morning. we've got 20s in worcester county. worcester below freezing and boston in the upper 30s for the first time since late april around here. so we've got the cold all the way down to the cape. 37 in hyannis. we are talking about a bit of a windchill. it feels like it's below freezing in boston. that windchill is only 23 in worcester. you want to bundle up as you're heading outside. skies mainly clear. high pressure in control for one more day, so a lot of sunshine. this will come in tomorrow. it's a dry one today. sun up at 7:11. by 8:00 a.m., still only 37 degrees. mid 40s for the lunch hour. way below average for this time of year. we'll time out the rate on the way tomorrow and some of us could start with a wintry mix. let's get you to the roads. >> a check of the pike by

both ways. the rest of the ride quiet. road work looking good into boston. along the expressway, there's construction by columbia road. more road work on 128 southbound side. only the shoulder is open from route 9 to kendrick street and northbound construction highland avenue up to route 9. construction along the pike by the weston toll. 93 south looking good. we're expecting trains and buses on schedule. >> right now. firefighters are investigating the cause of this fire at two momentum family homes in everett. the flames spread to a neighboring triple decker. the red cross says 10 people are left without a home. nobody was seriously hurt. police are searching for this man in connection with an attempted kidnapping in boston. a young girl assaulted on her

plea from her family this morning. >> her family, as well as police, hoping the public will help out in tracking down that man who so far investigators are calling a person of interest. this all happened here in roxbury yesterday morning at the corner of blue hill avenue and brookford street where family members say the girl was grabbed. she managed to fight off the attacker. police say a passerby helped her get away. her stepfather now pleading for answers. >> if anybody knows that person, please report them because it can be your kids too. >> the girl was shaken but not seriously hurt. her stepfather says that she was insistent on going to school. today, her stepfather is planning to be with her as she walks towards the bus stop.

wcvb newscenter 5. >> new this morning, the mother of the driver accused of going the wrong way on interstate 495 in middleborough killing four people is speaking out. the mother tells the globe that valantein burson had committed herself, her life to making a difference and had just started her dream job working at a treatment center. she had five speeding tickets since 2004. her license was suspended six november. it was reinstated in january. burrson was killed when she slammed head-on into a car with four college students inside. police hope the toxicology tests should shed new light on this crash. >> a bus crash that injured several kids in quincy is under investigation. the attention turning to the driver. students suffered minor injuries yesterday after their school bus lost control, crashing into a telephone pole and s.u.v. and

s.u.v. were also hurt, not seriously. the home that was hit cracked off its foundation. but the owner says her thoughts are with the kids. >> step in the bus again, they must be traumatized. that's what i feel sad about. >> police are investigating for mechanical and medical problems or if drugs or alcohol were involved. neighbors say the curve is dangerous and people tend to speed. >> a topsfield man is recovering af hundreds of pounds of concrete were dangling over his head. the eye's antoinette antonio is in topsfield with the lifesaving rescue. >> firefighters say time was of the essence in this rescue. all thanks to the man's cell phone, as well as quick-moving firefighters, they were able to pull this off in a matter of

roof of this porch on hill street monday night. he was stuck in the 10-foot-deep hole. luckily, he had his cell phone on him and called 911. firefighters realizing the danger overhead, they moved quickly. they lowered themselves in and pulled the man out after just 20 minutes. he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and he has been released. the home remains unsafe this morning and there's still no word on why that floor co morning, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. >> commitment 2016. a long time federal prosecutor will be watching for fraud and discrimination in polling places across massachusetts. u.s. attorney carmen ortiz announced the appointment on tuesday. early voting has already been heavy in this heated election season. gop nominee donald trump has urged his supporters to monitor polling places, something that

[laughter] >> we're below freezing. we've got windchills in the 20s. so it's cold. colder than yesterday morning, actually. if you were outside yesterday, wow. this morning you'll go some spots. temperatures are running mostly in the 30s, even in boston 38 degrees. worcester 31. we've got mid 30s on the cape this morning. and there are pockets where we are below freezing. 20s through northern worcester county. we've got the freeze warning in place. a lot of areas that hadn't seen a freeze up until this point, you're seeing it this morning. temperatures at or below freezing. they will stay that way through

for a lot of us. boston, first time we've been in the 30s since april 25. this is the coldest we've been in a while. the wind is kicking up. these are the windchills. feeling like it's below freezing pretty much everywhere except nantucket this morning. so you get the idea. the winds are coming in from the west-northwest about 10 to 15 miles an hour. overall today, not as much wind as the past few days and the skies are still mainly clear. one exception around cape the outer cape. this is are ocean effect clouds. that's a function of the wind flow. high pressure is nosing in. so another day with a good amount of sunshine. however, this rain from minneapolis through chicago -- we're watching this tonight for the world series game in cleveland. it could bring rain in. this is what we'll be watching locally coming up for tomorrow. we'll have a lot of sunshine today, a few clouds this morning. notice the winds still out

