wednesday night into their state. this is forecast to become a category two hurricane once again, before making landfall in bermuda. there is nicole down to the south. to the north over us, lots of sunshine. cool nights and mild temperatures ahead in the forecast.i will share that with you in a few moments. heather: heather: devastating images out of north carolina, as rescues continue in areas hit hard by hurricane matthew, and the death toll from that storm, still rising. 30 people have been killed in the u.s., half of them in north carolina. were washed by flood waters, and another man's car was struck by a tree. thousands of people are being urged to get to higher ground right now, with dams and levies breaking, sending rivers to record levels, spilling over their banks. >> it terrified me to death. i have never in my life seen so much water, so click. heather: some rivers are expected to stay at major flood stage at least through the end of the weekend.

matthew last week are still waiting for food, medicine and fresh water to arrive. the u.n. estimates that nearly one and a half million people in haiti need assistance and the humanitarian agency has made an emergency appeal for $120 million to help save thousands of survivors at risk of starvation or cholera. ed: right now at 4:30, a roxbury shooting that injured a 9-year-old girl. there are now concerns she may su on sunday morning a random act. commissioner evans tells the herald surveillance video shows two people getting out of a white vehicle walking toward the party and firing recklessly. mayor walsh calling the suspects cowards police are still pleading for the public's help in making an arrest. >> we've got good video on that. we have not made an arrest yet, but i know they are working very hard on this. just a cowardly act, shooting into a playground.

ed: police are pleading for the public's help to find the suspect. heather: the 80-year-old westwood man who drove the wrong way on the mass pike will be cited for neglient operation of a motor vehicle, and main violations. he was taken to st. elizabeth's hospital for possible minor injuries after the cadillac he was driving struck a median barrier yesterday near exit 17 in newton. tonight, there will be a ghost bike ceremony to honor a man killed while riding his bike in cambridge. dr. bernard lavins died last week a ghost bikes are painted white and are put up to remind riders and drivers to think about safety. there ceremony will be at 7:30. ed: new at 4:30. churches in massachusetts fighting against the state's new law protecting transgendered people in bathrooms. four churches have filed a federal lawsuit saying there is no exemption for religious institutions. they argue that all events held on their property are for religious purposes and the government should not intervene. attorney general maura healey has said she expects no issues

here's the latest satellite radar. quiet, clear skies all across the northeast. a little batch of clouds working through toronto, pennsylvania, through cleveland, ohio. these will enter the picture overnight tonight. part of the reason why temperatures will not be quite as chilly. this acts like a bit of a blanket effect, keeping the heat for the earth. also, milder air. low temperatures tonight into the 30's and 40's, but no 20's. mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. high-pressure slipping off shore. that allows for clouds to filter in. it turns a little bit milder tomorrow. then, we watch the next cold front, not until thursday, with a couple of scattered showers. 50's for highs tomorrow. sunshine with a few clouds.

the south and east. tomorrow, clouds and sunshine, not quite as right. still a nice day. through thursday, a lot more clouds entering the picture and scattered showers. not everybody getting them all the time, but they will be out there. seven day forecast, a more mild day tomorrow. maybe if you scattered showers thursday. then, the weekend is looking the sunshine should stick around until at least next week. ed: a toxic algae outbreak. this halts shell fishing in buzzards bay and mount hope bay. the division of marine fisheries says the ban affects all south coast towns and cities. the toxic algae can cause a kind of shellfish poisoning with symptoms including stomach sickness and incapacitating headaches. the areas will reopen once the bloom dissipates. heather: and your health tonight, new data showing substance abuse is the number one factor in child abuse and neglect cases here in massachusetts.
