a teenager killed riding his bike and broxton. ed: police rescued from -- dogs rescued from a home. harvey: the next chance of significant rain. maria: the new warning for commuters, what you need to know before those booths disappear. ed: breaking tonight, emotional new video you'll see only on newscenter 5. a missing swimmer reunited with his family, after they feared the worst. that man wis good evening, i'm ed harding. maria: and i'm maria stephanos. the swimmer and son-in-law got into trouble in the water off ipswich. newscenter 5's john atwater is there with the dramatic rescue. john: an amazing rescue here tonight. this man was out in the chilly water for 40 hours. he's he is walking off the helicopter that had just rescued him from the water. he gets a big hug from his family, absolutely relieved.

video of that rescue a quarter-mile off crane beach. this is a coast guard helicopter hovering above the water and a diver being lifted with that swimmer out of the water to safety. police say the man and his son-in-law went for a swim around 5:30 p.m., they are experienced swimmers, they do this a couple times a week police say there was zero visibility and there were very strong currents. the younger of the two made it to shore on his own but his father-in-law was out there and they are experienced swimmers and they did the right thing and did not panic. that assisted with our rescue. everyone did great job and things do not usually turn out this good. we are glad for that outcome. john: thickly, both of these swimmers are expected to be ok. head: also breaking, a tragic

a young boy riding a bike, hit and killed by a car. newscenter 5's jorge quiroga is live on the scene with the breaking details. jorge: at this hour a dramatic scene. this fire truck blocking the view. several women arise, apparently related to the victim. one of them could be heard crying across the street. the other collapse. an ambulance has just arrived and apparently shopper's health. the effort to id the vic him frustrated by cell phone was locked. all they had was a photograph from his screensaver. they could not get to his contacts. a quarter to seven tonight well after dark, on south main street, brockton, when tragedy struck. >> he was on a little huffy, a little bicycle. not both his sneakers off. he was all twisted up.

: as young as 13-years-old hit by a silver suv, killed instantly. >> the statement i heard from one of the witnesses is that he went right out in front of the car. jorge no skid marks, indicating : the 18-year-old driver may have not seen the bike until it was too late. that teen stayed on scene and was cooperative, later taken to the hospital as a precaution. >> our thoughts are focused on this young man that lost his life tonight and being able to jorge: the young victim had no id on him. police now trying to match a photo on his cell phone with photos on file with the school >> a child in a bicycle struck and killed. it is tough on the first responders. jorge: the state police accident reconstruction team on scene collecting evidence. >> my prayers go out to his family.

the boy's name is not being released. as you can see, this remains a very active investigation. ed also breaking, a man hit in : an avalanche of bullets in dorchester. the 41-year-old was working on his car on dorchester ave tonight. the globe reports, someone fired 15 rounds and ran off. the victim is at boston medical maria right now, police in : andover are searching for the man who exposed himself to kids at an elementary school. the students were outside for recess at saint augustine elementary school yesterday at noon. police say the man was in a parking lot next to the school. witnesses say he stood outside his car and exposed himself twice. he's described as white, in his 20's, with a slender build, and was driving a silver or black sedan, possibly a honda or volkswagen.

conditions inside a new hampshire home. rescuers describe a new disturbing sight at every turn. and right now the owner could be facing charges. newscenter 5's shaun chaiyabhat is live in pelham with what was found. shaun: pelham police removed 18 dogs from that home, they call the living conditions deplorable. so bad, police were concerned the air was not safe to breathe. >> it was disgusting with feces shaun: pelham police working one of the worst cases of animal neglect they've seen in years. 18 dogs removed in bad shape. neglected, hungry, locked in cages in the basement, or in this bathroom. this door chewed from a dog trying to escape. neighbors thought the man who lives here, was doing good taking in rescues. >> to the best of my knowledge, he's been fostering dogs and helping out with dogs that were going to be euthanized.

