inches of new snow. so that is just such a dichotomy of beautiful and scary scene with the snow. good morning. thanks for joining us. saturday, october 29. i'm antoinette antonio. doug: i'm doug meehan. killington 10 inches of snow. it's out there. thank goodness it's to the north. kelly ann: we are seeing light showers moving through this morning. not even showers. we're calling it drizzle. that's what we're tracking for late this afternoon. things looking relatively dry as these shift off to the east. clouds will stick around. that's going to help keep temperatures on the lower end of the scale. still managing to hit the mid to upper 50's. as we compare that to those wind chills in the 40's yesterday, it is going to feel quite a bit middler heading out today. we are watching that next system to the west. we will be seeing a cold front tomorrow night bringing our next chance of rain to our southern extents. still feeling breezy conditions

occasionally be gusting up to 20 miles an hour, doug. that will be impacting how it feels. doug: kelly ann, thank you. breaking overnight, one person is dead, five others hurt after a crash out on the mass pike. this happened on the westborough-grafton line at 1:30 this morning. police say the crash involved multiple vehicles and is under investigation. antoinette: also breaking this morning, a man seriously injured after a crash in paebd. this happened at 1:30 this morning on route 1 in the southbou crash. we'll bring you new information as it comes into our newsroom. happening right now, open road tolling is now in effect on the mass pike. doug: that means no more cash tolls. it's going to be a busy weekend with more changes on the way. the eye's nicole estaphan live with what you can expect when you hit the roads. nicole? nicole: antoinette, doug, good morning. what you can expect right behind me, take a look. you can see those orange barrels redirecting traffic flow. you want to keep an eye on this,

they just stepped behind the truck, they're keeping an eye on safety, asking everyone to be vigilant. new traffic patterns did start today. drivers are being directed around the defunct toll plazas. the way officials describe the process, the next month sounds, quote, miserable. >> think of this as a snowstorm and when we've always asked the public's help. but think of it as it's going to snow twice a day every day for 22 days both during your morning and your afternoon commute. good. once the toll booths are removed, traffic will flow through the middle. new gantries outfitted with special sensors will collect tolls at several locations scattered along the pike. now, you do not need an e-z pass transponder although it would make your life easier. if you don't have one, keep your eyes on the mailbox. your bills will arrive in bright orange envelopes. there is a six-month grace period. if you get a transponder within that time, those bills will be

investigators say the driver of the car ran a red light. the police chief said it is nothing short of a miracle that everyone survived. doug: to commitment 2016. hillary clinton speaking out on the f.b.i.'s decision to review new emails related to her personal server. the presidential candidate calling on the agency to be open with the public. the f.b.i. announcing the new review in a letter to teenacong. in that writes, in connection with an unrelated case, the f.b.i. has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. that unrelated case, apparently a sexting investigation into clinton aide huma abadin's estranged husband, disgraced former congressman anthony weiner. clinton calls that only a rumor. >> we don't know what to believe, and i'm sure there will be even more rumors. that's why it is incumbent upon the f.b.i. to tell us what

surprise comes 11 days before the election. antoinette: of course, donald trump is wasting no time jumping on this new controversy surrounding his opponent. he lashed out at clinton during an event in iowa last night. >> the f.b.i. would never have reopened this case at this time unless it were a most egregious criminal offense. justice will prevail. antoinette: trump has failing to recommend criminal charges against clinton because of her handling of classified emails. doug: the boston archdiocese is bank-rolling the fight against the legalization of recreational marijuana. "the herald" reporting that the church contributed $850,000 to the campaign for a safe and healthy massachusetts. the archdiocese fears passage of question 4 will have a negative impact on its parishes and social outreach programs.

antoinette: a man accused of kidnapping his girlfriend in londonderry and driving to massachusetts is facing charges. 22-year-old victor rosario turned himself in last night after police issued a warrant for his arrest. he was released on $5,000 bail. rosario is facing multiple charges after he allegedly dragged his girlfriend out of work on thursday afternoon and then drove off with her. a rochester, new hampshire, man pleads guilty to giving a teenager a dea mark ross will spend the next 20 years in prison. 17-year-old eve tarmey was found dead in a rochester motel room last year. her mother, who was also in that motel room, has also pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in december. doug: well, new details on this frightening flight out of chicago. the smoke and flames now being blamed on engine failure. that engine blowing up just before takeoff, and federal investigators are now on the scene. 170 passengers and crew members

about 20 people suffering minor injuries as they made their way off that plane. one passenger describing what happened as the plane was preparing for takeoff. >> we didn't get in the air, and it seemed like the right side engine blew. a big ball of fire. doug: well, that passenger called the evacuation coordinated chaos. officials say the plane was loaded with 43,000 pounds of fuel, and it was leaking. they been devastating. antoinette: another plane up in flames, this one in florida. watch. see that fireball just erupt from that fedex plane sitting on the runway in fort lauderdale? the plane had just landed last night. the pilot says the landing gear collapsed when the plane touched down. both pilots escaped without getting hurt. both scary situations. doug: luckily, not a lot of people got hurt. antoinette: the u.s. economy is on the rise. doug: what experts say is leading to that growth.

