and the sandals right now, but we have gotten out of the 30's in most spots. orange still at 33 as of this hour. so it's slow to warm there. lots of sunshine, though. that will help to warm things up. that coupled with the fact that high pressure's moving offshore and we've got winds coming up from the south and west on the return side of that high. that means milder temperatures coming our way. so for the next three days, mild today. some increasing clouds. upper 60's into the 70's tomorrow and perhaps the lower 80's on tuesday, when record high temperatures may fall on tuesday. we'll have the forecast for you in detail when we might see a few raindrops coming up in just a bit. antoinette? antoinette: thank you. we're following breaking news out of revere right now. these are live pictures that you're looking at from francis street. police and swat members are surrounding a home in that area. police were called there just before 5:00 this morning. but it's unclear why at this

in handcuffs and there are still believed to be people barricaded inside the home. we're going to stay on top of this situation and we're bringing you more information as we get it. doug: we're following breaking news also out of new hampshire this morning where three people are suffering stab wounds in plymouth. they responded to an off-campus housing at 4:00 this morning. no word on the conditions or if they are hurt after this crash in north attleboro. it happened near exit 5:00 around 3:00 this morning. one person suffered nonlife-threatening injuries as well. mansfield firefighters say the crash involved vehicles on both sides of the highway, but it's unclear just how it happened. right now, police are searching for suspects after a toddler is hurt in a shooting. doug: this all happening in roxbury. while the girl was sitting in a parked car with her father. the eyeopener's diane cho

police and is not cooperating. reporter: dorothy was inside her home when the gunfire erupted. >> my car was shot out. reporter: police say a 2-year-old little girl was shot while sitting in the backseat of a car in a case where they believe her father was the intended target. >> i wish we had more cooperation. obviously, the father here is a known gang kid to us who also is not telling ushe reporter: the police commissioner say they believe the little girl was shot in the hand and the bullet went through her leg. she is expected to recover. >> it's just sad. it's a real, real sad situation. it's real sad to know that a baby was injured. diane: a shots fired activation went off just after 4:00. when officers got to the scene, they found shell casings but didn't find any victims. they later learned the child's father brought the 2-year-old to an area hospital. >> everybody should be outraged. unfortunately, too often, we don't get the cooperation that

diane: last sunday, a 9-year-old girl suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after she was shot when she was on a playground less than two miles away from where shooting took place. >> it's way too much going on throughout this community. not just in this area. throughout the whole entire city. and it just needs to come to a halt. diane: the 2-year-old child is expected to be okay. police are asking if you have any information that can help in this case to call the boston police department. at police headquarters, diane cho, wcvb newscenter 5. antoinette: commitment 2016. presidential candidates hillary clinton and donald trump taking time off the campaign trail today ahead of this week's final debate. a new abc news/washington post poll giving clinton a four-point lead over trump. yesterday, trump stumped in portsmouth, new hampshire, making a stunning challenge. trump wants drug tastes before the debate. david: in front of several thousand supporters, donald

new england's opioid crisis with harsher sentences for drug dealers and more treatment for addicts. despite recent polls, he predicted he would win but repeatedly called into question whether the election would be fair. >> the election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president. antoinette: that was david bienick reporting. he points out one republican leader who does not agree with election is house speaker paul ryan. his office says he is, quote, fully confident the november election will be carried about with integrity. doug: the clinton campaign ignoring trump's drug accusations this morning, instead hitting the gop nominee for saying a clinton win would mean the election was rigged. yesterday, her running mate, tim kaine, discussed the issues with voters in tampa, florida. >> now that he thinks he's going to lose, he's going around and saying, oh, the whole thing's rigged. it's just rigged against me.

the guy's just a bully. doug: the vp nominee hitting trump for his comments about women, kaine saying that's not what real men do. antoinette: president bill clinton will be back in new hampshire tomorrow to campaign for his wife. he has an event at dartmouth college in the morning followed by one at keene state college tomorrow afternoon. both candidates are preparing for their final debate wednesday in las vegas. our emily riemer will be there live with pre and post-debate coverage. doug: the driver involved in this dramatic rescue in arlington is expected back home today. police pulling that car out of the water yesterday as they investigate what led helen joyce to accidentally drive over a curb and into spy pond. three men helped pull her to safety after the car went under. everyone is expected to be okay. joy will not face criminal charges. antoinette: the two boston police officers injured in wednesday's shooting remain in critical but stable condition. officer matt morris was in surgery again at mass general

