doug: 4:30. good morning. october 24. i'm randy price. emily: i'm emily riemer. a warning on a boston campus. the alert to students after a sex assault inside a dorm. randy: loved ones fearing the worst after a teenager is missing. new details that could be emily: presidential candidates hitting the battle ground states. what donald trump has to say about new numbers that give hillary clinton the lead. randy: good morning, cindy. it is nice and cool. nothing too dramatic. cindy: not yet. it's going to get colder each morning. checking a little bit of rain, you can see this showing up mainly in connecticut and southeastern massachusetts. along the pike, you can see a

toward you around the worcester area. but the focus is mainly south of the pike. it's a fast-moving frontal boundary, and behind it it's going to be breezy and brightening up here as we go forward in time. by 8:00 this morning, a lot of the showers focused along the cape. elsewhere, the skies beginning to brighten and the rest of us will do that as we get into the afternoon. starting out with temperatures in the 40's and lower 50's. behind this front, the winds kick up out of the west. it's going to hold temperatures down. notice we get by 8:00 this morning, clouds breaking for sunshine. loads of sun this afternoon, but a high of only 57 in boston today. nudging toward 60 degrees on cape cod. this is one of the warmest days this week. we'll check the seven-day coming up. let's get you out to the roads. olessa: a live look outside. a check of the pike, alston-brighton, nice and quiet both ways. there's some overnight road work

by route 133 and 93 south looks good down to the leverett connector. more road work just cleared as you travel down toward the zakim bridge. the pike looks good. south of town, it's a quiet start. so far we're expecting trains and buses to start the morning on schedule. emily: breaking overnight -- massachusetts state police are investigating a serious wrong-way crash in middleborough. at least one person suffering life-threatening injuries. the medical e called to the scene. the crash happened on interstate 495 near exit 3. that area is still shut down. a college campus is on edge after a report of a sexual assault inside a dorm. randy: the suspect has not been found. the eyeopener's sera congi is on the b.u. campus with new information for us. sera: few details are available at this time, but we do know that the school sent out an alert to all the students on campus.

school, at the warren towers, a dormitory, in the early morning hours on sunday and was reported to police at 3:00 in the afternoon. the suspect in the sexual assault is not known and, unfortunately, the school says there isn't any description available. a boston university police are investigating this sexual assault and certainly encouraging anyone with information to reach out. live this morning at the b.u. campus, ser newscenter 5. emily: right now, loved ones are fearing the worst as police investigate the disappearance of a nashua teenager. it's believed jacob goulet fell into an open storm drain and a body discovered in the merrimack river could be that of the 16-year-old. the eyeopener's doug meehan live in nashua. there are still a lot of questions, doug. doug: yeah, there sure are. good morning, emily. a memorial continues to grow here to jacob goulet in downtown jabber what.

meanwhile, the body that was discovered yesterday more than 24 hours after jacob was last seen, and investigators are working on positively identify that young man. family, friends and strangers grieving the loss at this spot where it's believed jacob fell through the drain during friday's storm. >> i can't even imagine -- like, it doesn't seem real to me that something like this could happen. he was a really funny guy, and he was one of my best friends. doug: now, the area where the body was found is in tyngsboro. crews securing the storm cover on sunday afternoon. it's still being investigated why that cover was ajar. it is well marked and well secured at this time. we're live in downtown nashua this morning. doug meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: doug, thank you. the stories we're following right now on the eyeopener for this monday morning --

a body was found in a car in hyde park around 11:30 yesterday morningner 36 williams avenue. his name has not been released. antoinette: police are asking for the public's health in finding a man who robbed a bank. this is a picture inside a stop and shop supermarket around noon yesterday. the man handed the teller a note claiming to have a gun and got away with cash. call amesbury police. randy: donald trump and hillary clinton are taking their vision for herk -- america to battleground states. erika: hillary clinton will be in new hampshire with elizabeth warren and maggie hassan. donald trump is spending another day in florida. he'll be in st. augustine and

yesterday he was in naples denying a double-digit lead. >> numbers are looking phenomenal in florida. >> some people are sore losers. and we've just got to keep going. erika: clinton stumping in north carolina. the new poll from abc news shows both trump and clinton have ongoing issues plaguing them with voters. 69% of voters disapprove of trump's response to questions 59% disapprove how clinton answered questions about emails while secretary of state. emily: donald trump picking up a newspaper endorsement and there haven't been many. the "las vegas review" gave the republican its backing this weekend. the board writes, mr. trump represents neither the danger his critics claim nor the magic elixir many of his supporters crave. don't forget, early voting begins today for the first time in massachusetts.

