emily: breaking overnight, two police officers shot while responding to a call in east boston. their conditions this morning and how other officers put their lives on the line. randy: also breaking, several women out with new accusations against donald trump. their claims as hillary clinton faces her own emily: issues at the mbta. the green line problems that seem to be getting worse, on the eye for this thursday morning. >> i asked the public to pray for them. all the officers exhibited extreme courage.

they were shot while responding to a call in east boston. the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is near the scene on gladstone street. randy: and she leads our coverage this morning. antoinette? antoinette: the two police officers this morning are fighting for their life in what's being described under extremely critical conditions this morning after they responded to a domestic violence call. this is gladstone street right down this hill. the investigation the other officers pulled the two officers from the line of fire. the suspect is dead. the two officers who were shot are long-time veterans of the police force. i will be back with more on how all of this violence unfolded last night but first we want to head back to the studio and check in with cindy with a look at the forecast. cindy, good morning. >> good morning, antoinette, not nearly as cold this morning. look at all the 50s. 55 in boston right now, and worcester 52, but notice there is fog in the worcester area,

out for that. otherwise a lot of low clouds and can't rule out a patch or two of mist or drizzle. off to the west, there is a cold front, and this is going to give us the chance of a few showers by this evening, so in between after we burn off some of that low clouds and fog we will see the temperatures sneak up into the 60s with some brightening skies mid-day, and that will allow the temperatures to sneak up close to 70 degrees. it's a milder day today. it is a really murky we get towards early this afternoon, and then we'll watch the showers approach by 5:00. i would plan on at least the threat of a shower from 5:00 to 9:00, so some impacts here on the evening commute. now out to the roads this morning and check that morning commute. good morning. olessa: a live look outside to start things off. the lever connector. you can see the southbound side very slow heading into boston. we have got that rush hour volume in full force. over to the maps and see the rest of the ride, watching one

bit of volume but it is westbound, so hopefully won't impact your commute too much, and then as you travel the expressway, almost 30, with braintree into boston, and extra heavy delays because of late running construction, that has cleared. south of town 24 slow from brockton, 95 out of sharon, and delays on route 3 from 18 up to the braintree split, and along the pike we're in good shape, 15 minutes from 495 for 128. 93 south, volume now as you travel from methuen down into andover and approaching the lever connector. trains and buses on we're following. new details in overnight after two boston police officers were shot in east boston. >> we are covering all the angles. antoinette antonio is leading our coverage, and she is at the scene with what we know. antoinette. antoinette: emily and randy a lot of that new information coming into us overnight. we know that two police officers who were shot are currently in extremely critical condition at mount general hospital. the suspect accused of opening

at that video for not too long after this all went down on gladstone street before 11:00 last night. police say it started when two roommates got into a fight. the officers responded. that is when one of those men opened fire. police say that suspect was armed with an assault rifle and was wearing a ballistic vest. people who live in this neighborhood were told to shelter in place. those who were caught up in it describe a swarm of police and a hail of gunfire. >> suddenly the police came speeding down the street. speeding like i could hear the engines, and it was like vibrating. it was like pop, pop, pop, pop. antoinette: we don't know much about that suspect. bill evans says he was a 33-year-old man and they are working to determine if he has a criminal history. the commissioner also pointed out that east boston is not part

program. at this point it's highly unlikely that any of the officers involved were wearing one of those cameras. overnight we also learned new details about the heroic actions that the officers did to save these officer's lives. let's go ahead and head over live to mount general hospital. sera congi is standing by live with the latest on that part of the story. sera? >> those actions may have made a difference. the two officers being overnight after what police commissioner bill evans is calling a firefight. here is what happened. after the two officers were shot more police raced inside that home. commissioner evans says that they exchanged gunfire with the suspect and dragged the two wounded officers to safety firing more shots, killing the suspect. in the meantime the other officers applied a tourniquet, one putting his hands on one of

ambulances arrived. overnight the commissioner could not say enough to braise their actions. >> i am proud of the officers here. they went into a firefight here. able to pull two of their officers out safely. >> now the wounded officers have not been identified, but this is what we know about them. one had 28 years on the force. the other 12. both are men, and again, both are undergoing surgery overnight. the doctors describing the critical. and we should also say that there are nine other boston police officers treated at tufts. those injuries are minor. many of them dealing with a lot of stress after the incident that they just went through. we will bring you any updates as we get them. live at mgh, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. reporter: thank you for that, and sera is standing by at the hospital.

