our region tonight with temperatures sitting at 60 degrees this morning. so abnormally warm out there. notice too much of new hampshire, temperatures are in the 40's closer to where they should be. in providence, mid 50's. we do see an abnormally warm day. in the 60's through muchth through. we have a stubborn cloud deck. we are not seeing much in the way of rainfall. so much of your day looks dry to start. but we are watching what is going on downstream. we do see waves of moisture moving along that front. so we do see storm chances later on.

31-year-old emotionally disturbed man. police say at some point a struggle broke out and the man pulled out a knife. that's when police ran in to assist. the suspect swung repeatedly at the officers as they struggled to get the knife away. the officers were then forced to fire ultimately killing the suspect. let's head out live to the south end. juli? >> this is the apartment to see behind me. police cruisers are coming out to investigate. police responded to the shawmut avenue apartment. ems were the first ones to go in, hoping to calm down the 31-year-old emotionally disturbed man. a struggle broke out and a -- the man pulled out a knife. that's when police ran in to assist. the suspect swung repeatedly at the officers as they struggled to get the knife away. the officers were then forced to fire, ultimately killing the

officers did try to disarm the man but he unfortunately kept coming at the officers and it left them no choice. >> the commissioner tells us emts and police officers are being treated for head and back injuries suffered during the struggle. their conditions are unknown right now. the district attorney's office will take over the investigation. doug: violence breaking out in several dorchester neighborhoods. a woman was killed and a teen injured in a shooting on washington street saturday. one woman was at a nearby store when she heard the first shots. she found the woman lying on the ground. she was shot in the chest and died from her injuries. when police arrived on scene they found a second victim a teenager with non life-threatening injuries. police say they believe the teen was the intended target. neighbors tell us they've had

right now police are reviewing surveillance cameras and talking to witnesses. anyone with information is asked to give police a call. police are also searching for the gunman in a second shooting that happened blocks away when a teenager was shot in the area of geneva avenue around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the victim is expected to be ok. incident on washington street. and coat a 15-year-old is in the hospital and another is facing charges after a house party. -- is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. their fight was that a friday on friday night. a car fire shut down the entrance to storrow drive. you can see firefighters rushing to put out the flames just

doug: good morning. 56 degrees. and co -- antoinette: last night for halloween parties, it was not bad. morning. it is silly -- it is funny how our high temperature stabilized for the night. that means things will only get warmer for today. pure is a look at what is going on overhead because we have clouds that are sick through much of the region. rainfall is off the coast right now and we are dry locally.

we are still looking at temperatures in the 60's as we watch a cold front moving into the area. the same friends that brought cooler conditions into northern parts of new england and it will cool us down tonight and as we fast-forward into monday. we are also seeing waves of moisture moving along the front. this is the same rainfall that will be traveling into buffalo which could have some impact on the patriots game today. that could stick around late tonight. the question is, will this have an impact on the commute tomorrow? clouds will be thick overhead. we move into the afternoon.

the west and pushed eastward. but we are still staying dry. it is a great opportunity to have out as temperatures go into the 60's. scattered initially, they do move into the 9:00 hour. showers will become more numerous and heavy into the area of the cape and through the south shore. late tonight, showers go off the coast with drier air moving in from the west. that means that has you head out for the monday morning commute, things dry out. we see the sunshine breaking through tomorrow and it will stay in place through much of the afternoon tomorrow. high temperatures tomorrow afternoon will be warm and into the 60's for most spots.

the low-mid 60's. downtown boston at 61 degrees, looking to stay above normal. that has been the case for much of october. we are temperatures into the 80's in some spots so very warm conditions to help even out the cool days we saw last week when temperatures topped out in the 40's last month. we are sitting a warm october for much of our region. we see temperatures stay miles through halloween. we will cool down quickly as kids go out trick-or-treating. the rest of the seven day forecast includes late day rain moving in thursday night into friday morning.

the 60's and into the 50's by friday. that could have some impact on our temperatures. antoinette: we are following breaking news out of the southbound this morning and we want to get you updated. boston police opened fire killing a knife wielding man. police called to a home on shaumut ave, along with emt's, the man attacked the first responders forcing officers to open fire. 2 emt's are being treated for head and back injuries, and several officers were hurt as well. we will stay on top of this breaking story on air and on our mobile app. doug we're learning more about : the plane that went up in flames at a chicago airport. federal investigators say engine pieces from the american airlines plane were found thousands of feet away. one piece of engine was found 3,000 feet away at a ups warehouse while a second piece was found 1500 feet away. the national transportation safety board today confirmed that the friday's fire was caused by an engine failure.

