a.j.: yesterday started out very early. a few clouds off into far northern new england back into new york. that will be part of our forecast. we look to the west. a band of showers, some rumbles of thunder moving through lower michigan right now. and we'll keep an eye on these as they continue trekking eastward. high pressure is our friend for today. keeps skies mostly sunny and once that high return flow. winds from the south and west boosting in mild temperatures. check this out. already 68 degrees in chicago. it's 70 in st. louis right now! contrast that with our 47 degrees. a little cool out there. certainly not as bad as yesterday morning. 36 in fitchburg. 33 in taunton. plymouth 38. 37 in hyannis. let's take a look at your next several hours starting off with

degrees by about 7:00 this morning. sunrise by the way just before 7:00 this morning. it gets later and later. we'll expect a few clouds coming up later this afternoon. full forecast including a look at the patriots game coming up in just a bit. antoinette: we're following breaking news overnight. state police investigating this crash involving at least two vehicles on 95 south in north attleboro. this happened near exit 5 just after 3:00 this morning. we know at least one person was hurt, but the extent of those injuries is situation and bring you more as we get it. right now, police are searching for suspects after a toddler is hurt in a shooting. doug: this all happened in roxbury while the girl was sitting in a parked car with her father. the eyeopener's diane cho reports the father is known to police and not cooperating. diane: dorothy was inside her home when the gunfire erupted. >> my car was shot out like two

little girl was shot in the backseat of a car in a case where they believe her father was the spended target. >> i wish we had more cooperation. obviously, the father here is a known gang kid to us who also is not telling us the truth of what happened here. and it's unfortunate. diane: the police commissioner says they believe the little girl was shot in the hand and the bullet went through her leg. know a baby was shoulder. diane: a shots fired activation went off just after 4:00. they later learned the child's father brought the 2-year-old to an area hospital. >> everybody should be outraged. unfortunately, too often, we don't get the cooperation that can stop this senseless violence. diane: last sunday, a 9-year-old

by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president. antoinette: that was david bienick reporting. he points out one republican leader who does not agree with trump's doubts about the election. house speaker paul ryan's office says he is, quote, fully confident the november election will be carried about with integrity. doug: the clinton campaign ignoring um accusatio accusations, hitting the gop nominee for saying a clinton win would mean the election was rigged. yesterday, her running mate, tim kaine, discussed the issues with voters in tampa, florida. >> now that he thinks he's going to lose, he's saying the whole thing's rigged. it's rigged against me. poor me. the guy's just a bully. doug: the vp nominee hitting trump for his comments about women, kaine saying that's not

clinton will be in dartmouth college in the morning followed by one at keene state college tomorrow afternoon. both candidates are preparing for their final debate wednesday in las vegas. our emily riemer will be there live with pre and post-debate coverage. doug: the driver involved in this dramatic rescue in arlington is expected back home today. police pulled the car out of the water yesterday as they to drive into spy pond. three men pulled her to safety. joyce not facing criminal charges. antoinette: the two boston police officers injured in wednesday's shooting remain in critical but stable condition. matt morris was in surgery again yesterday. commissioner bill evans visited officer richard cintolo who is in good spirits and recovering from surgery on friday.

boston police removed several bags of evidence from the home on gladstone street. although the shooter was shot dead, more criminal charges may be filed. doug: the family of a swimmer who died during lifeguard tryouts is demanding $100,000 in damages. jack jakubek died back in may. now his family says the town is liable because lifeguard ignored his signal for help. a lifeguard toll saw jakubek raise his arms. the family could sow. powerful weather across the country. antoinette: the damage in the northwest after a typhoon. plus, north carolina is under water this morning. the disaster zones nearly a week after hurricane matthew. doug: and jimmy kimmel drops by newscenter 5. hear what he has to say about an upcoming pizza party in boston that he was not invited to.

doug: welcome back. communities in north carolina, after hurricane matthew unleashed powerful winds and torrential rains. two more bodies were found this weekend in cars submerged in floodwaters, bringing that death toll in that state to 26. areas like this referred to as disaster zones, entire neighborhoods are under water while just miles away others appear hardly hit. while some areas are receding, the governor says it's not over yet. >> there are still many, many difficult days ahead for north carolina and many of our

by this incredible hurricane that has been with us now for over 10 days. doug: flooding triggered by the hurricane killed at least 43 people in the u.s. and more than 500 people in haiti. antoinette: the northwest dealing with their own powerful storm, the remnants of a pacific typhoon barreled down on parts of oregon and washington, snapping trees and power lines with winds up to 80 miles per hour. tens of thousands were without power after that storm made landfall last serious injuries. a typhoon in the pacific northwest. a.j.: incredible, this huge low-pressure system spawned water spouts off of oregon which moved inland as tornadoes. oregon averages two tornadoes a year. they had a couple of them come onshore in one day. i mean, it's just crazy weather out there. and we actually benefit a little bit from what's going on out there.