her story when trump announced his run for president, and former mis-- miss utah says trump kids her without consent in the 1990s. >> i remember being shocked because i would have thought to shake somebody's hand but that was his first response with me. >> she felt unsettled last friday when the tapes surfaced of trump making lewd comments about kissing were i am in 2005. also in the "new york times" article another article claims he kissed her on the mouth in the trump tower demanding "the times" retract it and apologize calling the claims libelous. >> thank you. there is in trouble for hillary clinton this morning. a 2011 exchange published by wikileaks involving a top clinton advisor mocking catholics. now it was between clinton's current communications director and a senior fellow at the center for american progress, that organization is a liberal ally of the campaign and the obama white house.

clinton to apologize and fire that advisor. now when asked about those recently published emails clinton turned the conversation to trump telling the reporters that she is all that stands between the u.s. and the apocalypse. the clinton campaign chairman john podesta blames it on russian hackers. he urges clinton to reach out to three prominent latino politicians calling them needy and saying they could be handled in one easy call. randy: a problem t is getting worse. according to the globe, seven green line trains derailed in 2015. the highest number of such accidents on lightrail lines in the country so far this year, but have derailed, including this incident. they had to walk to a tunnel to get out. a state audit was conducted in 2015, found the t was not adequately maintaining the tracks, more the wheels of some cars. the managers say they are doing

these issues. right now two people are charged in the murder of an elderly man in orange are back in massachusetts. brittany smith and joshua hart were returned from virginia last night. both are accused of killing 95-year-old thomas harty inside his home, badly injuring his 77-year-old wife. she remains in the hospital. the crime is said to be random as the pair was expected to face a judge tomorrow. new information about a deadly plane crash in connecticut. >> what happened in before. and another benefit to running the serious injury that it could help to ease. randy: an unusual way of keeping energy costs low, an idea that could be the wave of the future. cindy? cindy: we are tracking hurricane nicole, category 4, bearing down on bermuda, and watching a line of showers off to the west and a dramatic temperature change on the way. the cooler air heading into the weekend. that forecast just ahead.

emily: we are on top of breaking news, two police officers are in what is being critical condition after they were shot in east boston. we know the suspect is dead. this was the scene last night on gladstone street where this happened. those officers are getting treatment at mass general and we'll have new information all morning long on the eye and the app. >> we are having a tough time as nicole is bearing down, winds with this, this morning, in the

this is a category 4 hurricane, considered major, anything above a category 3 is considered a major hurricane. and this marks the third one of the season. the most that we have had since 2011. it is rare for bermuda to have a hurricane this strong nearby, and they get kind of frequency of smaller hurricanes, but since 1851, only seven hurricanes, category 3 or higher, have come within 50 miles of bermuda, and this is bearing down. you can see it moving steadily here the center is about 70 miles away, and the hurricane force winds extend out 65 miles from the center so they are bracing for this right now. it is going to be moving through this morning. and it may weaken as it does but it is expected to be a hurricane hitting them this morning, and then pulling away this afternoon. destructive winds. a storm surge and flooding rain on the order of five to eight inches so a tough situation there. this goes into the north

surf and swells here. in the meantime we have got fog out there this morning in the worcester area. visibility is a half a mile. and the temperatures are not nearly as chilly as you are heading out the door. mostly in the 50s. 55 in boston but we do have a lot of low clouds, and you can see on the last frame of the radar, a little indication of the moisture sneaking up. can't rule out a patch or two of drizzle towards the coast and cape with that southerly wind, but notice a line of showers off to the west. this is coming in with c front. not going to bring us much rain, maybe a tenth of an inch or so towards this evening. what it is going to do is bring a temperature change. it is colder behind this. 20s, 30s, 40s, and that's coming in starting tomorrow, so today is a mild one, despite the clouds, we jump up close to 70 degrees this afternoon. really murky to start. and then towards mid-day and early this afternoon the skies may brighten. here comes the broken line of showers getting into worcester around 5:00 and then really weakening as it gets towards the

clear. it is going to be chilly. we're in the 30s and 40s. we only recover into the 50s coming up tomorrow. the high pressure is settling in. however we are going to have a lot of sunshine but chilly temperatures on saturday morning. there is the potential for a freeze here. a freeze watch up in the western suburbs so colder air is working in, and gusty winds tomorrow, as well. the winds are going to be gusting in the morning, over 20 to 30 miles per hour. the winds settle down and the let's go back out to the roads. trouble on the tobin bridge this morning. >> we are watching this crash. the left lane is closed. this is southbound heading into boston. you have got the heavy delays there. right before the tunnel, give yourself extra travel times. the delays are starting back where the tolls used to be so give yourself extra time there, and we are watching this accident on thorough by the lever connector. traveling north of there, 93 southbound, heavy as you approach boston and north of