i just want what's best for my kids. when i hear arguments that i think: what about the students in all of our schools? every new charter takes away more money from the existing public schools. that's 400 million dollars, just last year. we can't afford to drain even more money from our kids' schools because they're already losing so much. i'm not just standing up for my own kids; i'm fighting for yours, too.

emily: airline security concerns. two passengers board the plane in philadelphia that was supposed to be locked. francesco dedos and his daughter boarded that 9:00 a.m. american airlines flight three hours early yesterday. no one was there to check for boarding passes. the pilot later said the jetway door was left open overnight and that allowed the pair to get on unnoticed. passengers were switched to other planes out of an abundance of through a translator, dedos says it's not his fault. >> was it unlocked? >> no, it was open. it was open. but the guys in the front told him to go in and they went in. >> someone who works for the airlines? >> yes. emily: experts say the door that was unlocked can be put into override if an agent types in a special code. if that's the case, investigators should be able to figure out who did it. randy: the recipients of the highest award from massachusetts

emily: just about 4:44 on this monday morning. a little green on the radar today. is it sticking around? cindy: no. this is not even moving quickly. i'm calling it racing. it is racing through this morning. timing not great with the morning commute for the next couple of hours. take a look at where the rain is. it is mostly to the south. we had our friday, friday night, flooding, especially the worcester area. for the month in boston, we're above average by more than an inch. that has not happened around here, as you know, for a good long while. the rain is helping, but still despite all that rain, look at our deficit for the year, up over 9 inches. we keep getting these rain events. that's a good thing. it will take a lot more to alleviate this drop. the rain moving through is

inch of rain. boston north not expecting more than a couple of sprinkles. notice this area of rain collapsing here and focusing itself across rhode island. this is heading right into southeastern massachusetts. so not expecting much more than a sprinkle at best around the worcester area and if you live along the pike or northward, that's likely all you'll be seeing as well. this area of low pressure racing through this morning and behind it it's going to be breezy but the skies brighten u look at the air mass behind this front. it's cooler to our north. 30's and 40's back behind this. we're sitting at 51 in boston. we have mid 50's on the cape. right around 50 in beverly. a lot of 40's back through worcester county this morning. we've got clouds this morning. again, few of us seeing those showers. notice after 10:00 a.m., nothing but wall-to-wall sunshine through the afternoon. the winds are going to be kicking up as well. we had strong winds yesterday. the winds today out of the west,

higher gusts, and the temperatures will recover to only about 50 in worcester, 57 boston. we could get closer to 60 on cape cod as this area of rain races on. by 8:00 a.m. it's on the cape. skies brighten up. lots of sunshine through the afternoon and during the overnight hours, skies are clear to partly cloudy so the temperatures are going to be dropping tonight. it looks like we're back down in the 30's with some wind. i'm not overly concerned about frost, but bring in chillier area, it's a colder day than today. high temperature may not get to 50 in boston despite sunshine. lots of low to mid 40's north and west of town and that's our starting point tomorrow. it looks like tomorrow night on into wednesday morning there could be some frost. i wanted to show you this. this is wednesday morning out the door. wind chills are going to be running in the 20's through the morning hours. so, yeah, big big pattern change coming. chilly stuff through the middle

into friday. pattern has changed. remember those temperatures last week? 70's, we hit 80. not happening. emily: this morning we're watching a crash along the pike. this accident happened around 12:15. there's a serious crash here on 495 in middleborough northbound near route 28. they still have all lanes shut down. they're hoping to reopen by 5:00 this morning. and plan accordingly. the rest of the ride not too bad. we had road work on the 3 in weymouth. that's gone. construction picked up on 93 south over by the leverett connector. no problems there. the pike is quiet. road work is clearing on 128 over by great plain ave. north of town, no problems. 128 looks okay. so does 93. we're expecting trains and buses to start on schedule. open tolling begins this week.