east. that's why we're talking about warming temperatures. it's all connected. let's take a look at temperatures right now. 43 in beverly. 47 boston. 36 in fitchburg. we do have chilly spots out there including norwood at 32 degrees right now. 33 in taunton and the vineyard at 34. not quite as chilly as yesterday, but high pressure atop of us, we're talking about a little bit of chill. once this high moves offshore, our winds will shift into more of a southwesterly direction, and that will bring up some pretty good warmth. we also are tracking scattered showers and thundershowers that will factor in maybe a bit into our forecast as we head through the next couple of days. in the meantime, look how mild it is right now. sun hasn't even risen yet. it hasn't here, so it hasn't in st. louis yet. 70 degrees.

way above average, and this is the air mass that will be building in for us the next few days. milder temperatures coming in starting today. we'll be nearing 70 degrees when all is said and done this afternoon. i don't think we'll have much of a sea breeze. boston and many coastal locations, the beaches, will be a nice spot to head today with maybe the light jacket. you could probably shed that by midday. cold front comes through overnight toni shower. not expecting a whole lot of rain. as we head into monday, that front is hung up over us. we'll call it a sun and cloud combo. the cold air doesn't have a chance to move in. i think we stay pretty mild for tomorrow. let's talk about those high temperatures for today, nearing 70 degrees, and again some sunshine with a few clouds, especially later on this afternoon. tonight we'll drop back into the 50's to near 60 degrees. that's about it.

slightly warmer than the 71 degrees. this time of year as the water temperatures cool off, we have that to battle too. it takes more of a land breeze to offset that sea breeze. i think there may be a little bit of a sea breeze developing for some locations tomorrow afternoon. all right. take a look at it on your seven-day forecast. a milder day today. warm tomorrow. i think we'll be in the low to mid 70's for tomorrow. then for tuesday, near record warmth as, again, we're talking about a big ridge of high weather here as we head through midweek. record high temperature for boston, 82 degrees set back in 1947. we'll be darn close to that number. and we stay pretty warm into wednesday as well before cooler temperatures start to prevail once again. it looks like the chance for some rain arriving but not until later this week. any systems will be very weak with brief overnight showers. any rain holds off until the

doug and antoinette. antoinette: time 5:16. stories we're following right now. doug: investigators are looking into the cause of a massive fire in arizona. check this out. this was the scene last night in gilbert. that fire growing quickly to five alarms at the apartment complex that was under construction. more than 120 firefighters were needed. nobody seriously hurt here. fire officials saying strong winds fanned flames for hours. antoinette: two recalls on tires affecting giti tire is recalling several sizes because of a defect that causes cracks. continental tire is recalling tires installed on more than 14,500 g.m. vehicles. all the tires will be replaced for free. doug: vermont state police are investigating after a human skull was found at a home in sheldon. investigators say it could belong to the victim of an

updates as we get them. doug: right now, police are searching for the suspect who shot a 2-year-old girl a roxbury. the girl is expected to be okay after police say she was shot in the hand while sitting in a car with her father yesterday afternoon. they believe her father, a known suspected gang member, was the intended target. and they say he is not cooperating with police. antoinette: new accusations from donald trump suggesting hillary clinton used drugs to enhance her debate performance. he made the yesterday, saying that clinton should take a drug test before wednesday's debate. the clinton campaign has not yet responded. both candidates are off the campaign trail today. doug: the two boston officers injured in wednesday's shooting remain in critical but stable condition. officer matt morris was in surgery again at mass general hospital. commissioner bill evans visited the officers, who are in good spirits after recovering from

