we'll have his emotional last game in just a minute. 5:00 a.m. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm randy price. emily: i'm emily riemer along with cindy fitzgibbon. what a moment. i get a little -- oh, my gosh. it will warm your hearts on a very cold morning. cindy: yes, right. emily: you were even joking, you might want to dig out the scraper. cindy: definitely some frost away from the coastline. this is the time of year we come to expect it. every year, you're like, emily: it's a surprise every year. cindy: it is cold this morning. frost advisories up here in the suburbs just away from the coastline. as you get deeper into worcester county, it is a freeze warning, and for sure we've got these temperatures that are running already below the freezing mark, and a couple hours yet that i think we'll drop a couple more degrees here. 31 in jaffrey. 30 orange. 29 in keene. worcester itself, we're in the 40's. boston as well. below freezing in bedford. likely frost out through this

at freezing in taunton and 30's sneaking down toward the south coast and across the canal. falmouth 39 degrees. a cold start this morning. skies are clear. winds a whole lot lighter than yesterday. high pressure overhead. this is going to give us a lot of sunshine today. you see back behind it milder temperatures, clouds, showers. that will wait until later in the week. wall-to-wall sunshine. sun is up at 6:53. we'll be holding in the 30's and 40's through 9:00 a.m. it's going to be late morning before we're up into the 5s so upper 50's to near 60. otherwise, 60 to 65 inland. turns into a nice afternoon. layer up. you'll want those layers heading out this morning. let's take you out to the roads. good morning, olessa. olessa: live look outside to start things off. no problems around 93. southbound side, just a few cars on this early morning. so far not seeing any issues. let's get to the maps and check out the rest of your ride. that's pretty much what you'll see across the board. no construction heading into boston. making your way south,

night as fans were chanting with one voice, all of them saying, "thank you, papi." so many of you have gone to our facebook page. and we have an image you can share. check it out. randy: one man will be facing a judge today after causing quite the scare in boston and this morning we're learning those are not the only charges he's going to be facing. sky 5 over the scene on beacon hill w p what he this thought was a suspicious package. it turned out it was a copy of the qur'an. police say the man who left it there is also accused of making threats at reagan national airport and assaulting a police officer there. 22-year-old aziz rehman osami was arrested in boston yesterday after allegedly trying to steal from a jewelry store and causing a disturbance at a shelter. he's going to be arraigned here before being returned to washington, d.c. to face charges there.

he is out of prison decades earlier than first expected, and the eyeopener's nicole estaphan is live in weymouth with community reaction there. nicole: the convicted level three sex offender released from prison, now he's living in a neighborhood full of kids. jeffrey gardner was supposed to spend the rest of his life in prison. he was convicted in the 1980's in the kidnapping and rape of young boys. he was able to appeal his sentence. now h parents in the neighborhood understandably concerned. >> it's uncomfortable. there are a lot of new families, a lot of young kids. it's just not right. >> he's a bad guy who did some very bad things. i remember it very well. i remember exactly what he did and how strongly we felt about convicting him and sentencing him. nicole: that's the prosecutor who tried the case. he says he can't believe gardner is out. and take a look at this.

neighborhood. police actually put them up. they're actually flooding social media as well, warning people, especially residents in this area, about gardner's dangerous past. we're live in weymouth, nicole estaphan, wcvb, newscenter 5. emily: nicole, thank you. two people are in jail charged in the murder of this elderly man in orange. still no clue as to why thomas harty and his wife were targeted by these suspects. joshua hart and brittany smith arrested states away in virgi virginia pair was released from jail for stealing smith's grandmother's car. police have yet to release a motive for the crime, and the victims' family says none of this makes sense. >> it's a shame the thing went down like it did. he would have given him the car or the money if they asked. emily: the two suspects are held without bail in virginia. they could be back in massachusetts as early as thursday to face murder charges. randy: right now, police are

roxbury shooting that injured a 9-year-old girl. this morning there are concerns that she may suffer long-term paralysis. police are calling the violence on sunday morning a random act. the police commissioner evans tell "the herald" surveillance video shows two people getting out of a white vehicle, walking toward the party and firing recklessly. new this morning, new data shows substance abuse is the number one factor in neglect cases in the commonwealth. "the herald" is reporting that substance abuse was a factor in 30% of nearly 48,000 reports of neglect investigated between march and september. it was in march that the state started mandating social workers to track substance abuse in these specific cases. the data does not outline which specific substances were used. emily: commitment 2016 -- after being on the same stage, the presidential candidates will

