they were shot while responding to a call in east boston. the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is near that scene on gladstone street. >> she's leading our coverage this morning. >> to set the scene for you, gladstone street is behind me just down the hill here. we're about one street over from where all of this unfolded overnight. the police commissioner saying that both of those officers this morning are in extremely critical condition after responding to a domestic violence call. right now we knowh line of fire and that the shooting suspect is dead and that both of the officers are longtime veterans of the force. we are all over this story this morning and we'll be back in a couple of minutes with more on that. but, first, we want to get a first check on your forecast with cindy. good morning, cindy. >> not nearly as cold this morning as the past few mornings. we're above 50 worcester into boston. 40s in the suburbs.

few minutes in the worcester area. visibility 3/4 of a mile. i think the fog may expand. we've got a lot of low clouds. can't rule out patches of mist or drizzle thanks to an increased southerly flow bringing in the moisture. a few showers by this evening. the skies brighten toward midday. temperatures into the 60s quickly. and we'll make a run towards 70 degrees this afternoon. so it is a warm one for you. but a lot of low cloud this mog. toward the evening commute, 5:00, 6:00, out through the worcester area, 495 and eventually into a boston, a chance of a quick passing shower. let's check out your morning ride. >> a live look. by the south bay mall, construction cleared by the o'neill tunnel. traveling into your boston, you're good to go right now. no problems heading south of

that construction wrapping up on 128. southbound by route 2a down to trapello road on 128 and by route 3. >> breaking news we're following at this hour. new details in the overnight hours after two boston police officers were shot in east boston. >> we are covering all the angles. antoinette antonio is at the scene with what we know at this hour. information coming in to us overnight. right now we know that those two officers are in what the police commissioner calls extremely critical condition at mass general hospital. the suspect accused of opening fire on them is dead. let's go ahead and take a look at that video from overnight. just shortly after this wild scene unfolded here on gladstone street just before 11:00 last night, police say this started when two roommates got into some

domestic violence call. that is when one of the men opened fire on police. officers say that suspect was armed with an assault rifle and was wearing a ballistics vest. people who live in this neighborhood were told to shelter in place. those who got caught up in all of it described a swarm of police and a hail of gunfire. >> suddenly police came speeding down the street, speeding like i could hear the like vibrating. it was pop, pop, pop, pop. >> right now we don't know much about the suspect involved in this. police commissioner bill evans says he was a 33-year-old man and they are working to determine if he has a criminal history. the police commissioner pointed out that east boston is not part of the city's body camera pilot program, so at this point it's highly unlikely that any of the officers involved were wearing a camera at the time.

the heroic action that may have saved these officers' lives. let's head live to mass general hospital. sera congi is there live with the story. >> the officers here, we're told, undergoing surgery after what commissioner evans described as a fire fight. after the officers were shot, other police officers raced inside the home in east boston. exchanged fire with the suspects, dragging the two wounded officers out of the line of fire to safety and then firing more shots, killing the suspect. in the meantime, other officers applying a tourniquet to the wounded officers, one even putting his hand on the wound to try to stabilize the officers before ambulances arrived. the commissioner could not say

in east boston. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. >> it was a real shock when all of a sudden his hands were all over me. he was like an octopus. it was like he had six arms. >> breaking overnight, a growing scandal surrounding donald trump. several women saying the presidential candidate assaulted them. eyeopener's erika tarantal tracking the fallout. >> these are damaging accusations. at least five women hours accusing him of assault. the woman says it happened to her 30 years ago. jessica leeds telling "new york times" trump assaulted her on an airline flight. she says he tried to put his hand up her skirt. leeds said she starting telling her story when trump announced his run for president. miss utah says trump kissed her without consent in the '90s.

nor the wheels for some green line cars. managers say they are doing everything they can to address the issues. right now two people charged in the murder of an elderly man in orange are back in massachusetts. brittany smith and joshua hart were returneded from virginia last night. they both are accused of killing 95-year-old thomas harty in his home and injuring his 77-year-old wife. she remains in the hospital. the crime is said to be random. the pair is judge tomorrow. >> i have had this pit in my stomach for -- since it happened. >> a brockton woman mourning the loss of her mother. someone stole her mom's ashes out of her car. carolyn parker says she found her car ransacked tuesday morning. the box with the ashes empty. parker's mother died in july and she believes someone mistook the ashes for drugs.

that have come within 50 miles of bermuda. the center is shifting towards bermuda. impacts already being felt with the wind and rain. conditions will deteriorate. by 2:00 this afternoon, it will move away. rainfall is four to 8 inches and dama bermuda this morning. it will be away from us, so this is no threat to us here locally. in the meantime, we have fog that has developed in the worcester area. visibility has dropped to a quarter-mile. 52 worcester, 55 in boston. not nearly as cold this morning as the past few mornings. you'll notice that as you head out. we've got low-level cloudiness around the backside of high pressure. to the west there's a frontal

scattered in nature. this cold front marks the leading edge of much colder air. this is what's coming for the weekend. big drop in temperatures on the way. we'll see temperatures jump to close to 70 degrees today. but it is a murky start. could be drizzle in patches or fog early this morning, but brightening midday. the timeline is about 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on scattered showers. you can see through early this afternoon things are quiet. getting into the worcester area close to 5:00 this afternoon. and it moves towards boston and kind of falls apart. limited moisture with this. maybe a tenth of an inch of rain in some areas. we clear tonight. 30s and 40s for overnight low temperatures. tomorrow we're into the 50s for highs. this is a chilly air mass building in. friday night into saturday morning, freeze watch in the western suburbs.

talking to the f.b.i. about the crash. the small twin-engine aircraft crashed tuesday. the student who die in the crash has been identified as feras freitekh. the hartford courant reporting he was upset and feeling stressed over performing badly at flight school. it has not been determined who was in control of the plane at the time of the crash. investigators spent last night searching freitekh's apartment and questioning his roommate. >> 19 after the embattled head of wells fargo is out. c.e.o. john stumpf is retiring immediately. he's been at the center of the storm over the banks' sales practices. employees opened millions of accounts without customers knowing about them in order to meet sales goals. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren among several calling for a criminal investigation. the national grid customers will be seeing a credit in the upcoming bill. the power company is going to

you can look in the atlantic base. since 1851, there have been only been seven hurricanes considered major, category 3 or higher within 50 miles of bermuda. so this is a rare event. the eye about 75 miles away from bermuda. the hurricane-force winds extend out about 65 miles per hours from the center. we've had wind gusts over 60 at the airport. la by this afternoon, it is pulling away. but they are going to expect the destructive winds there a six to 8-foot storm surge. this will never bother us. we're watching a front off to the west. couple of showers this evening with this. ahead of it this morning, southerly winds brought in low clouds. a little bit of fog too. visibility in the worcester is a quarter of a mile.
