erika tarantal. emily is in las vegas for the presidential candidate. some overnight downpours. this rain is in the process of getting out of here but came down pretty good for a while. we are drying things out. boston north and west. a couple of lingering showers here. that will be winding down in the next 15 minutes or so on the north shore. a couple of raindrops, as well but by far heaviest rain is around the plymouth area on have good downpours out there, and also dealing with the fog, and visibility is running a quarter of a mile in the warriors warriors area. the fog is widespread out in the western part of the state, not so much of an issue here closer to the coastline, but it is a damp start at some bus stops, getting off the bus this afternoon. it will be a warm one. temperatures jump into the 70s, way above average this time of year, 60 in worcester and 59 with the rain there in boston, and we're going to hold

into the afternoon, notice how the skies brighten. the frontal boundary may get hung up in northeastern massachusetts, and that may slow down the warmup. you can see the clearing off to the south and west, and that's going to be working in here, but the rain is gone by 8:00. you can see the clouds through lunchtime, and the brightening skies. so the warmest readings going to be southwest of town, and we'll be close to the record highs today, coming up near 80 degrees out to the roads the roadways are wet. we want to keep the speeds down just a bit. route 1 coming through the saugus stretch getting busy on the brakes certainly up at the jump handle lights. we'll go to the map. farther north up on route 3, you can see the brake lights picking up, 495, just prior to that, down towards trouble cove road, 93 southbound, that's a tough go out of methuen down through 495 with the breakdown up there by

more brake lights out of wilmington into stoneham and pockets medford into the lower deck. no big deals yet on the upper end of 128 south of town, 24 brake lights out of west bridgewater all the way up into randolph. and the expressway, just about 30 minutes now. braintree right up to boston. >> thanks, police are looking for a car thief who stole a vehicle in roxbury, with a baby inside. >> that child is safe. the eyeopener's guiliani is live at the live at the gas station where this started. >> the baby is home, and no, it's no excuse. police believe that they did not realize was precious cargo was in the back seat. this happened before 9:30 last night here at this mobile gas station on washington street. officers say that no worse was used. that suspect just slid into the red honda while the driver was standing outside it. and boston police tracked down that honda and within minutes it

eyeopener wakeup call. >> don't forget the umbrella this morning. good morning everybody. cindy: although you can probably put it away shortly but you will be stepping through big puddles this morning. >> the roads are really wet. >> especially south of town really on route 3. >> the rain getting out of here. we had a quick downpour move through in boston. same deal on the north sho we got pockets of heavier rain. look at norwood, as well, we're playing catchup, south of plymouth where the rain is getting in towards you, and may not get closer to the canal. you can see how it is shifting out here towards the outer cape but we are drying out, even in boston a couple of lingering showers here up around the cape. you can see a couple around marshfield, but by far, this is pushing towards you, and it will be exiting shortly, and what we have developing out through

through a quarter of a mile so we'll get into the upper 70s, close to 80 from worcester into boston, and it will be cooler, late day, high temperatures may sneak up for you, merrimack

82. 85 in worcester, so we'll be closed. we may fall just short but it is mild, and tonight, low to mid 60s for the lows. we'll bring in the clouds in the north and west, and this is a frontal boundary that's going to drop through, and behind there front a lot of sunshine tomorrow. it is mild with a westerly wind, and we'll watch this shift as we get into thursday. so tomorrow is still dry. should sneak up to about or just over 80 degrees so a warm one tomorrow, and thursday, dry. an towards the late afternoon or evening. a couple of showers, that rain fills in on thursday night, and it is with us on friday, and the potential is there for a good soaking rain. we'll dry things out for the weekend but turn quite a bit cooler, in fact, the high temperatures may not get out of the 50s on sunday with the gusty winds. could be a bit of wind. >> not too bad. it looks like the heaviest rain is pretty much out this morning. >> right. >> still wet roadways to deal with, though. so take it easy.

pike. you can see the roads shining up a bit. certainly keep europe speeds down, and the secondary roadways, you could have leaves down on the roadways, that could slip things up. the pike ok, farther west, you have got the slowdowns picking up from framingham. let's go to the maps and we'll take it south of town. route 3, brake lights out of rockland into the braintree split. expressway, about 30 minutes, braintree up to the o'neal tunnel, and 24, that's a tough ride from west bridgewater up to minutes for that ride there. and route 3 on the brakes, just prior to 495, and 93, still heavy out of methuen. beyond that you will get your pockets, most of the way down towards the city, and if you are taking the trains, 750, to 625 from reedville has been canceled. you will have to take the next train 752, which leaves at 7:15. erika. >> thanks. 6:17, new this morning, former new york city mayor bloomberg is donating 50 million to the

erika: 6:24, did you hear the rain overnight? the focus is shifting offshore, although take a closer look with me at the cape. and you can see on the outer cape, provincetown looking at good downpours right now. these are going to be fog developing across a good portion of the area now, and those clouds, a bit stubborn until lunchtime, and skies should brighten. and near 60 now, we'll jump up into the 70s this afternoon, and make a run close to record highs, in the lower 80s, and still warm tomorrow near 80 degrees, and then it turns cooler on thursday. we'll bring back more showers late in the day. >> he was ready to come into

the rains, and now focusing themselves off the shore and onto the outermost cape, these will be pushing out quickly. so we're getting the rain out but you can see from worcester on west, there is fog, visibility at a quarter of a mile in worcester and that is it, and you can see what it looks like in boston. sun not up until 7:00, but it's a foggy start with the fog developing over the city. so damp at the bus stops, watch out for the kids. near 60 now. brighter, warmer getting off the bus. a lotf in shorts today, and you can see the temperatures on either side of 60, and it is going to hold there for a while this morning. i think it's around lunchtime and into the afternoon that the skies begin to brighten, and once they do the temperatures respond, so you can see the rain getting out of here, the clouds lingering, and then during the afternoon some southwest to northeast, the temperatures will come. you will be cooler on the shore. these are late day temperatures but near 80 in boston and 80 in