pushing their message to voters, and the eyeopener's erika tarantal is tracking the day ahead and the fallout from the debate. erika: both candidates will focus on florida. donald trump is holding a rally in panama city tonight. hillary clinton will be in miami campaigning with her husband's vice president al gore. last night she wasted no time going after trump's criticism of her years of public service. >> on the day that i was in the situation room that brought osama bin laden to justice, he was hosting "celebrity apprentice." use your wcvb app. we should do it too. now it's a problem. whatever you want to do, stay warm today. cindy: pretty much. emily: i feel like i need that other jacket, the one covered in dust. randy: it's been a while. cindy: layer up. you're going to feel silly this afternoon. you won't need it. lots of layers today. we've got the frost advisory away from the coastline now, and you go farther inland, it's freeze warning. and this is out through the worcester area right now. you can see that the areas away from the coast are most impacted. this is typically what we find this time of year. the average day of the first freeze is typically november in boston, but out in western massachusetts, it's around the first week of october. average date of the first frost is not until november close to the coastline, but pretty much on target here, within a week or so, across the rest of the area.

if you didn't cover up those plants overnight or bring them inside, you can see we're dealing with temperatures below freezing in nashua. 29 in keene. city center, worcester, boston, running in the 40's. norwood down to 28. it's 32 taunton. we have 30's down to the south coast. across the canal, falmouth 39. plymouth, you're 39 degrees as well. very cold to start out this morning. the skies are clear. unlike yesterday, the pressure is pretty much overhead. southerly winds have brought up mild temperatures. we have clouds and a few showers back through the chicago area, up into the great lakes. we're watching that frontal boundary for thursday. out ahead of it, see how the temperatures come up? 56 in chicago right now. compare that to how we're starting this morning. this is the chilliest morning this week. we'll have sunshine all day long, but notice the winds by

a bit of a sea breeze today. that will hold us near 60 at the coast. you jump inland, though, 65 in nashua, 61 worcester, 64 taunton. so into the 60's this afternoon. that's why i say layering up is a pretty good idea. not as cold tonight. mostly in the 40's. a few of our coldest suburbs in the 30's. we're watching that frontal boundary advance. we'll see a few more clouds on wednesday. thursday is the day this front really starts to move on in and it will bring in just a couple of showers. but tomorrow the temperatures come up a little bit milder. closer to 70 on thursday. more clouds around on thursday morning. we get into the afternoon. we look to the west. there are the showers. a lot of them falling apart. but toward drive time on thursday, there could be a couple of showers, especially out toward worcester county. they may fall apart as they approach the coast. the only chance for rain friday. emily: i keep on waiting for an

beta blockers and calcium channel antagonists, had twice the risk of being admitted to a hospital with a mood disorder such as severe depression. now, on the other side, people taking ace inhibitors have a lower risk of developing severe mood disorders. if you use working out to relieve stress, new research says you might want to cool dow emotionally, i'm talking about. the study found heavy exertion while stressed or mad tripled the chance of a heart attack within the hour. the risk was highest between 6:00 p.m. and midnight. researchers looked at more than 12,000 people suffering from a first heart attack. 3/4 of them men. >> it sounded like a bottle rocket. it looked like the jet from a bottle rocket just shooting out.

before his samsung phone exploded. that's timothy irving. he says he last charged his galaxy note 7 hours before that. it burned the couch, the floor. it simmered for about an hour, and he wants to hear more from the company. >> do you think that they've done enough to warn customers? >> no, not for something like this. no way! because it's an uncontrolled explosion. emily: his phone was part of the original recall which samsung has now stopped production of replacement phones of those catching fire as well. a check of the markets now. asian shares were mixed following a plunge in samsung stocks. stock futures right now are lower. investors awaiting the release of the monthly labor market conditions index that is due out today. some people are just better at saving money than others. randy: but if you want to be in that group, there are a few things to keep in mind, like putting away at least 15% of your gross income. maybe that means eating more meals at home.