doug: 8:12 on this saturday morning. the u.s. economy grew 2.9% during the third quarter, and that's the biggest jump in the last two years. economists say it's thanks mostly to consumer spending and trade. even with the spike, the growth for the year was only about 1.7%, and that's slow by historical standards. antoinette: needham-based trip advisor will be one of the first companies in the nation booking trips to cuba. the travel s federal approval to book flights and other travel arrangements to the island nation. all trips must be considered cultural, business, or a family visit. the u.s. restored diplomatic relations with cuba two years ago. get ready for airline fare prices to climb a little bit higher. american airlines and southwest airlines both announcing this week they are hiking up the cost of flights by $5 each way. the price increase is an effort by the airlines to make up for a

we move through the evening. warm front is moving through. temperatures are relatively mild. we do have those breezy conditions in place because of a storm system to our east. winds will occasionally gust up to 20 miles an hour, especially as you're moving out toward the coast and onto the cape this afternoon. that's nothing compared to the wind gusts of 40 miles per hour yesterday, and those wind chills yesterday afternoon which were down into the 40's. it's going to feel a bit warmer as you're headingut a few showers to the north will try to skirt by. overall, things are looking relatively dry and quiet. that's the outlook as we head into the forecast late tonight, although those clouds are not going to be passing out. they stick around even into your sunday as well. sunday morning, those clouds just barely start to break up. we'll track the next chance of showers as we head into sunday night. temperatures this afternoon, looking to reach the mid to

our next cool-down is looking to hold off until next weekend. antoinette: it is 8:16. checking other stories -- doug: the family of two people killed in a deadly crash are suing the bus company. that bus collided with a tractor-trailer truck near palm springs last weekend. the bus had just left a casino and the families say the driver was speeding and f was properly maintained. antoinette: the state is hoping to reopen shellfish beds in wellfleet next week. officials shut down the area after reports of 75 cases of norovirus associated with eating raw shellfish on the outer cape. the contamination is blamed on an algae affecting shellfish beds. doug: protestors against a

girls. >> it's kind of creepy. you hear about it, but you never think it's going to be where you are. diane: police say it happened at 4:30 in the afternoon. tuesday neared ward park in brookline. >> it's pretty alarm. diane: during a follow-up investigation, police say they learned there was a similar incident that happened on september 28. that time it was around 4:20 in the afternoon near brookline high school. less than a mile away from the latest incident. police say in that case, a man exposed himself to three middle school-aged children. authorities are now investigating to see if the two in the mean time, police are urging residents to be alert and report any suspicious activity. >> i hope they find him soon. diane: police say the man in the incident reported this week is described to be in his mid to late 20's in a gray or silver sedan at the time. in brookline, diane cho, wcvb newscenter 5. doug: all right, diane. thank you. the mbta says no need for alarm today. the smoke-filled trains at the alewife station will be part of

it should run until noontime. bus service will replace red line trains between harvard and alewife all weekend long. according to the t, that's for maintenance and has nothing to do with the exercise. a brockton officer examining an atm broken into and looted yesterday morning. someone entered the building, cut the alarm system's wires and pride open the atm's -- pried no arrests have been made. antoinette: a brockton man will spents next 43 years behind bars for rape and attempted murder. a judge sentenced 54-year-old anthony bunton to prison for the crime. the vicious attack on a woman happened just three years after he was released from prison for another rape.

doug: the person on this scooter may have witnessed an altercation that resulted in a man's death. the attack happened last saturday morning on mass ave. investigators say the person on the scooter is not a suspect. police have arrested 35-year-old peter mcgowan for murder, but they still want to talk to that person. antoinette: a reported break-in and vandalism at the home of a millbury police officer was apparently staged by the officer's wife. on october 17th, a break-in was daniel daly. the report was called in by daly's wife, maria, who also claimed someone spray-painted the couple's house, but the story quickly unraveled, and investigators determined mrs. daly made up the whole thing because of financial problems. >> you have to be desperate to -- you know, to pull that -- try to pull that sort of thing off, especially when your husband's a cop and all of his friends are cops. it's just ridiculous.