but not around 20 like the last couple of days. 48 boston, upper 40s on cape cod today. so cooler than it was yesterday afternoon. but a good amount of sunshine outside the outer cape. skies start out tonight clear. after mid night toward dawn tomorrow, we'll see clouds from the west. temperatures tonight will have a chance to fall once again. 20s and mid 30s near the coastline. so it's another cold night. here comes t by noon tomorrow, this is approaching parts of western, northern new england likely going to see snow. the mountains getting several inches of rain. for us it is a rain maker primarily. looks like an inch or so of rain across our area. your morning commute tomorrow just fine.

higher elevations could see a brief burst of snow or sleet, then it changes to rain. rain for the evening commute, heaviest overnight. first thing friday night we get the rain and it tapers off. looks like we're jumping into the 50s this weekend. wow, right? couple of showers on sunday. but after being in the 40s for several days, even those 50s still below average. >> it's better than 37. >> this is true. >> the roads live look at the pike by allston/brighton. eastbound, you can see traffic is light here. we're watching what's left of the overnight road work. right now on the expressway, construction clearing in a couple of minutes by columbia road and then south of town no problems. 95 looks good, 24 as well. route 3 issue-free. the pike is quiet. construction from highland

north of town no problems. we're expecting trains and buses to start on schedule. >> this is unusual. cases of mumps at two colleges in new england. the students at framingham state university tested positive for the viral infection. administrators say the student has been immune used. according to the department of public health, the vaccine is 88% effective. the university of new hampshire is reporting three cases of the mumps. both schools to stop the spread of the disease. >> your health this morning. the fda is stepping up warnings for testosterone and other steroids. the latest warning is targeted at prescribers. the federal government says the drugs can cause healthcares, infertility, aggression, and can be easily abused. testosterone labelling will be revised to reflect that new warning. a reminder this halloween.

they have caused eye infection and possibly blindness. they are not regulated like prescription lenses are. >> a new study suggesting equal pie for women globally is still 170 years away. the study by the world economic forum claims the progress is closing the workplace gender gap. it's slow though since the peak in 2013, the study found women around the world earn just over half as much as their male counterparts despite working more hours. asian markets dropping in part because of falling oil prices. u.s. stock futures are lower. investors will be watching for new home sales numbers. >> more bad news for chipotle after a series of health scares, including one that sickened 140 boston college students last year. the "washington journal" reports

seriously hurt. a 25-year-old man accused of murdering his father in dedham is held without bail. prosecutors say alex anderson admitting killing his father, beating him with a hammer and throwing him downstairs. paul anderson had taken out a restraining order against his son in 2011. but they had been living in the same house. >> a woman suffers injuries after a crash in waltham. police say 66-year-old woman was one rear-ended the other, pinning that woman. a mother and child in the car that allegedly caused the crash suffered minor injuries. at this point, no charges have been announced. a level three sex offender is facing new charges of animal cruelty. mbta police say witnesses recorded john bowen monday night hitting his dog, lifting her off the ground by the leash.

to register as a sex offender, according to the herald. the 9-month-old husky is at an animal shelter undergoing an evaluation. >> congressional committee wants to review documents represented to an enlistment bonus scandal at the california national guard. that's after the pentagon demanded thousands of soldiers pay back their reenlistment bonuses of $15,000 or more from a decade ago. the committee wants to hold accountable those w t mismanaged the bonus programs, which allegedly awarded soldiers who did not qualify. several lawmakers are calling for the pentagon to stop demanding payback, saying the soldiers earned that. >> a win for the cubs. trouble early on the mound.

happened in boston since may. we've got this dip in the jet stream keeping temperatures below average. we should be in the upper 50s, close to 60s this time of year. you know who's loving the cold? the ski areas. this is wild cat mountain. look at this. the snow guns are going. they are making some snow and they may get a little bit of natural snow here as we watch this system bringing rain from minneapolis to chicago this morning. as this bumps into air over the northeast, there will nice across central and northern parts of new england tomorrow into friday. we'll see sunshine today, temperatures in the 40s. 50s from new york to d. c. we've got the system moving through chicago today. should be ok for the morning commute tomorrow. as we get into the afternoon, primarily a rainstorm, but there could be a little bit of snow