antoinette: u.s. navy is investigating another possible missile attack on u.s. ships off yemen's coast. army officials say the strikes came from a rebel-controlled area, but they did not hit any u.s. ships in the red sea. this all comes days after a u.s. missile strike destroyed three radar sites in yemen in retaliation for two earlier attacks. doug: new this morning, the u.s. is condemning the latest missile launch from north korea which it says failed aft detonated. the projectile exploded yesterday. the fire of a midrange missile is in violation of the u.n. security council resolution. antoinette: a new england sailor who died in the attack on pearl harbor is laid to rest in new hampshire. edwin c. hopkins onboard the uss oklahoma at pearl harbor on december 7, 1941. the 18-year-old from keene was

being hit by japanese torpedos. 75 years later, his remains were identified. he was buried in an anonymous grave in honolulu until his remains were exhumed and positively i.d.'d through dna from a cousin. >> it's a day to celebrate. he's home with his parents. it's not a sad day. it's a happy day. antoinette: hopkins was buried next to his parents in keene with full military honors. boston firefighters are prin of those killed in the line of duty. this morning, the boston firefighters local 718 will hold its 34th annual 10k. it was established to celebrate those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while raising money for charities and scholarships. that starts at 9:00 this morning. morrissey boulevard northbound to neponset circle will be closed to traffic until 11:00. doug: the controversial galaxy

marijuana. joining the opposition in massachusetts, las vegas mogul adelson. they're known for their work battling drug addiction. antoinette: s a reminder about a new law in massachusetts dealing with prescriptions. the law went into effect yesterday, requiring health care providers to check the state's new online prescription monitoring program before prib drugs with high potential for abuse. doug: we have an inspiring story out of franklin this morning. a pop warner football team is raising money for an interpreter for a teammate who is deaf. our nichole berlie shows us he can also keep playing the game he loves. nichole: this is how luke loves to spend his saturdays, playing pop warner football.

31 in norwood. 47, though, in the urban areas of boston. 39 falmouth. the temperature trend here, let me show you what we have in store for today first. 69 degrees. that's way above the average of 62. if you like that, we're heading in the right direction. 74 tomorrow. 81 on tuesday. yes, mid-october. 76 degrees by wednesday as it backs off a little bit and turns a little cooler t we'll get into that momentarily. we've got clear skies out there, a few clouds working their way into new york. northern new england as well. we'll get a taste of these this afternoon. there's a cold front with a few scattered showers and even some heavier downpours working through lower michigan right now. this front will actually get hung up over new england and lift northward as a warm front with time. so we're talking about the warmth that's out in the plain states right now.

all that mild air pours in here over the coming two, three days or so. that's because high pressure is moving offshore. channels our winds in from the south and west. here comes that cold front for tonight. we may get a spritz from it, but that's about it. the front gets hung up over the top of us for monday. we're talking about extra clouds on monday to maybe even a brief shower here and there, but by and large, this is going to be mild as that front lifts northward on tuesday. check it let's take you through time as we head through the day today. increasing -- we'll call it going partly cloudy by this afternoon. overnight tonight, watch as these showers affect westernmost massachusetts and maybe into worcester hills. by tomorrow morning, we're talking about a blend of clouds and sunshine. watch as a few of these showers may try to pop up, but it doesn't look like we'll have a whole lot of that rain.

a restaurant in los angeles. three people were killed. 12 others hurt in that shooting early yesterday. at least two of the survivors are said to be in grave condition. the restaurant was operating out of a converted home. it is still unclear if it was properly licensed. no word on a motive. antoinette: a new space mission out of china. tomorrow the country will send two astronauts to an orbiting space lab in an effort to set up a permanently manned space station by mission leaders say the astronauts will stay there for about a month to conduct experiments. the u.s. has highlighted increasing capabilities of the space lab, concerned that china is pursuing ways to prevent adversaries from using space assets in a crisis. china denies those claims. doug: evacuations are underway in nevada over a wildfire. hundreds of fire crews are trying to get the flames under control. they started friday morning fueled by strong winds, but firefighters say the flames are

it's one of the oldest continuing industries in massachusetts. reporter: though often associated with cape cod, cranberry country starts west of the canal. >> bluewater farms. we're a family-owned company. reporter: craig is a second generation cranberry grower who started the farm in 2014. on his 50 acres, he maintains wet and dry bogs. most growers flood their bogso but he also uses dry picking. >> have small machines you walk behind and actually combs the fruit out of the vines. goes up a conveyor into a bag. from the bag, we load it into bins. each bin weighs 300 pounds. we fly them off the bog with a helicopter. right onto the trailer. reporter: when the berries get to the plant, they go through a multistep process. >> first it goes through the blower which removes all the leaves and vines and everything.
