to the west. it looks like it may steer matthew to our south.

unclear what caused the crash. >> wellesley police are investigating a drowning at morses pond. video from sky 5 shows the first two officers on the scene late yesterday afternoon. one of them jumped into the water wearing his street clothes to search the pond. police say the victim was a landscaper who was working at a house. >> investigators found three potentially important pieces of evidence from last week's new jersey train crash. a data recorder, video recorder and the front car of the commuter rail train that slammed into a station in hoboken. the items have been sent to a lab now for analysis. last week's crash killed one person and injured more than 100. gas leak is believed to have causeded this explosion in new jersey. you can see people running from the area where the home erupted yesterday. the smell of gas, according to witnesses here, about 20 minutes before the blast, dozens of people were evacuated just in time. nobody hurt.

nathan carman off the coast of martha's vineyard. the vermont man was stranded in the ocean for more than a week before he was picked up by a passing chinese freighter. his mother is still missing and presumed dead. the captain of the freighter told the agent that nathan carman looked tired but healthy. police are investigating him for reckless endangerment. >> the harvard the dean made the request after an -- educators and students against white genocide. it call for support for donald trump. campus police have not said if they are looking into this. >> check out this half-court shot at the university of kansas. a sophomore at the school now $10,000 richer because of it. but she is not the one who took the shot.

[laughter] >> a cup of coffee. >> hurricane matthew yesterday morning at this time it was over through eastern cuba. it looks like it's going to make a run through the bahamas over the next 24 hours. winds are 15 miles per hour. this is a category three hurricane. there has been a big shift with our computer models overnight. after it grazes the carolinas, look at how most of the models are keeping this south of southern new england. not to say this is going to happen, but this is now a trend that we have seen in the latest model runs. we will look for more

this will impact us over the weeke weekend. but a big change from yesterday. you can see the center north of cuba. what's interesting is that water temperatures are so warm. mid 80s right now. as this makes its way through the bahamas, it is probably going to strengthen more. there are hurricane warnings through the bahamas and from the miami area up through west palm beach and then hurricane watches jacksonville. here's matthew. what may help us out is this frontal boundary to the west that may help to steer matthew a little bit farther offshore. in the meantime, high pressure overhead will give us nice weather the next couple of days. sunshine, 60s today. new york, d.c., it's in the 70s. you can see things pretty quiet as you get towards chicago.
