will last a longtime. many roads were washed out. this is north carolina including this one where a pick up driver needed to be rescued as he plunged off a street that was torn up. one of the largest rivers is expected to crest tonight and may make the flooding worse. i was in north carolina this weekend, but farther to the west. the effects were still even at hundreds of miles away. >> north carolina. the rain and the wind and the storm surge. and we had meaningful rain. in many ways matthew was beneficial to us. it did enhance the rain we otherwise would have gotten. taunton two inches and glaiser two -- glusser two inches. then we had these wind gusts and nantucket 58 miles an hour.

there were reports of wind damage in the idea of tree limbs and trees coming down. we would have had some rain and wind and even though matthew was hundreds of miles south it did enhance what happened here. in the wake of that and everything else it has been so clear and dry today. still gusty winds. down to 53 and that's a thousand feet up. here is an idea we will you. that is going to be dying down. with the clear skies and the very dry air and the light winds that will be around it allows us to get cool. mount washington is 23. it was sleeting on top of mount washington. remember it was getting chillier here and not cold enough for that. for the red sox starting in less than an hour, 55 degrees

but still a twenty mile per hour wind making it feel chillier. the temperature could drop into the upper 40s by rt start of the game. many 30s overnight. chilly enough for freeze watches except the immediate shoreline and the cape and islands. protect the plants. then a nice bounce back after the chilly start. sea breezes for into the 60s and the high pressure will be in firm control so expect a lot of sunshine. it will be a nice day around here. the next change will be a cold front that will approach on thursday. we'll get some increasing clouds. there may be a shower or two, but everything indicates it will weaken as it moves east.