commissioner bill evans visited officer richard cintolo who is in good spirits and recovering after his surgery on friday. police, meanwhile, continue to investigate the shooting. friday, boston police removed several bags of evidence from the home on gladstone street. although the shooter was shot dead, prosecutors say more criminal charges may be filed. doug: the family of a swimmer who died during lifeguard tryouts in orleans down on the cape is demanding $100,000 in damage 22-year-old jack jakubek died at a tryout at pilgrim beach back in may. now his family says the town is liable because lifeguard ignored his signal for help. police saying a lifeguard told them he saw jakubek raise his arms but thought the swimmer was joking. if the town denies the request, the family could sue. powerful weather across the country. antoinette: the damage in the northwest, plus north carolina under water. the disaster zones nearly a week

>> there's still many, many difficult days ahead for north carolina and many of our citizens who are being impacted by this incredible hurricane that has been with us now for over 10 days. doug: flooding triggered by the hurricane killed at least 43 people in the u.s. and more than 500 people in haiti. antoinette: the northwest dealing with their own powerful storm. the remnants of a pacific typhoon barreled down on parts of oregon and washington, snapping trees and power lines with winds up to 80 miles per hour. tens of thousands were without power after that storm made landfall last night. so far no reports of any serious injuries. and it's still pretty wet out there. it can affect us out there. a.j.: you develop with a trough of low pressure. when that happens, you get a corresponding ridge, which translates into fair weather and/or warm temperatures.

clouds into new york state, upstate new york, back into northern new england as well. we have the sunshine. we will see some of these clouds move into our area later this morning, midday into the afternoon hours, but the rainfall from any of these clouds, while minuscule it may be, will hold off until well after dark. in the meantime, high pressure is overhead. moves out to sea for later on temperatures with the winds out of the southwest through the next couple of days, as a matter of fact. look how mild it is off to our west. 50's and 60's, even a 71 in st. louis right now. so that's the air mass that replaces the one we have with all the cold temperatures. it's going to stick around as well. 69 for a high today. 74 for a high tomorrow. 81, believe it or not, for boston on tuesday. and the record high, by the way,

we'll still be well into the 70's by wednesday. the first half of this week is looking mighty mild. warm, you might say. there are the showers trying to come through. you're looking at sunday night tonight heading toward midnight and a dot or two of shower activity working towards worcester hills. most of it heading toward 495 will dry up. tomorrow morning heading to work, i think the clouds will with the sunshine. the sun and cloud combo. the farther north, the more sunshine you'll have for tomorrow, as a matter of fact, as we have a cold front that kind of gets hung up right over the area, keeps us in the clouds. now, along that front, when it starts to live back northward as a warm front monday night, may get a few hit or miss scattered showers or a rumble of thunder or two, and then this all lifts

first batch. batch number two, we're looking at maybe, maybe, i don't know, a couple hundredths of an inch. let's check your seven-day forecast real quick. it goes a little something like this. milder today. warm tomorrow. and extremely warm on tuesday. the record high again 82 degrees. we'll make a run at that. then we're still in the 70's for wednesday. next bet for any appreciable ra guys, over to you. antoinette: 81 on tuesday. doug: unbelievable. antoinette: wow! 8:17. stories we're following right now -- doug: investigators are looking into the cause of a massive fire out in arizona. this was the scene last night in gilbert. the fire growing so quickly to five alarms at this apartment complex under construction, more than 120 firefighters needed to be called in to get those flames under roll. nobody seriously hurt. but fire officials strong winds fanned the flames for hours.

affecting some 265,000 vehicles. giti tire is recalling several models of its tires because of cracks allowing air to leak out. continental tire is recalling certain models installed on 14,500 general motors vehicles. those tires could cause excessive tread wear and bulging areas. doug: vermont police are investigating after a human skull was found at a home in sheldon. investigators say it could belong to a victim of an unreported homicide. police searched the home after a tip, and forensic tests are underway right now to determine the identity and the cause of death. announcer: now here's josh brogadir with sportscenter 5 powered by xfinity. josh: bruins got their fans excited in a come from behind season opening win in columbus thursday night. hey, who doesn't like six goals. but those were the blue jackets.

