cindy: we're starting here and we're going doing -- randy: a little bit. emily: okay. cindy: bundle up. dress for november instead of october. it's cold out there. 30's and 40's on the map. boston is 43. you see on the north shore, beverly in the mid 30's, worcester down to 36. orange, you have dropped below that freezing mark, and we're hovering in the 30's from plymouth to norwood. it is cold and there's not dealing with frost this morning. but the skies above mainly clear for now. there's still a storm system spinning to our north. as high pressure noses in, it kicks up that wind. winds 10, 20 miles an hour. they will gust higher. temperatures dip down as we approach sunrise. should be running in the low 40's by midmorning. mid-40's at lunchtime. we'll hold in the 40's all day long. i think about 48 the best we do

police most wanted. he's one of two people charged in the plain street murder of jerrod cohen. smith was arrested just before midnight in fall river and is expected in court today. >> i was supposed to have a son like him for 20 years. he'd always tell me he loves me dad. he was just a great kid. emily: heartbreak a day after a horrific crash on 495 in middleborough. four young men and a wrong-way driver all killed. randy: a such for answers there. doug: good morning. state police still trying to investigate and learn why that driver ended up on the wrong side of the road, that as we're learning more about the victims. kraig diggs' father identified his son as one of the victims as well as two of the boys' cousins and friends. they were headed to colleges in

cape. a driver from fall river was going the wrong way on 495 crashing into the car those young men were in, hitting them head on. balloons released at a vigil in harwich honoring the victims. a cousin of the three of them paying tribute. >> they were three different, unique personalities, and i just feel like they can never be replaced. >> they're going to live with us forever. they're in our hearts and they're in our minds, and it's sad. doug: jordan fisher. the names of the other victims are expected to be officially released later today. we're live in middleborough. doug meehan, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: thank you. right now three people are hurt after this rollover crash. this happened in revere. a 17-year-old driver lost control on 145, route 145, just before 8:00 last night. the s.u.v. flipped over. the driver and two passengers taken to the hospital. one passenger with serious injuries.

work is underway in nashua, new hampshire, to keep people safe around storm drains after the death of a 16-year-old boy who fell into one. police believe that jacob goulet fell down a drain friday night. his body was recovered in the merrimack river in tyngsboro mild away. city employees are installing tamper-proof bolts and locks on those drain covers along with heavy manhole covers instead of aluminum grates. emily: new this morning, into whether the company that runs the mbta commuter rail violated civil rights rails. it comes from a decision by keolis to cancel 17 trains on the fairmount line. it runs through hyde park, dorchester. moving the trains to more affluent communities raises questions. a keolis spokeswoman tells "the

newscast. president obama on jimmy kimmel last night criticizing the republican candidate. >> if you are wanting to say anything and do anything, even when it undermines everything that's been built by previous generations, you know, that's -- that's a problem. erika: a new cnn poll gives hillary clinton a five-point o emily? emily: thank you. a busy first day for early voting in massachusetts. in boston alone, more than 4,000 people cast ballots yesterday, and there was a long line here in the south end for much of the day. you can vote early through november 4. after that, you'll have to wait until election day on the 8th. we have a list of early polling locations for you on our wcvb mobile app. randy: breaking overnight, a tentative deal between harvard university and its dining hall employees.

1:15 this morning. those employees began a strike earlier this month calling for higher wages and no changes to their health benefits package. a vote on the deal is scheduled for tomorrow. the employees could return by thursday. there is increased security in durfee high school in fall river as students will have to go through metal detectors after police say a student brought a bb gun to school. students tipped them off to this picture on snapchat taken at school monday morning. they put the school on lockdown. the officers did. eventually tracking down that student back at his house. the 15-year-old was then arrested. new this morning -- boston public school closures are back on the table. the school system's long-term financial board is expected to release a report today. it will detail options that could lead to $100 million in savings.

emily: a search is underway for victims of a scoutmaster arrested for sexual assault. eugene perreault was a scoutmaster. multiple people have come forward to accuse perreault of abuse and at least one of the alleged victims was younger than 13 years old at the time. perreaul health officer. he was removed from that post and is out on bail. police are asking for your help identifying this man here. he's wanted in connection with the robbery of a 75-year-old woman in dorchester. it happened sunday afternoon on hallet street. the woman says the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her purse and took off. anyone with information should contact boston police. randy: fascinating theory.