shaun: the homeowner told neighbors one of the puppies recently had parvo, so he had to quarantine all the dogs. police say the owner got them from rescue shelters, across new york and new england. those shelters also now worried what's happened to those dogs. a tip to police, said 30 to 40 pit bulls once lived in this home, locked away 20 to 23 hours a day. >> something that got a little out of hand. somebody trying to do good and maybe it got a l shaun: police say 15 dogs are still unaccounted for. some have shown up as strays abandoned around new hampshire. animal cruelty charges will likely come in the next few days. live in pelham, shaun chaiyabhat, wcvb, newscenter 5. and: take a live look over the city of boston. you can see the old hancock building is flashing, steady

due. harvey joins us now. harvey: it is warmer right now and it was all day long in boston. in boston, that is true. it is like a summer night all over southern new england. you can see the temperatures, 75 in bennington, vermont. it is with a high temperatures at least until this hour. 68 in boston but now 69. the 60's in this area, that is where the light easterly wind held on for so much of the day. the low clouds and the fog but now the southerly wind has taken over everywhere. 84 today and harford. many records were set from connecticut on down south and through the admitted lactic area. we are very mild. the area that has not warmed up is up across southern new hampshire and southern maine, there is where there is some dense fog.

in syracuse. what did not happen today in terms of temperature and boston will tomorrow. a great day to be outdoors. we will let you know about the change that follows in a few minutes. maria: this teenager is now on the state's most wanted list. 16-year-old jayden smith is wanted for the murder of 29-year-old jerrod cohen in fall river this summer. the victim was found in an apartment complex on plain street. state police say smith and another 16-year-old, joel lopez, shot cohen. lopez was arrested soon after. smith should be considered armed and dangerous. city health inspectors are shutting down another sweetgreen restaurant in boston. it's the restaurant on school street in downtown crossing. the city says someone complained about getting sick after eating at the restaurant last week. that triggered a spot check that found five violations including

know, if you don't have a transponder, get one. the are free. starting next friday at 10 p.m., the tolls will no longer be accepting cash. big changes are coming starting the last weekend of october. that's when massdot begins tearing down all 26 toll plazas. commuters will no longer pay as they exit the toll roads, instead you'll be charged as you pass thru the state's 16 new overhead gantries. here's the timeline you need to know. friday, october 28 at 10 p.m., the all electronic tolling system switches over, cash will no longer be accepted at toll booths and the next day at 5pm, new traffic patterns kick in at all toll plazas and sunday at noon, demolition of the toll plazas begins. that means the first real traffic test will be monday morning rush hour on halloween. commuters can expect some scary back-ups.

will be channeled into your lanes and stay in those lanes all the way through until you get to the connecting road you're going to. mary: massdot officials are laying out their plans in a series of community meetings, they say toll plazas will initially close the center lanes for demolition, meaning traffic will be directed to the outer lanes. hope is to have all the toll plazas demolished before thanksgiving, the contractors will be fined $38,000 a day, if the project goes over schedule. the entire transition will take a full year, but the most painful changes for commuters will be those bottlenecks as between halloween and thanksgiving. mary: look at this right here. a stranger walks up to a baby in a grocery store and picks her up right out of the cart. thankfully mom was right there to stop him. this happened in a store in houston, texas. you can see florence monauer shopping with her cart right next to her. the man comes up and reaches

buildings but lower down still in the fog. later, it is breaking a more and it starts to break around 515 p.m. and you can see the visibility increase in the distance. it cleared completely. the easterly winds shifted and the temperatures rose and it has been mild ever since. it is only out there. 69 degrees with the southwest wind at 70 miles per hour. it is mild all over the place. these were the high temperatures temperature because it stayed cool all day. same thing across northern mascoma southern new hampshire and southern maine but it hit 84 in springfield. downtown is 84. 84 in albany. 84 in poughkeepsie, many records were set. tomorrow, boston will share in the warmth as the mild southwesterly wind continues tonight. our temperatures are not going to fall much tonight.

lakes and that will reach us tomorrow night area these are the low temperatures, not very low. 82 in syracuse. i expect the average high temperature to be around 80 degrees tomorrow. there is a friend on the way and you do see a band of showers but all indications are most of the showers will dry out. some of the cloudiness will get here for the first half of the day tomorrow. then the front will come through and it will cool down tomorrow night. it will be cooler on thursday starting with the sun but ending with the system approaches. we are going to get some wet weather in here but not until later thursday or thursday night. you can see some clouds tomorrow but getting brighter in the afternoon from northwest to southeast and a delightful and pleasant day to be outside. thursday, it starts out ok. by the time we get to the evening commute, some rain starts to work in at least in scattered form. that could continue off and on into friday. the real question is what happens friday?