yesterday began freezing in most cases, 20's and 30's. now we're 30's and 40's. the million-mile journey begins with the first tiny step, as i said earlier this morning. we're at 49 in boston. bedford at 48. and 38, though, in fitchburg. orange kind of stubborn. 33 degrees right now. taunton likewise, about 38. 55 in falmouth and 50 in hyannis. let's check out the satellite/radar composite. not a lot of cloud cover. it's mostly sunny out there. bu our north and west. we'll eyeball those and this threat for scattered showers that's moving through the lower great lakes right now. high pressure, though, overhead keeping us high and dry today, moving out to sea tonight. that brings in that warm southwesterly wind coupled with this cold front coming at us. we could be talking about a couple of scattered showers overnight tonight. but in the meantime, it's mild to warm to wicked warm sometime during the day on tuesday.

your forecast including the next chance for rain coming up. guys? antoinette: we are following breaking news on the eyeopener. doug: police and swat members are surrounding a home in revere. this happening on francis street right now. police were called there just before 5:00 a.m., but it is still unclear why. we just witnessed a second person being taken from that home in handcuffs. our crew on the scene says police are working to clear that house. we will bring you more information as we get it. we're following this morning. three people are suffering stab wounds in plymouth near plymouth university. firefighters tell our sister station wmur that they responded to off-campus housing just around 4:00 this morning. no word on the conditions of the victims or if they are students doug: right now, state police are investigating a crash on i-95 in north attleboro. this happened near exit 5 just after 3:00 this morning and it reportedly involved vehicles on

seriously hurt and at least another suffering nonlife-threatening injuries. right now, police are searching for the suspect who shot a 2-year-old girl in roxbury. the girl is expected to be okay after police say she was shot in the hand while sitting in a car with her father yesterday afternoon. they believe her father, a known suspected gang member, was the intended target. and the police saying he is not cooperating with them. investigating another possible missile test off yemen's coast. army officials say the strikes came from a rebel-controlled area, but did not hit any u.s. ships in the red sea. this all comes days after a u.s. missile strike destroyed three radar sites in yemen in retaliation for two earlier attacks. doug: new this morning -- the u.s. is condemning the latest missile launch from north korea which it says failed after

takeoff yesterday. the u.s. and south korea say the firing of a midrange missile is in violation of the u.n. security council resolution. antoinette: a new england sailor who died in the attack on pearl harbor is finally laid to rest in new hampshire. navy fireman third class edwin c. hopkins was onboard the uss oklahoma at pearl harbor on december 7, 1941. the 18-year-old from keene was one of 429 servicemen killed when the ship capsized after being hit by japanese torpedos. 75 years later, his remains were identified. he was buried in an anonymous grave in honolulu until his remains were exhumed and positively i.d.'d through dna from a cousin. >> it's a day to celebrate. he's home with his parents. it's not a sad day. it's a happy day. antoinette: hopkins was buried next to his parents in keene with full military honors.

of those killed in the line of duty. this morning, the boston firefighters local 718 will hold its 34th annual 10k. it was established to celebrate those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while raising money for charities and scholarships. that starts at 9:00 this morning. morrissey boulevard northbound will be closed until 11:00. doug: right now, the controversial galaxy note 7 smartphone is officially banned it's another blow to the manufacturer, samsung, after a $5 billion recall. the phones are considered hazardous material after dozens of reports of them catching fire. travelers down at florida's airport in tampa say they're happy for the ban. >> what do you immediately think of? >> fire. >> them exploding and lots of recalls. >> i'm not offended by going through security. i'd rather them be safe than sorry. doug: the t.s.a. says they won't be checking for them at security

an honor system. anybody who brings them onboard may face substantial fines and possible prison time. antoinette: commitment 2016 this morning, eggs are one of the most affordable forms of protein, so ballot question 3 regarding how farm animals are caged is raising questions about how it would impact the cost of eggs. in an "on the record" debate, opponents say it could cost as much as $70 more a year for a family. >> california again is the only state, the cost of eggs there are double across the rest of the country. the usda puts out a daily report that demonstrates since the implementation of that law in california, that is the case. >> will food costs be more at the supermarket as diane suggested? >> if you look at numerous studies that started before this campaign took place, the studies from the egg industry say it

