joins us live from lawrence with new information. reporter: that's right. it is a parent's worst nightmare. a child snatched off the sidewalk, dragged away, sexually assaulted repeatedly. the good news is that child is recovering and safe tonight. more good news, the man is behind bars tonight. police say a 13-year-old was taken on the way to school this morning, trying toak lawrence east middle school shortly after 7:00. the child was repeatedly assaulted for about two hours before finally being released. the victim then made it to school, contacted their mother, who in turn contacted police. the victim luckily was able to give a very detailed description of the assailant. police later arrested

probation with an ankle bracelet. he was arrested a short time later. >> i think to be safe, and with an abundance of cotton -- caution, i will ask police departments to review the list of ankle bracelets and review what level of threats there are. reporter: police this incident, mateo was not a sex offender. he will be arraigned tomorrow for kidnapping and aggravated statutory rape. the victim was treated and released from the hospital. in lawrence, nichole berlie, wcvb newscenter 5. ed: also breaking, and arrest in a shooting that injured a teenager. maria: the 13-year-old was hit last night in chelsea while he was in his apartment. our rhondella richardson is live on the street where it happened,

also, the teenager just returned home. we wanted to tell you that chelsea police were tracking christian garcias suspect vehicle on route 93 in andover with a warrant, and made the arrest of the 19-year-old. 20 minutes ago, the shooting victim walked from mass general hospital. it was last night that 13-year-old juan lopez delgado. shoulder. it came through his bedroom wall. his mom says he was leaning against the wall. he's home from the hospital but apprehensive about street violence. >> we are all fearful. he told her, mom, i cannot even be safe in my own home. i don't want to the back. reporter: these are pictures from less night. the teenager was rushed to mass

on bellingham street by people exiting a dark colored suv around 8:30 last night. garcia is 19 and from everett, and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. in chelsea, rhondella richardson, wcvb. ed: new tonight the connecticut , medical examiner says a student pilot died of burns and smoke inhalation. officials say the crash in east hartford earlier this month was likely intentional. the flight instructor in that plane survived. only the instructor and student were on board. still under investigation whether the death was a suicide. maria: this is video you will see only on a chase comes to an five. end after the driver tries to ram an officer's cruiser. moments later officers try to save the driver from an apparent overdose. newscenter 5's john atwater shows us the dramatic events. reporter: officers in the city of boston face this reality

photographers captured her relic actions. the call comes in from an erratic driver in chinatown. the man in that white suv won't stop for police at one point it looks like he might ram the officer's squad. confronting that threat, the officer jumps out with his gun drawn. you don't hear him, but it's clear that man is screaming at the officer as he thrashes around violently in his car. calm as he tries to defuse his anger. eventually backup arrives, and it becomes clearer the man is suffering an apparent overdose. a team of officers pull him out of the car, his seemingly lifeless body slumped on the pavement. but captain kelley mccormick is holding his head, as he massages his chest. another officer grabs the narcan to breathe life into the man who is now unconscious. it takes two doses, and that audible sign of revival brings

without a doubt. he just od'd. reporter: emt's take the man away for further treatment, and those officers who saved his life regroup, after a tense traffic stop that ended with a heroic save. again, the man was taken to the hospital. no update on how he's doing. in chinatown, john atwater, wcvb newscenter 5. ed: a plan to expand boston children's hospital has been approved but it means the removal of the hospital's prouty healing garden. it's a difficult enr families who fought to preserve the garden. newscenter 5's diane cho is live in boston with more on the decision. reporter: many that have been fighting the decision has been disappointed. elizabeth richter and her family have been going to the prouty garden for decades after her brother died at the age of 12. his ashes were buried in the garden at boston children's hospital.

it may next week, because it will be turning decidedly more chilly. 58 degrees is the temperature in boston. the wind is off the water at 15. that means the temperature is pretty close to what the water temperature is, which is 60. the readings will not falter much more tonight. tomorrow's temperatures, the wind becoming more south lee and tropical. i would say upper 60's to low 70's. coming up. starting to see rain breaking out, some showers south of the island. that will lift northward, that will give us damp weather at times overnight. also seeing moisture to the west. that will eventually get involved later tomorrow and tomorrow night. watching this tropical disturbance to the south. that will add moisture also. that will stay east of us, but

moves east. there should be one band of heavy rain in western and northern new england, and perhaps in eastern new england, with those downpours. you see some of the showers moving in. it is off and on damp and tomorrow morning's commute. later on, possibly heavier downpours getting into eastern massachusetts, southeastern mass, the cape, an island. early saturday, most of that should have listed north, but saturday. that will probably lead to a few more showers. early saturday, it will probably still be not very windy, and mild. by saturday evening, the wind will pick up, and the temperature will start to fall. as the cold air moves in and the mountains of vermont, they could get snow ahead of the situation overnight saturday night into sunday. as for rainfall it's a little tough to say exactly how much,

ed: one boston apartment building is making headlines with its unusual requirement for new residence. maria: before you sign your lease, your dog has to take a dna test. the building, 315 on a in the seaport, is pet friendly but wants to make sure owners clean up after their dogs. droppings found on the property will be tested. if there's a dna match owners will be fined $110. little too far, but it is initiative. it's all over the sidewalk. people are not taking care of it. this is a way to keep people responsible. maybe that's ok. maria: dog walkers have seen it in other buildings, and expect to see more buildings fining for fido. why when hundred $10?
