ben: breaking news at 5:00, a woman is injured after she got trapped between two cars in a -- jc: the investigation into how this happened. ben: the murder suspect who streamed his getaway on facebook and the potential health scare he is causing. >> i will show you where there is a freeze warning, and tracking snowflakes. >> from boston's news later, 5:00. ben: breaking news at 5:00, a woman is injured after she got trapped between two cars in a crash. good evening, i'm ben simmoneau. jc: i'm jc monahan. it happened this afternoon on warren street in waltham. that's where we find newscenter 5's john atwater. john: police are in the process of towing the cars away but you can see the extensive damage to

woman is in the hospital with serious injuries outside a convenience store. we'll show you the feview, the woman got pinned. witnesses -- the man that owns the sedan felt the impact, and was able to prove the car rw woman. police say a watertown woman went in the blue jeep that caused this crash. a five-year-old of the car was also injured, although the injuries are minor. right now police are still trying to determine what caused this woman to ram into this whi te jeep. john atwater, wcvb newscenter 5. ben: right now, five people are recovering after this bus crash in quincy.

newscenter 5's shaun chaiyabhat is live in quincy with an update. johnshaun: you can see that the school bus is still stuck in the side of the house. what caused the chain reaction crash is still being investigated. no one was inside when the bus clouds -- when the bus plowed through. the kids are still shaken up. hospital, and the woman in the bus and suv were also taken to the hospital. the school bus lost control and hit a telephone pole, hit the suv, then slammed into the side of the house. neighbors say they have been complaining about this curve, saying that drivers often speed and lose control.

shaun: police do not know what caused the bus driver to lose control, but will test him for alcohol and drugs, normal procedure after a school bus accident. national grid is here waiting to fix the broken telephone pole, and as you can see, the area remains closed as police continue to investigate. shaun chaiyabhat, wcvb newscenter 5. life-threatening injuries after this crash in egleston square. boston police on the scene on washington street this afternoon. the crash is under investigation right now. jc: right now a son is charged in the murder of his father. investigators were at the home they shared in dedham this morning. newscenter 5's todd kazakiewich was in the courtroom for the -- and joins us live. todd: this happened in the middle of the night and right

crew is still on scene. family members are distraught, but this is not the first time their son has attacked the father. >> you are charged with murder. the court will enter a not guilty plea on your behalf. todd: 25-year-old alexander anderson showing little reaction as the evidence against him is presented during his arraignment in dedham district court. prosecutors say he admits to attacking his sleeping father, paul anderson, murdering him in the middle of the night here in the home they shared at 62 lower police say the son called 911 around 2:00 a.m., right after the vicious assault. >> officers who responded saw mr. paul anderson on the floor at the bottom of the stairs, suffering from numerous wounds to his head, neck, and face. todd: alex anderson is taken into custody, waives his miranda rights, and then confesses to the crime. >> and during this statement, he did admit to his father aggravating him, recently, and

decided to go into his father's bedroom. todd: the inside of the home so gory, a crime cleanup crew shows up this afternoon. investigators say after initially stabbing, choking, and punching his father, alex anderson admits going to get a deadly weapon. >> at some point, he left the room, went downstairs, and retrieved a hammer from a kitchen drawer, and then used the hammer to strike his father's head a number of times. and then mr. anderson admitted that he then threw his father down the stairs, and then -- the stairs. todd: he was rushed to norwood hospital where he was pronounced dead. we are saved a copy of a restraining order he took out against his son. details on that ahead at 6:00. talk toben: nicole certainly ard with a vengeance today, all across the region.