egg. antoinette: you can watch the full debate today at 11:00 "on the record" followed by "matter of fact" with soledad o'brien and then "cityline" at noon. doug: perhaps one of the most potly debated ballot questions is number 4, ares legalizing marijuana. the dorchester native donate 1 million. he and his wife are known for their work addiction. antoinette: a new law in massachusetts dealing with prescriptions. the law went into effect yesterday, requiring health care providers to check the state's new online prescription monitoring program before prescribing opioids and other drugs with high potential for abuse. it's part of the substance abuse prevention law signed by governor baker in march. doug: an inspiring story out of franklin. a pop warner team is raising money for an interpreter for a

live look at boston right now, 49 degrees. temperatures on their way up. he gets me every time. southwesterly wind 10 miles per hour and a falling barometer right now. let's take a look at temperatures. they're not too warm right now. orange up through keene, we do have lots of 40's to near 50-degree readings. they were were taken as of the top of last hour. 45 minutes ago. most of you up at least into the lower 50' still parked in the 30's as of the top of the hour. a few filtering clouds come overhead as we step into the midday and afternoon hours. there's a frontal boundary back toward the great lakes with numerous showers and embedded heavier downpours. by the time this system gets here, and that will be later on tonight, we may get one or two brief little showers, because most of this activity kind of

moves offshore, it allows for this sort of air to start moving in. we're in the blues here. nice and chilly, right? nice and mild to our west. that mild air building and building and building for the next couple of days. here we go. we're looking right now with a couple of scattered clouds arriving. we zoom in toward midnight or so. tonight into tomorrow morning. notice a couple of showers, but i think a lot of the activity that comes in will die out as it crosses the worcester hills finishes them off. there may be a spritz or two inside of 495 and toward the cape and islands. meanwhile, tomorrow morning, you wake up to, well, a lot of clouds and some sunshine. not a bad start to the day. there may be a brief little spritz in there as well. and now this model indicating that it starts to clear out from north to south. now, that may be the case. but certainly as you travel farther north, if you're heading into new hampshire or maine, more sunshine up there. more cloud cover down to the

that we kind of jump rope on. it comes south and will lift back northward as a warm front for tuesday. as that happens, may get into a shower or thunderstorm briefly first thing in the morning before that lifts out and warmer air builds in. there's not going to be a lot of rain from this. i promise you that. the first round brings us maybe a couple cents' worth of rainfall. generally under 1/10 inch. the second round tuesday morning, not much more than shore communities toward the america mac vall-- merrimack va. there's the frontal boundary that will get hung up over us. that will keep us in the clouds for at least a period on tuesday. so highs today up near 70 degrees. sun setting, by the way, at 6:00 this evening, right on the dot, down to about 5:38 by the end of the month.

seriously hurt after this crash on i-95 in north attleboro. state police telling us it happened near exit 5 after 3:00 a.m. at least one person suffering nonlife-threatening injuries. mansfield firefighters saying the crash involved vehicles on both sides of 95. but it is unclear how it happened. antoinette: right now, a 2-year-old girl is recovering after she was shot in roxbury. police are searching for the suspect who they believe was targeting the girl's father, who was the time. the father is a suspected gang member, and police say he's not cooperating with their investigation. donald trump suggesting hillary clinton used drugs to enhance her debate performance. he made the comments during an event in new hampshire yesterday saying that clinton should take a drug test before wednesday's debate. the clinton campaign not yet responding to this. both candidates are off the campaign trail today. doug: patriot nation rejoicing

it's time to take stock of what america has seen and heard, or more to the point, not heard. there are no points awarded for sheer originality, as this race has charted new destructive territory. mud slinging seems like such a quaint term for the negative campaigning in 2016. sadly, such originality makes many voters want to take a shower rather than becoming enlightened and inspired by these debates. the continued slide to blow to the ideal of participatory democracy. the next president will face some daunting, unsolved issues that cannot be ignored. but at the last debate, they were ignored. the topics never mentioned, climate change, education, income gap, gun violence, infrastructure. on the list, liar, misogynist, email breaching and sex tape. while we obviously support the institution of nationally televised presidential debates, perhaps it is time to rethink

important audience -- voters. moderators, no matter how well intentioned, often seem powerless to steer discussions to substantive issues and away from streams of personal attacks that most viewers find more repellent than inform nave. no question, this current campaign and these debates will constitute a new low. but if we can tweak and reform some parts of the voting process to bolster turnout, we can do the same with debates where the goal remains to better inform and frame a choice and to make