emily: doug, thank you. now to some of other stories we're following right now. randy: erika is tracking the stories as they come in. erika: a 22-year-old man is preparing to face a judge after a scare at the state house. police say it was a false alorm. aziz rehman osami was wanted at reagan national airport. he's due in court. these two suspects will be facing a judge in virginia tomorrow. this morning police say they don't know a man in orange and seriously hurt his wife. they were arrested the day before the crime for stealing his car but were released. hillary clinton and donald trump both headed to florida today, clinton unveiling a new plan involving a child tax credit. randy: there's an investigation this morning after a man drove three miles the wrong way on the massachusetts turnpike. it ended when he a hit a median barrier right near exit 17,

the eastbound lane around the alston-brighton tolls. he was taken to the hospital after the crash. police say there was another crash as drivers tried to avoid his wrong-way vehicle. no one was hurt there. this man is facing a judge today charged in connection with the death of a toddler. leo witham is accused of purposely leaving the child alone. the 19-month-old died wednesday in an apartment in hampn. investigated. emily: 5 on the opioid crisis. new numbers showing nearly 300 people have died from drug overdoses in new hampshire so far this year. of those 280 overdose deaths, 191 are blamed on fentanyl or other drugs mixed with fentanyl. 89 cases are now pending toxicology results. hundreds of police reports are missing in texas and california, but a new study says those

a lot more clouds. a chance of a few showers. that's it. we dry things out for the weekend. >> we called the fire department and nothing would go through. emily: a texas man couldn't reach his brother trapped by floodwaters in north carolina. as a joke, he sent him a photo of a severely flooded street with the message, at least it isn't this bad. it turns out that that photo is the street where craig williams' brother lives. he was through twitter, craig was able to communicate with a drone operator who helped guide them to the home where he was trapped. >> i'm kind of like, is he messing with me right now? i was kind of in disbelief. i mean, it worked. there's the drone hovering right in front of me. emily: chris williams says he was trapped in that attic for about 14 hours. randy: a missing florida girl has been found safe 800 miles

erika is tracking the new fallout in the presidential race. emily: we'll get to those stories. first, cindy has a look at your chilly forecast. cindy: we see a lot of blue behind us here. these are frost advisories and freeze warnings that are up here about 8:00, 9:00 this morning. today's a day i encourage you to dress in layers. if you're bundled up out the door this morning, which you'll want to be, you'll be walking around this afternoon sweating. emily: you've been warmed. nd warnings up. here's a closer look. it's away from the coastline that we're dealing with this. this is not all that unusual. to see a freeze out worcester area this time of year is pretty close to average. we typically do that on october 15, so the middle of october. it's usually, though, deeper into november before that happens around the boston area. and this is a freeze, not a frost. a lot of the suburbs have already seen a touch of frost and i expect a lot out there this morning.

cruiser and crashed into seven more cars. he is in critical condition in the hospital and he will face five counts of murder. randy: the two people charged in the murder of an elderly man in orange will face a judge tomorrow in virginia. that's where joshua hart and brittany smith were arrested. they're being held without bail. they could be back in the commonwealth as early as thursday to face murder charges in the death of thomas harty. emily: a toxic algae o buzzards bay and mount hope bay. this affects all south coast towns and cities. it can cause amnesic shellfish poisoning with symptoms including stomach sickness and incapacitating headaches. that area will reopen once the bloom dissipates. randy: a new study shows hundreds of police departments in texas and california did not report officer-involved shooting deaths in the past decade. this report finds registries created by the two states to

31, keene 28. same deal in taunton. 30's down in the south coast. plymouth 38. 39 in falmouth. you get the idea. it's cold outside. the skies are clear and high pressure is right on top of us, which means the winds are going to be a lot lighter than yesterday. sea breeze settles in before lunchtime. we'll be coolest at the coast today. near 60 degrees. jump inland, 64 nashua. 60 to 65 farther inland. tonight not as chilly. a few of our coldest suburbs in the upper 30's. tomorrow, winds turn southeasterly. watching this front off to the west. limited moisture. it will come through thursday evening, thursday night. doesn't look like a whole lot of rainfall here with this. probably under 1/10 of an inch for most of us. those showers come in on thursday. could be some drizzle and clouds. we may try to brighten up.
