antoinette: it has been several hour since all of this happened and the area is still blocked off. we are kept very far away. the home of the investigation is happening is down this hail. originally it came as a call for a domestic situation then turning into a gunbattle when officers arrived. >> it was like a war zone for a few minutes. antoinette: resident still shaken up by the violence that unfolded just a few doors down. available to make their way. 136 gladstone street. >> top, pop, pop. antoinette: posting this video on facebook. >> i was in fear of my life and i don't want to experience that again. antoinette: just before 11:00 last night officers responded to the home and east boston. two roommates in some certified. officers were inside when one of

-- >> suddenly please came speeding down the street. antoinette: responding officers dragging -- while returning gunfire killing the suspect now identified as 33-year-old kirk figeuroa. police say figaro was armed with an assault rifle and wearing a ballistic vest during the shootout. he was a sworn constable in boston and also ran a private security firm. the police asking for prayers for the two officers and those who rushed to their aid. >> a firefight here. able to pull two of their officers out safely. unfortunately we had to take a life in doing. antoinette: on his security companies website kirk figeuroa describes himself as a former member of the army reserves. a former corrections officer as well as a bounty hunter in california.

confirming anything about his history. erika: as we mentioned, the two officers who were shot are out of surgery and recovering but still in critical condition. sera: mayor walsh and police commissioner evans returned to the hospital briefly this morning after spending much of the night with the officers families and in prayers at mgh. those recovery but still listed in critical condition. >> i asked the public to pray for them. sera: a tense night at mass general were two boston police officers underwent surgery after being shot in east boston. the pair entered a home for reports of a domestic disturbance.

injured men to safety, applying attorney get to their wounds. >> one officer had his hand in one of the wounds and i think that was a mental in getting the officer down to mass general. sera: entered officers were described as being in extremely critical condition requiring multiple blood transfusions and surgery. just before 8:00 this morning boston police tweeting our officers are out of surgery in recovering. they remain in critical condition at this time. prayers. one of the officers is a 28 year veteran of the force. the other with 12 years on the job. both are men but their names have not been released. >> all the officers exhibited extreme courage and bravery. sera: nine other officers were taken to tufts medical center for what has been described as minor injuries. commissioner evans saying they experienced enormous amount of

often but this strong is a rare thing. there is the eye kind of brushing the right hand side of bermuda. very strong here going just east of bermuda and right now the ways to the east of bermuda are over 30 feet and they have been getting a ton of rainfall. category three, now moving away from the island. a good distance by this evening. storm surge, 68 feet, eight inches plus of rain. res winds have been sustained 87 miles per hour. peak gust reported that 128 miles per hour. unfortunately a lot of destruction with powerful winds and this will continue to move to the north atlantic. we are watching a cold front off to the west. mild out ahead of it but we will see much cooler air coming in. big cold weekend. showers for this evening just

emily: human error being blamed for the release of the convicted level three sex offender. richard gardner served his time 30 years in prison for raping children in the 1980's and the district attorney is calling his release after that a clerical error. if prosecutors could have argued that because gardner's level three status he needed to be civilly committed and treated at a mental health institution. martha coakley says it is not clear that a review what if was committed for treatment after his prison term but it could have been. erika: donald trump firing back against accusations he groped several women. the republican presidential nominee demanded the new york times wrote tracked an article featuring claims from two women who say he assaulted them decades ago. cannon mountain reports hillary clinton is facing fallout of her own. kenneth: the gop nominee and the accusers. >> it was like he had six arms. he was all over the place. kenneth: in a new york times report jessica leads says donald trump groped her three decades

far from over. of 18 inches of rain fell in eastern part of that state in the rain combined with runoff from area rivers is now rushing toward the coast. sections of interstate 95 and 40 are still closed for drivers and the damage from the hurricane now estimated at $10 billion in the u.s.. cindy: we are watching bermuda got to be suffering absolutely. i wind. up to 13 inches there. really a tough situation. the wind likely doing damage as well. it now moving away. we could use some rainfall around here. for the month running a little above average but our deficit for the year continues to be more than nine inches. they had 18 inches of rain in north carolina from hurricane matthew.

60 degrees in boston. the south southwesterly wind at 14. that has brought in milder air. upper 60's of the north shore, fitchburg up to 60 degrees already. worcester started out with a lot of fog this morning. now 61 degrees and you can see along the south coast, new bedford, 69. a lot of us will sneak up to 70 degrees in the next couple of hours before class started thicken and showers move in at least little bit of sunshine mixing with the clouds the next couple of hours. drive through about 4:00 this afternoon and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at least around boston we could get into a shower. i think it's happening early for you throughout the worcester area and beyond 495 into southern new hampshire. i thought :00 this evening a couple showers coming through. as the line approaches the coast the kind of fall apart but i think the north shore has a good chance, seen a couple spot showers.

through around 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. >> this is an editorial by wcvb channel 5 president and general manager, bill fine. bill: with two presidential debates now in the books in less than a month remaining to election day, it's time to take stock of what america has seen and heard. more to the point, not no points awarded for sheer originality as this race has charted new destructive territory. mudslinging seems like such a point term for the negative campaigning in 2016. sadly such originality makes many voters want to take a shower rather than becoming enlightened and inspired by these debates. the continued slide unimagined depth is yet another blow to the ideal of participatory

cannot be ignored. at the last debate they were ignored. topics never mentioned, climate change, education, gun violence, infrastructure. on the list, misogynist, sex tape. while we support the institution of town televised debates, perhaps it is time to rethink how to best serve their most important audience, voters. moderators often seem to steer discussion to substantive issues and away from streams of personal attacks that most viewers find more repellent and informative. this current campaign and these debates will constitute a new low but if we can reform some parts of the voting process to bolster turnout we can do the same debates where the goal remains to better inform and frame a choice in to make people
