lifting north. you are getting it across the new hampshire sea coast. through portsmouth, heavy downpours from beverly to gloucester. we dry out around the boston area. hyannis to chatham, we are getting in on some rainfall here. so even if the rain isn't falling, there are still some big puddles out there. there is a wind advisory until 10. gusts running over 20, even 30 miles an hour. we have the milder out the door. lower 50's right now boston. worcester sitting at 44 degrees. as this rain continues to lift on out, storm center is going to bring in a westerly wind on the back side. we will see showers taper off around 7:00 this morning. the skies brighten 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 this morning, but clouds may fill back in as temperatures drop this afternoon. so here are your highs. we'll hit these before lunchtime. and that westerly wind is going to bring in some cooler temperatures this afternoon.

investigation. a 38-year-old man shot at them before apparently killing himself. police evacuated the building as they tried to get that man to surrender, but he would not. no officers were hurt. right now, commuters are bracing for major changes. we are just hours away from the start of open tolling in massachusetts. we're talking major demolition. traffic changes. thousands of drivers impacted. randy: the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is at the western tolls w warnings about tonight. antoinette: randy, this has potential to be a traffic nightmare with all of these changes happening. take a look at the toll plaza. this is the last time it will look like this. in a matter of hours, major changes get underway. here's what you need to know this morning. at 10:00 tonight, open tolling takes effect. that means no more cash on the mass pike. this weekend, toll plaza demolition begins and those new traffic patterns take effect. so what does that mean for all of these drivers out there?

toll plazas are dismantled, you have to drive around that work zone, so traffic will be funneled to the sides of the plaza and then it will switch through the middle meaning that you have to slow down and stay in your lane. in other words, plan for delays. as for the money, the price changes i want to tell you about. from i-84 to boston, it will cost you 3.60 with a massachusetts e-z pass transp transponder frchlt 495 to boston, 2.65. all of these prices are higher if you don't have that e-z pass or one from another state. plan ahead. even the d.o.t. says this really could be quite a mess for some time. we're live from the weston tolls. randy: we've been hearing from a lot of folks having issues getting that e-z pass

grabbed while walking near blue hill ave. she managed to fight off the attacker and was not hurtment. randy: right now, vice presidential candidate mike pence is getting ready to get back on the campaign trail after a scare in new york. his plane slid off the runway at laguardia airport last night. this was in the middle of a rainstorm. the plane was slowed by safety barriers designed to catch aircraft that overshoot the runway. pennsylvania, one of the battleground states in this campaign, and erika is here with the new numbers. erika: that's right. the latest poll puts hillary clinton 7 points ahead in that battleground state. both campaigns are in pennsylvania today. bill clinton has two rallies in the state. meantime, in ohio, donald trump targeting foreign policy with a

they will join clinton in orlando on saturday. healey will also tour the site of the nightclub massacre. emily: a new report from the no on 2 campaign says charter schools employ an average of one special education teacher per 36 students with disabilities. but charter school administrators tell "the herald the department of elementary and secondary education confirmed it does subsidize special education at charters. also new this friday -- parents of boston school children outraged over the mayor's makeover plans for city hall. the extreme makeover could cost more than $100,000, and parents tell "the herald" that money should be put toward the school. the proposal comes just a day after the city announced $100 million in cost-cutting measures

competition between the schools and city hall. randy: new overnight, a security breach at the suffolk county house of corrections. someone tapped the jail house phone calls made by former new england patriot aaron hernandez. it happened in 2014 while he was waiting for his first-degree murder trial. the breach was discovered during a routine security check. days to activate. the influx of applications has really overwhelmed the system. so what mass d.o.t. is doing is putting in a six-month grace period. anyone with these transponders, you'll still get a bill in the mail but you will receive a discount. randy: two cape cod doctors going to court to bring the massachusetts. cape cod and the islands d.a. michael o'keefe says the procedure is prohibited until a new law is passed. the attorney general's declined to comment. right now, police searching for a suspicious man who approached an elementary school student in concord. police say the man called out to the boy from his car yesterday afternoon offering him candy. the child walked away but looked back and saw the man taking

question him. emily: marathon bombing survivors continue to get their belongings back, items left behind at the finish line. and for one survivor, it's bringing some closure. erika brannock says she wasn't sure she was ready to see the clothes she was wearing just over three years ago. the maryland teacher was cheering her mother on when the bombs went off. brannock says it was emotional seeing her shoe along with other items held by the f.b.i. for evidence. her cell phone was frozen in time >> and i had 67 text messages and over 10 voicemails from that day. it was very emotional, but it was also healing at the same time to kind of come full circle. emily: the f.b.i. says it started releasing evidence to survivors back in august. ideas on how to prevent wrong-way crashes. randy: the suggestion that could save lives and a suspected

randy: right now, a barnstable man is behind bars accused in two burglaries. we're hearing from the homeowner who came face-to-face with that suspect. the 61-year-old woman said she caught richard herrera here outside her home. herrera put the car in reverse and sped away. run me over, but the door, it knocked me on the ground. randy: the woman did get herrera's license plate number, called police, who were down the street at another home he is accused of breaking into. herrera has served two separate prison sentences for breaking and entering. emily: breaking overnight out of new hampshire -- updates on the standoff forcing people out of a hampton beach motel and a heroic rescue from a

morning for the rest of us. cindy: you got it. we were dealing with the rain here, but that snow obviously accumulated. the winds were strong. they had power problems in the western part of the state. emily: already. cindy: is that october? it didn't look like october. neither do these numbers. look at the snowfall totals. up over six inches. that was the highest one i could find in rowe. westhampton had five. a lot of snow and strong winds. we saw the wind advisory along the southeasterly winds that could gust to 40. they did gust to 60 in east falmouth. nantucket gusting over 40 as well. here on the cape, we have the wind, the rain. hyannis, chatham to wellesley. we dry out in boston. notice how the rain is filling back in along 495 and up into northern worcester county. you see that around the leominster area as well. this whole storm system is shifting north and eastward now so that plume of heavier rain is

killed along with the driver in a wrong-way crash on 495 in middleborough. lawmakers at a joint committee on transportation suggested additional signage and painted arrows indicating travel direction on the on-ramps. the state's chief engineer says she's going to be bringing these ideas back to the traffic and safety unit. investigators are looking for the cause of this huge fire in new york city. a firefighter actually rap one person trapped on the fifth floor. the rope burned through just seconds later. yesterday's fire did kill one person and injured five residents and seven firefighters. emily: president obama announces commutations for 98 federal inmates. 42 of them had been sentenced to life for drug crimes. yesterday's decision is part of a clemency push that has sped up dramatically in obama's final months. the president has commuted more than 870 sentences during his
