>> from boston's news leader, this is wcvb newschannel 5. >> we are tracking matthew at 7:00 as the hurricane makes its way up the southeastern coast. new video right now of damage in brevard county, florida. >> we have pictures. this from hightower beach in florida. it actually looks kind of calm. there are bands that come through and comes down in between. it does not mean by any measure this storm is over. maria: we begin tonight with harvey leonard. what do you see now?

significant action in the northeast corner of florida but it will continue to shift northward towards the van, georgia and charleston. bands of heavy rain, very powerful winds and significant storm surge all along that track. these of the hurricane warnings from south of jacksonville all the way up to the north carolina coast line. so the hurricane force winds or costs rushing the coast line up through georgia and south carolina, possibly just about and shifting eastward and weakening later in the weekend. 110 mile per hour category two storm. there will be slow weakening but very slow. then the rainfall. it looks like 10 ages plus and parts of the same area that got significant storm surge and damaging winds. a triple whammy. we will let you know more about this and our weekend weather coming up. ben: while matthew continues working up the u.s. coast.

two deaths and florida being blamed on the hurricane tonight. nichole berlie is live in the newsroom with a look at more of the damage in florida. nichole: matthew has actually washed away part of a florida highway. as more than 1 million people are without power in that state. hurricane matthew continues battering parts of florida tonight. this is near new smyrna beach. >> when you factor in this with high tide, this could be locations. >> storm surge could reach 11 feet. >major wind gust bringing down power lines and trees. almost 5000 u.s. flights canceled due to the hurricane. savanna health and had international airport closed till sunday. fort lauderdale temporarily closed, but has since reopened. so far, at least two deaths attributed to matthew.

matthew shifts north. president obama: i want to emphasize to everybody that this is still a really dangerous hurricane. >> georgia and south carolina currently in the hurricane's path. officials are urging people to evacuate especially in the coastal areas. maria: thank you. as the floodwaters start receding in haiti that death tos expected to climb as workers sift through the rubble of ravaged communities. the hurricane hitting the impoverished caribbean nation still roadbuilding from a devastating earthquake six years ago. here in massachusetts, local relief agencies are coordinating the delivery of aid to haiti. as members of the community what to get -- wait to get word from loved ones. >> the worst part is i had like

hurricane we have been talking about all week long, harvey. where's matthew know -- now? harvey: it is going to start having more of an impact in georgia in the carolinas. i first wanted to let you know because this is columbus day weekend. some of you are getting ready to head up north and that is where the colors are peaking. we have lots of color in central and western new england. now, big sporting events coming here. the looks like it will be cloudy and cool, in the 50's. we hope there is a game four on monday. of course, patriots will be in cleveland, 61 degrees on sunday. let's get back to matthew. you can follow the eye on radar. see it right over there. 110 miles per hour. from this point on, it will ever so slowly weaken. remember, hurricane force is 74

it is going to be a hurricane affecting georgia and the carolinas right to tonight and tomorrow. as it moves north, the heavy rains, the storm surge and the damaging winds all follow the storm. this tremendous swath of rain, and i cannot underscore how heavy that rain is, will continue to move northward with the storm moving 12 miles an hour. a large area of rain. plenty of hours to pile up. that is one problem. we are talking 5-10 plus inches ofai brushed with hurricane force winds up to the carolina border before his shifts eastward on sunday and begins to weaken at the same time. as for the surge, we are talking about again, 5-10 foot surge of potentially brunswick, georgia, savannah, charleston, south carolina 4-7 feet. myrtle beach, 3-6 feet. up to north carolina, ron

it coincides with low tide or high tide. at low tide minimizes it. high tide compounds the potential problem. that is what you see some areas much more affected than others with the storm surge. 63 in boston. a light wind with incredible gorgeous day. hope you got a chance to enjoy some of it. and we have got a tranquil overnight. some patchy clouds may try to work up from the south. some clouds at times tomorrow but another mile day. i think it will be rain free du t from matthew -- not the whole storm -- will try to ride northward. and that is how we can get rain overnight saturday night or during the day sunday. especially sunday morning with the emphasis on eastern, southeastern mass and cape cod. i can show you this. see the clouds thickened saturday. overnight saturday into sunday, some rain. it's mostly southeastern mass and the cape.