out to the roads right now. we have got the fog and also big puddles. >> indeed we do. we want to take it easy out there early on, don't forget the wet leaves and the secondary roadways could be slippery for you, as well. downtown you are in good shape over that bridge, the ramp is slow. you can see the tobin loop slow, and in fact, those delays will put you right back. let's go to the maps. south of town, the expressway, you are all jammed up over 30 mi o'neal tunnel. 24 back to west bridge, and route 3 on the brakes out of rockland. 95 slow from route 1 and sharon up to 128. mass pike getting the delays out of 495. most of the way into 128. that's going to take you 30 minutes. up to the north 93 heavy out of methuen. in fact, you are not getting any brakes. slow going down, and starting to see the slowdowns on 128, lynnfield getting down into the woburn stretch.

at southboro for an unruly customer. doug: 6:32. the stories we're tracking on the eyeopener for you. boston police are searching for the man who stole a car with a baby boy inside. it happened last night at a gas station on washington street and roxbury. that car was found a block and a half away. the baby was reunited with his mom unharmed. >> police asking for help identifying this person of interest in the shooting of a toddler in roxbury. he was operating a black scooter ar the time of the shooting on saturday. police believe the girl's father was the target. doug: this convicted sex offender is facing new charges. police arresting charles lover joy on charges of aggravated rape of a child. the level 3 sex offender is being held on $1 million bail. ep served two years in prison for a 2010 conviction of indecent assault and battery on a child. erika: an apology coming from a

sarah. sera: doug and erika, that apology coming from the wellesley police chief for what he calls the historic mistreatment of minorities. the chief cunningham made those remarks in his role as the president of the international association of chiefs of police during their national conference in san diego. the chief praising the officers who put their lives on the line but also saying that the mistakes were made along the way. >> many officers struggle to comprehend the reasons, as a result they are often unable to bridge there gap and connect with some segments of the communities. >> the chief believers an apology can help these tensions but he also says that people must remember today's officers are not to blame for mistakes of

comments, sera congi, newscenter 5. erika: thanks so much, prayers for these boston police officers hurt last week, and this morning, they are improving. fellow officers and neighbors gathered in an east boston church last night. that's as officers richardson and matt morris were upgraded to stable condition. officer morris underwent more surgery on his leg yesterday. both are saito >> the good news is that they are out of the critical stage, and stable, i am just thankful that these two officers are making such remarkable progress. >> kirk figueroa was killed in the shoot out. he opened fire first as the officers responded to a domestic call, still no word on a motive. erika: a teacher is out on bail this morning accused of soliciting naked pictures from an underaged student.

doug: 6:34. erika: cindy as your forecast. we are starting pretty wet and then going to get hot? doug: i love it. cindy: and there's your forecast, although maybe a slow process. the downpours that came through are gone now. you can see them shifting, but the warmup maybe a little delayed until we get into the afternoon. let me show you. this is a closer look at the last of the raindrops here around wellesley and up to provincetown. they are getting out of here but fog is developing and visibility a mile and a half in plymouth, and a quarter o worcester. it is thick out to the berkshires this morning, so we have got the fog, the showers again pulling out but look in this, it is going to be murky with overcast skies, and you can see the clouds hanging tough here along 495 to the north as well, and brighter skies, though, across connecticut, and that air with sunshine will work up as we go through the afternoon. so going to be a slow process but once the sun does come out, this is our springboard, it is 60 in worcester.

kind of sit over the area and may hold the temperatures down today, but you can see all the cloud cover here through 10:00, and by lunchtime, upper 60's, and once the sun comes out this afternoon, we'll jump up into the mid and upper 70s, and you can see that front is stalled out here, and this front is dividing much warmer air to the south -- south, with the cooler air, so you can see that we jump to 80 in taunton. 66 in portsmouth so in between it may take all day long before you get the shore and up through the merrimack valley. and record in boston today is 82, so we will be falling short in the worcester area, and still mild tonight and looks like a warm day tomorrow. we'll dry it out with a good amount of sunshine here. still around 80, and then it turns cooler on thursday with the showers moving in late in the day. let's get you out to the wet roads right now, a lot of puddles out there. up to the north, not so much

tobin solid right back to carter street in chelsea but let's go up to the maps here. we are dealing with a crash by trouble cove road, that has traffic back to the drum hill road here in this area. look at 93. hit the brakes right at 495. stays heavy down to the city, and overall you have got an hour and get down to that deck. south of town 24 all the way on the brakes, all the way back to west bridgewater, ready to get through one. sharon, up towards 128. taking the trains. 504, got about 10 to 15-minute delays from an earlier, unruly passenger. erika: breaking news. one person is dead after a car is hit by a great train in new hampshire. state police say the 64-year-old driver was parked on the tracks when her car was hit. amtrak.

erika: right now a baby is back with his family. and julie mcdonald is live with the search for the car thief. reporter: -- reporter: this is any parent's worst nightmare, a mother went into that mobile last night and when she cape out her car was gone with her baby inside. this happened before 9:30 here on washington street. police say no force was used. the suspect just slid into the red honda, likely noticing that 9-month-old boy in the back seat. boston police cruisers swarmed this neighborhood tracking down that honda within minutes. it was parked a block and a half away. that infant was still inside the car. fortunately not hurt. and was shortly thereafter reunited with his mother. investigates are urging anyone who may have seen something in this neighborhood to please reach out to police. live in roxbury this morning,