around the spot pond. more delays with the crash on 495 south, and then as you travel the pike, so far 15 minutes from 495 to 128. 24 is slow. route 3 from weymouth, and the ride on the expressway is 30, braintree into boston, trains and buses are doing ok. emily: we are learning more about a fight in a cockpit in connecticut. the flight instructor who survived, adrian the small twin engine aircraft crashed on tuesday and the student who died has been identified as feras freitekh. he was upset and feeling stressed over performing badly. it's not been determined who was in control of the plane at the time of the crash. investigates spent last night searching his apartment and questioning his roommate. randy: 6:18, canadian researcher found that running can repair

sheer originality. mudslinging seems like such a quaint and an ac insistic term for the campaigning in 2016. sadly this makes many voters want to take a shower rather than becoming enlightened and inspired. the continued fly to unimagined death is yet another blow to the ideal of participatory democracy. the next president will face daunting, unsolved issues that cannot be ignored. the last the topics never mentioned climate change, education, income gap, gun violence and infrastructure. on the list liar, email breaching and sex tapes. while we support the institution of nationally televised presidential debates perhaps it is time to rethink how to best serve their most important audience, voters. moderators no matter how well intentioned often seem powerless to steer discussions to the substance of the issues and away

repellant than informative. no question. this campaign and these debates will constitute a new low. but if we can tweak and reform some parts of the process to bolster the turnout we can do the same with debates where the goal is to better inform and frame a choice. and to make people want to vote

commissioner is asking for prayers no those two police officers who were shot and are in extremely critical condition this morning as well as the officers who responded to the scene and helped to provide first aid. the commissioner explaining how this violence escalated so quickly last night. all of that is coming up. but first back to the studio and check in. >> starting knott quite as cold, mostly in the 50s 53 in worcester where there is fog, visibility has improved in the past 15 minutes or so, a couple of miles now, so out at the bus stop, probably just a hoodie for the kiddos off the bus, so a little brighter, and it's a bit milder. we'll be up into the 60s, but a lot of low clouds, can't rule out patchy drizzle, especially towards the south coast, off to the west, a line of showers, that's a cold front and that will be coming through 24 evening. a lot of clouds and brightening mid-day and the temperatures respond.

that volume is picking up 25 minutes from 495 to 128. another accident by route 3 and 93 is heavy down to the lever connector. so far trains and buses are ok. randy: now to the breaking news we've been following, two police officers are shot in east boston. emily: and a lot of new information coming in so let's get right to the eyeopener. antoinette antonio is at the scene. antoinette. >> right now those two police officers are critical condition at mass general after a domestic violence call to this home right down here, down this hill on gladstone street, and the gun battle that came after. this started with a 9-1-1 call just before 11:00. police say that two roommates were having a spat. officers were inside that home when the shots rang out. two of them were hit. their fellow officers dragging them out of the line of fire

he served 30 years in prison for range children in the 1980s. he appealed his original sentence of 200 years. now prosecutors could have argued that because of his level 3 status, he needed to be civilly committed and treated at a mental health institution. martha coakley, news center analyst, says he was committed for treatment after his prison term, not guaranteed but it could have been an option. public officials going to be able to make sure the public is kept safe that people are aware of him and his record, and that while he's now on probation as a registered sex offender, that he will not be able to reoffend. todd: he returned to his family's home in weymouth. his probation supervision. randy: in your health this morning, cold season just around the corner. emily: we have three things to

minute but first a check of the forecast with cindy. cindy: hurricane nicole bearing down on bermuda. this strengthened overnight. it's a category 4. that's not something that we see that often. 130 miles per hour winds in the center, and it is moving towards bermuda. to see a hurricane this strong doesn't happen that often. since 1851 only seven major, which is a category 3 or higher hurricanes have come within 50 miles of bermuda so they get impacted by these but they are usually see the motion. it is heading for bermuda. the center of this is 65 miles away, so they are getting into the hurricane force winds right now, and they will be in them for several more hours to come. by 2:00 it is by them but the impacts are going to be felt, destructive, damaging winds, six to eight foot storm surge, and flooding rains of five to eight inches all happening in bermuda, and the storm continues to move out, not going to impact us

worcester area, visibility down to a half a mile, and the temperatures are starting out mild, close to 50. and a lot of low clouds, notice a little bit of moisture. a little drizzle on the southerly wind. we have also got a front off to the west, and this front could bring a shower by this evening but this morning it is murky, and we are going to brighten things up by noontime. mid 60s, passing shower threat, but it's a mild day. we're up near 7 -- 70. so this is it for theil it turns cooler tomorrow but you can see what happens towards 5:00 this evening. there are the showers around the worcester area, and they fall apart a bit as they go into boston but the skies clear and the temperatures head down, so today is a mild one. 70, gusty winds, cooler temperatures back to sunshine. only in the 50s tomorrow and to start the weekend. get you out to the roads. a busy ride. >> very slow here along the expressway. sky5 on the scene taking a look at the backup on the southbound side. it's fine but northbound take a