antoinette: maria daly will be charged with filing a false police report. her husband was not involved an will not be charged. doug: a mother and her 7-year-old son are recovering after getting hit by a car in hudson, new hampshire. police say it happened on central street just before 8:00 last night. both suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries. police are investigating and so far have not filed any charges against the driver. right now, the search is on for a suspect in an officer-involved shooting. 24-year-old hayden moon is wanted by hampshire, police. that incident happened during a traffic stop yesterday morning. police tried to take moon into custody when they discovered an existing warrant. he allegedly sped off, prompting officers to open fire. >> he was informed there was a warrant, an incident ensued which resulted in the officer using his weapon. doug: they do not consider moon a danger to the public but are asking people who see him to give police a call. 8:38 on your saturday morning.

kelly ann cicalese. antoinette: we saw that rainbow earlier. kelly ann: a little light rain, a little drizzle. just enough to be a nuisance, but nothing compared to the past two days. things are improving as we take a live look outside right now. you can see clouds are still lingering overhead. that will be the case through much of the forecast today. we're seeing just a little glimmer of sun stubborn to pass on through. there's that drizzle that we're tracking moving onto the shore right now. that's going to be continuing to shift eastward. a nice dry break as we head into the afternoon forecast, but we're not completely in the clear. those clouds are sticking around. we'll see that chance for a few showers for later this evening, something that will be passing through rather quickly and we'll be seeing that moving through to the east as we head to the forecast tonight. breezy, that's going to be

onto the coast, especially as you're moving onto the cape. we'll see wind gusts up to 25, 30 miles an hour. then we're tracking that next system which is off to our west, bringing our next chance of rain as we head into your sunday night. temperatures today topping out in the mid to upper 50's. spotty rain chances, but overall that forecast today is looking dry. that's the good news there. winds will occasionally be breezy. they're blowing in from the south and west between 10 to 15 miles per hour. as you move out toward rc upper 50's, worcester is closer to 53 degrees today, and even as we head into the forecast over the next few days, you'll see temperatures staying on the lower end of the scale. upper 50's as we move down to the south as well. bridgewater hitting 57 this afternoon. and the days ahead, we will likely cross into the 60's for your sunday. we are expecting more sun than clouds for your forecast tomorrow. and also more dry opportunities. so your weekend really panning out to be mild.

temperatures will take a bit of a dip. we drop into the 50's for monday, but that sunshine will stick around, and for later next week, we're actually talking about a huge warm-up as temperatures will eventually cross into the 60's. cape and the islands for today, mid to upper 50's expected, but don't forget about those winds. it will make it feel a bit cooler. wind gusts up to 20 to 25 miles an hour. hyannis sitting around 56 degrees today. and the forecast tomorrow, 60's, but down into the 50's as we head into monday. storm system off to our west. let's track that out. as it pushes through into our area, initially, it pushes that milder air into our region and relatively quiet air as well. that's what we're seeing for today. but that cold front for tomorrow night inching toward our area, that dips southward sunday night. as that carries through, it brings that chance of rain mainly in our far southern section. so we'll be watching that. overall, things are looking relatively drive even as we inch

healthy harvest is for the homeless. thanks to the food rescue organization food for free, for decades, the yield from 1/4 acre dubbed the field of greens has been donated to those in need. >> in massachusetts alone, one in nine people struggle with food insecurity. erika: this season going to boston's pine street inn, their van loaded and a face 20 miles away unloaded to be served here same day. >> nice wedges like that. yeah. erika: the executive chef has >> only fresh produce and fruit we would get on a normal basis is product that's rescued from grocery stores, which is great, but that's -- it's not a lot. erika: though food for free has provided rescued food for years, this was the first time they planted specifically for the shelter. >> oftentimes when you're getting rescued food, you're not necessarily getting enough of any given item or it may be near the end of its life.

her schoolmates, who were on the bus. police are talking to the driver. antoinette: lynn police are investigating a shooting at a home in breed square. police called in to the scene at 11:00 last night. at least one person was taken to the hospital. that victim's condition is unknown. doug: the clinton campaign calling on the f.b.i. to release details about a new batch of emails. the emails discovered on devices seized during the sexting investigation of former new york congressman anthony weiner. the devices used by weiner and his estranged wife, huma abadin, a top clinton aide. the f.b.i. says it is unclear if the emails are relevant. the mbta is getting ready to run a training drill. the simulation is set for 9:00 this morning. in just about five minutes. it should run about noon.
