are seeing the center of matthew way down off the north carolina coast, but look what it is doing -- it is sending a plume of moisture up our direction and focusing on this cold front. so what is happening as we get the downpours going on and that is what will happen most of the day. as you look to the north shore, we see some nice downpours into the city of boston. this is where we see our heaviest stuff and look at the cape -- and you downpours, you are in a tropical system. to the south, more moisture trying to lift out. it's not rain all day, but it will be drippy all day. you can see the downpours out there. we get another area of rain developing, but nothing going on in the western part of the state. still, we get nice rains across

two inch totals as we look toward the island. we'll talk more about the rain total and how the heavy rain will be falling as well the sunshine returns. shayna: we are falling -- following breaking news -- a child is recovering after being shot on a playground in rockford. doug: we have new information in overnight. reporter: a nine-year-old child recovering from a gunshot wound after being injured in early-morning hours. li is responsible. here is what we know. the victim is a nine-year-old child, a little child shot just after 1:00. she was with several other people off annunciation road when it happened. police do not know whether gunshots came from but at least one of the bullets hit the girl. they are asking anyone with

one. there are too many guns on the street. it's time for everyone to pull together and help us solve this. reporter: here is the good news -- the girl is alert and was talking to police before she was transferred to the hospital. she is expected to recover. anyone with information is asked to give police a call. doug: we also have breaking news this morning -- police a train this morning near talbert avenue in dorchester. police say foul play is not suspected. shayna: breaking news out of california -- the man accused of killing two people -- two police officers and injuring two others in palm springs is in custody. one of the officers killed was the mother of a four-month-old baby and the other on in overtime shift. a woman called police to say or

man they say is a suspect in an attempted sexual assault. police say he attacked a woman from behind in the mission hill neighborhood yesterday morning. it happened in fitzgerald park. he was seen riding a mountain bike in that area. anyone with information is asked to call boston police. doug: everybody policy for a moment and rejoice -- the day patriots fans have done waiting for -- tom brady is on the roster as a take on the browns. ed: in a matter of hours, that stadium will be cheering loudly for the browns but as part of that, they will also witness the return of tom brady from suspension. brady has been low-key this week. >> he looks a little younger. he looks good.

carrots. mike: that is a lonely party. shayna: i'm sticking with this guy. doug: the big question is is it going to get rained out? mike: there's a lot of things that will play into this. we have showers out there and the downpours. you know how it is -- they hold off on deciding whe t game, but we do have some rain that will be around. right now, temperatures are in the 50's. there is a cold front sitting right here. most of the rain will be focused here but a lot overrunning this. if you asked me yesterday, i would say the rain would stop through worcester but you can see what's happening.

to figure out how they started. reporter: take a look at the damage caused by the fire overnight. not much left on the inside. the owner of the suv says pieces of glass from the jeep land across the street. she and her husband had not been asleep long before her neighbors came to the house banging on the door to tell them about the fire. engulfed by flames. reporter: at one point, she says the flames shot up as high as 12 feet. the fire damaged part of their home. police say their trunk was not the only vehicle fire a are investigating. in the span of 40 minutes, they found 10 vehicles damaged by fires in tyngsboro. >> i was in bed and i heard

doug: we continue to track what was matthew -- the storm no longer a hurricane and moving off into the atlantic. hundreds were killed in haiti. officials are trying to gauge the extent of the destruction but aid convoys are finally starting to arrive. shayna: heartbroken by disaster

holding a fundraising drive yesterday, collecting food and bathroom supplies. they were named after 18 from rutland killed in the haiti earth quake in 2010. they are holding another donation drive tomorrow morning. another local group volunteering with the relief effort. they are heading now, loading up supplies into a truck and began their drive, taking along 20 of tarps and generators. doug: new data is suggesting just how much matthew left behind. the hurricane could end up costing $4 billion in insured losses. the firms estimate covers storm

to account for 90% of insurance claims. shayna: matthew really left its mark. mike: had that thing gone 20 miles more inland, the damage would have been five or six times more. it was looking like it was going to loop in and had toward the bahamas but right now, it looks like it is going to go straight offshore. right now, there is where it's at. it's actually off the coast of north carolina, way off to the south. winds at 75 miles an hour with the center located here. a plume of moisture is working its way up the coast. the cool front gets in just the right place and we suck in that moisture over the top. over the next couple of days, it will head to ease. this thing was monstrous and

surfers are looking forward to that. the plume of moisture working its way up tracking the cold front. the heavy rain will be down by that front but as you look across the area, we see some nice downpours through the city. i know it's not welcome on the weekend but we need the moisture and if we can get it, we will take it wherever we can. we have a bit of you are really picking up some downpours. and there is more offshore. it's going to pin up here and it will take a while to get through. the western part of the state, gray skies, but it's not going to get there. it's going to cut its way off to the west.

its way eastward but there still should be scattered showers going on. overnight, the skies clear way and it's going to be a cold one. lows dropping into the upper 30's. then we kick it out of here and get the sunshine and that will help our temperatures tomorrow. heaviest rain from marshfield to this is where we will see our heaviest rain. beyond that, a quarter of an inch but every drop helps. 57 degrees and wind out of the north. some downpours tonight and clear and chilly inland.

through the afternoon. even though this is not tropical in nature, we are talking about the cool northerly wind ushering in cooler temperatures. temperatures are not going to go anywhere this afternoon. tuesday morning, we start out with lows in the 30's. right now into the 30's. by afternoon, really a beautiful day. thursday is not bad, but a slight chance of showers. today is probably the best chance we have had for rain almost the entire summer, so just enjoy it. i know it is sunday but many of you will have the monday holiday off. shayna: a cheerleader one football player did not expect showed up at a football game.

education of student needs -- students with special needs across the commonwealth. at the core, deep disparities in the way school districts negotiate private settlement agreements to pay for the education of students with special needs. the vast majority of these settlements are found in wealthier school district and although the funds are provided by public tax dollars, these school districts fight hard to keep information private. oneen battle in the town of weston, arguing the financial details should be part of the public record. the supreme judicial court of massachusetts agreed and when these settlements were opened, it was revealed every agreement was different and some parents negotiated a much better deal than others. a free, appropriate public education is guaranteed by law and while the plans may be

individual situations and needs explain disparities to some degree, but public disclosure allows transparency to have that discussion and examination. most important, tax dollars are legislated to support all students, not just those whose families have more information