than average temperatures. we should be still in the upper 50's, close to 60 this time of year. we're not going to get out of the 40's the next couple of days, and the overnight temperatures dropping into the 20's in some locations tonight and again tomorrow night and already we have a freeze warning posted. north shore suburbs. the growing season has ended the farther west you get. that's why you're not colored. temperatures going to be just as cold for you. so tonight looks like we're going to s precautions. 36 in worcester area right now. 31 as you're stepping out in orange. you see mid 30's in the north shore. plymouth in the upper 30's. the wind is still stirring. it's kept temperatures up a few degrees overnight, believe it or not. it is creating a wind chill as you step out. look at the direction that wind is blowing, from the west-northwest. it's going to be with us all day long, sustained winds 10, 15, close to 20 miles an hour.

chilly feeling sort of day. but it's tapping into this air mass that's even colder to our north and west. even though we have sunshine today, temperatures will struggle. storms still spinning to our north. high pressure nosing in. in between, we get those winds. not much in the way of cloud cover this morning. a few clouds bubble up as the day wears on. low 40's the best we do out through the worcester hills. upper 40's boston through the america mac valley. we may -- merrimack valley. we may touch 50 parts of the southre cape. that is below average. you can see the absence of cloud cover today. we get into tonight as well and the skies are still mainly clear. that is going to allow those temperatures to drop as the winds die down a bit. should be below freezing in worcester with some upper 20's in orange. we're near that freezing mark in all the suburbs here just outside the city of boston. even in town, we should be down in the 30's tonight, something we have not done in a long time in boston. tomorrow we're stuck in the 40's. a lot of sunshine tomorrow as high pressure is sitting on top

asian stocks mixed as upbeat manufacturing reports were followed by weak data groet. stock futures here are higher. a ruling in the volkswagen emissions cheating scandal is expected today. a federal judge will decide whether to approve a nearly $15 billion settlement. that deal gives most affected car owners of having the company buy their cars back. if largest auto scandal settlement in u.s. history. aheads-up to affordable care act consumers. prev -- premiums will jump an average of 25% next year. that means $300 a month. that hike is blamed on insurers raising prices. the government saying most consumers won't notice that increase as about 85% of them receive federal subsidies.

eleanor miele and gregory morin were both killed when the s.u.v. plowed into the front of sweet tomatoes. wicked local reports miele's husband george is seeking compensation from the driver bradford casler. the lawsuit filed earlier this month seeks damages for alleged negligence and compensation for personal loss. the lawsuit could take three years or more to resolve if not settled. now, bradford casler, the driver, has pleaded n to two counts of motor vehicle homicide. his next court date is in december. live in newton this morning, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: sera, thank you. a devastating moment in boston. this morning we're hearing from the man in this photo who tried to save two workers trapped in a flooded trench. that picture taken by "the herald" on the south end friday as that man realized nothing could be done. you can see the anguish on steve

knees. he tells us he knew two men were trapped, water filling over their heads. he tied a cable around his waist and jumped in, feeling around for the workers, but the wall had collapsed around them, and smith knew it was too late. >> when you close your eyes, you see them. send my love and my prayers to their family. let them know i tried and i'm sorry. emily: the workers were killed. mayor walsh is concerned that some of the work being done in the city is not being done with safety in mind. he says mostly private contractors are involved in those instances. randy: police in new hampshire are investigating after these pills were found in a vending machine. the prescription pills were discovered at the rochester house of pizza. a woman told police that her daughter put three quarters in the prize dispensing machine, and one of the containers had four pills. police say that they are going

oklahoma for the suspect in a violent crime spree there. police say that michael vance shot four people, including two police officers. he then killed his aunt and uncle, stole their car, according to officers. he livestreamed his getaway on facebook taunting law enforcement. u.s. marshals are also looking for vance. they say he's armed and dangerous and has a medical condition that he may be trying to spread. emily: at least 59 police trainees are dead in pakistan academy in a southwestern city overnight. another 116 people were hurt in the attack, mostly trainees and paramilitary troops. they were asleep when five to six militants wearing suicide vests bombarded that camp. some cadets were taken hostage during the attack, which lasted five hours. randy: a 9-month-old baby and her mother were not hurt when their s.u.v. went in this river. it happened monday morning in fremont, new hampshire. police say the woman pulled over