electronic tolling. mass d.o.t. says it will reduce congestion. if you don't have a transponder yet, cameras will pick up your license plate. emily: a crash between a bus and truck in california early sunday morning. that bus was returning to los angeles from a casino trip plowed into the construction zone where traffic slowed down. investigators are looking into reports that the truck driver did not use his brakes. a civilian ride-along turns into a nightmare in california. an officer tries to pull over this s.u.v., but the vehicle veers away. the driver takes off. a high-speed chase begins and that's when shots are fired, the gunfire forcing the officer to be shot, the woman riding with

broken glass. police are still looking for suspects. randy: the massachusetts state police will honor 66 troopers. police officers and civilians in its annual fall state house award ceremony. among those to be honored, three state police special ops officers. they will heavy the medal of proposed purchase of time warner is facing scrutiny in washington, d.c. the company wants to buy time warner for $85.4 billion. a senate antitrust sub committee says it will hold a hearing next month. the clinton and trump campaigns have expressed concern about that potential deal. randy: gas prices are down. 4 cents nationally. the average cost of regular gasoline is now at 2.25.

average at 2.20 per gallon. industry analysts trilby lundberg say the drop is the first in 11 weeks. asian shares mostly higher overnight thanks to strong economic data out of japan. this week the attention will likely turn to newly released u.s. growth data. right now stock futures here are higher. emily: you're trending stories this morning. an australian olympic swimmer is thanking a fan for pointing out a concerning mole on his chest. mack horton posted this photo on instagram. the 20-year-old gold medalist thanked the fan who emailed the team doctor about that mole. he said it was, quote, a very good call. randy: bill murray receives a lifetime achievement award at the kennedy center. he thanked his brother for

performances included roasts of murray, turning down roles and not returning phone calls. emily: hundreds of women protest in yoga pants. this march was in response to a letter sent in to the "barrington times," a man saying women over 20 should not wear the tight-fitting pants. he called them unforgiving, especially for aging women. he later said this was all the joke. the group ended their parade with a yoga lesson. randy: sense of humor on their part. emily: a disappointing end for seahawks and cardinals fan. randy: then new on the eyeopener at 5:00, college shopping season well underway. there are three mistakes we have this morning some students make

any survivors. emily: police have arrested this man wanted in three different robberies. he's accused of robbing a wendy's in dracut and a walgreens in lowell. there was a woman who drove a getaway car in one of the robberies. dracut police say 75-year-old kathryn lucier was last seen o burdette road. she suffers from alzheimer's and parkinson's disease. she was last seen wearing a pink shirt and gray sweatpants. randy: two men who died in a construction accident will be honored next spring. kelvin mattocks and robert higgins died. they pay tribute to laborers

state and federal investigators are investigating what happened. emily: our partners at the "enterprise" say there was a fire. randy: more trouble for boston latin school involving the dress code there. students arero to enforce the existing code saying it targets girls and people of color. the dress code bars see-through clothing, spaghetti straps, leggings and any gang-related clothing. more than 500 students have signed a petition asking administrators to reconsider this code. more unred in north dakota. 126 people were taken into

head of the charles regatta. thousands packed the bank of the charles this weekend. the race wrapped up yesterday afternoon. saturday got off to a rainy start. the weather yesterday was a lot better and, of course, beautiful but still a bit of a challenge for those in the water with the strong wind. emily: it was blustery. it reminds me of winnie the pooh. this is what he's talking about. cindy: blustery. exactly. winds were 50, 60 miles an hour. this was a gust, not a sustained wind. edgartown gusting over 50. in boston at logan, we had wind gusts at 40 miles an hour. in worcester, we had a gust close to 40 miles an hour. it was pretty wild yesterday with those winds. winds are much calmer this morning, sustained, closer to 10

morning is a system racing through. the winds will kick up a little more as we get into the afternoon. there's a cluster here of some showers really focusing itself south of the pike this morning toward you in southeastern massachusetts, the cape and islands. this will be with you for the next few hours. emerging sunshine in boston. 60 from new york city to philly and david kwiatkowski. there is and west. up in the dakotas, not getting out of the 50's. a cool air dry mass building in from canada is the story this week and much colder week ahead. cool days and chilly nights. we're going to be near freezing tonight. there likely will be frost around here as we get into wednesday morning and possibly again on thursday morning as well. so still breezy tomorrow. temperatures may not get out of the upper 40's. same on wednesday. could be frost in the morning hours with a little bit of wind.