have the freeze warning in effect across eastern parts of southeastern massachusetts. a little strip of rain, but when he gets here sometime before thursday, it could lead to some snowflakes. we will talk about it coming up. jc: a disturbing surprise for a mother and daughter in new hampshire -- a toy vending machine giving out prescription education. it happened in rochester. rochester house of pizza has removed the vending machine. the owner says he has no idea how the drugs ended up inside it. >> we went over and i put the quarters in and she got to toys -- the third one came out. >> one of them was blood pressure medication and the other was a kidney stone medication. jc: police are looking at surveillance to see if anyone

jc: it's day two of a massive manhunt across oklahoma for a murder suspect who live streamed his getaway on facebook. ben: police say michael vance tried to cut off the heads of his aunt and uncle and shot four other people. tonight, he could be anywhere. today, a statewide manhunt now involving the fbi and u.s. marshals for this suspected murderer. >> he was loaded, ready to go. wounded by the alleged killer michael vance. vance, a suspect on the run wanted for murdering his aunt and uncle in a small town outside of oklahoma city, armed with an ak-47 after the run-in with police, he takes off in their patrol pick up livestreaming his getaway on facebook. >> wow, that really hurt. see, i'm bleeding where the police shot me. ben: he allegedly goes on to shoot three other innocent

so i got down, but i'd already been shot. ben: vance steals a car. >> he's got an assault rifle. he tells us to get out of the car. ben: then another. >> i'm about to steal another car like right now. this is going to be intense. ben: leaving behind a trail of terror. >> right there's where the bullet went in. ben: this man waking up to gunfire finding his friend in a pool of blood. >> i hate it, but at least the lord didn't let him get killed. facebook in 24 hours, so police say it's possible he could be dead or incapacitated from being shot by police. but police stress he also could be anywhere by this point, and the wanted poster warns he has a medical condition he may be trying to spread. jc: to your economy this tuesday. a federal judge has approved volkswagen's $15 billion buyback plan in response to its emissions scandal. the company is set to start buying back cars from affected owners next month. the deal marks the largest auto-scandal settlement in u.s.

deliberately rigging its emission systems to dodge standards. it still faces billions more in fines and possible criminal liability for the fraud. ben: the top-selling pickup truck in the country coming out on the bottom in a recent headlight test. the insurance institute for highway safety's latest headlight ratings giving ford's f-150 multiple poor ratings on both its halogen and led headlights. the study looked at the effectiveness of the headlights in 11 different 2016 and 2 only one pickup truck, the 2017 honda ridgeline, earned a top rating of good. jc: let's let mother nature show us how it is done. that's how you spread the light. ben: it looks like fall. jc: it does. and you no, chilly. ben: breezy, too.

[laughter] harvey: amidst all the laughter, we can show you what it's like in worcester -- we had a couple reports from worcester, sterling, with a few snowflakes in the air. remember, the airport is 1000 feet up. that is indicative of the chilly air. we have a few schools in the mountains of vermont, new hampshire, maine. then the numbers go back up and we have some wind -- isn't that beautiful?

ready to jump into the 30's and it already feels like it is at the freezing mark in worcester. it will drop to the freezing envelope away from the immediate shoreline. the wind will be down some mixing in with high temperatures . it will take a while for that to get here but this little strip of moisture -- i want to give you an idea of how it will pan out. it really settles over us tomorrow night to make it past tomorrow and then the precipitation approaches.

enough so i'm not expecting much in the way of snow. you may get some slow or sneak in the berkshires and then the further north you go, the better chance you will have some accumulation. we may wind up with a snowstorm before all is said and done. here you can see the clear skies, the winco and that could be the case into thursday morning. then the clouds will move in from the west. starting out as snow around the berkshires later on. it should begin around the time of the evening commute. then you see it lifting to the north as the mild ocean air

in. we could see some small accumulation, higher terrain, but nothing close to boston. let's check it out for the next several days. thursday, eventually it turns on. just enough wind for the cool temperatures to feel like the 20's. it is going to be pretty chiy. system significant rainfall -- we could average about an inch and it looks like it should be fairly widespread. then we will get some improving weather with a chilly, average to below average temperature

ben: the vatican says no more scattering of ashes. jc: the church published new guidelines today for catholics who want to be cremated. it says ashes need to be stored in a sacred, church-approved location like a church or cemetery, not kept at home, and not scattered. the guidelines also say ashes should not be divided among family members. the catholic church did not allow cremation until 1963 and says burial is still preferred. ben: doctors the guidelines also say ashes should not be divided among family members. say women are closing a gender gap. jc: but it may not be a good thing. coming up, changes in the way they drink. ben: and you will meet a student in natick who was overcoming her health challenges. jc: then experiences in the voting booth.