>> fire damage was mainly limited to the windows and only cosmetic pieces of the interior. we had no fire that reached to the inside of the cabin. doug: of the 170 people on board , 20 passengers and one flight attendant were injured. most of the injuries happened while sliding down the exit chute. antoinette: thousands of honda owners have yet et airbags repaired despite repeated warnings from the automaker. the airbags made by takata have an extremely high chance of rupturing and causing injury or death. honda says it has sent out letters, facebook ads, and made telephone calls, but notes it can be hard to reach some owners. 300,000 hondas are still equipped with the malfunctioning airbags. doug: it is 5:15. more information about a boat

killed when the boat he was on hit a jetty near miami beach. a medical examiner says fernandez had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash. he was also legally drunk. investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat when it crashed. doug: a powdery substance forced the evacuation of an opera house in new york city. investigators now say that substance may be the ashes of a person who loved opera, spread by a man attending the opera. police say he sprinkled the ashes into the orchestra pit during an intermission. the incident forced officials to cancel the remainder of the show , along with a second performance. police say they don't believe there was any criminal intent but disposal of the ashes may violate city health codes.

upper 50's to low 60's. it is a milder start leading us to a warmer afternoon as well. antoinette: thank you. we are following breaking news overnight. boston police shoot and kill a suspect inside a south end home. doug: that incident started with a call to police about an emotionally disturbed man. the eye's juli mcdonald is live with what we know so far. juli? juli: a quieter scene at can see across the street a couple of detectives still outside his home in the south bend. boston ems and police worked together to calm down the man is that this apartment. we are told the suspect pulled out a knife, and there was a struggle. ems widget to the home first and police assisted them when the man grabbed a knife. he saw repeatedly at the

get the knife away. the officers were forced to fire, killing the man. his mother was home at the time. she was the one who called 911. commissioner davis says emt's and police officers are being treated for head back injuries. the identity of the suspect has not been released. still some investigators here this morning. doug: thank you. to maynard, where the community is on edge right now. the state police bomb squad was called in to detonate a suspicious package yesterday. maynard police say someone who lives nearby found the bag on the street. neighbors were evacuated before the explosion. >> they said there was a

>> there were wires in an object. call the police. they came down, looked at it, it looked like an explosive device. doug: police are now investigating whether this is connected to a suspicious incident back in september when a bag was found with shell casings and a note mentioning isis. antoinette: a 44-year-old man is under arrest, accused of raping a brockton high school student in the school parking lot. it happened on thursday afternoon while school was going on. according to our media partners at the brockton enterprise, police say the suspect, andy thao, knew the victim, who is not being identified. the superintendent declined to comment. an arrest warrant has been issued for the man accused in a deadly shooting in lynn. the essex district attorney's office warns the suspect, 29-year-old sean chandler, is armed and dangerous. he is wanted in connection with the killing of 38-year-old donald yancy. police say yancy was shot in the head inside and apartment in

anyone with information on chandler is asked to contact lynn police. doug: we're learning more about a deadly crash on the mass pike in westborough. you may remember this. it was breaking news yesterday on the eye. the victim thrown from the car and hit by several other vehicles. state police say the driver of the car lost control. six people were in the car, four were ejected including the 26-year-old woman who died. the driver and four other passengers all have serious injuries. troopers are still working to driver to lose control. a jeep left abandon in the middle of 290 leads to a crash. a worcester county sheriff's cruiser slammed into the back of the vehicle yesterday morning. the corrections officer and his bloodhound were on the way to work. he and his dog are ok. the sheriff's department says the owner left the jeep there because it ran out of gas. antoinette: middlesex county residents are cashing in on their old firearms.

firearms and a defused grenade. those who participated in the four hour buy back program received gift cards for each weapon or piece of ammunition returned. the event aims to give residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms. state police will destroy the returned guns. doug: demolition continues on the mass pike as crews work to dismantle toll booths. state highway officials say they're making progress and are actually ahead of sche. drivers traveling between new york and boston will now pay pike tolls in one of two ways. a bill will be sent in the mail after their license plate is photographed or by having an e.z. pass transponder. but the now empty toll booths are expected to cause some confusion, and that could lead to big backups. one driver saw those backups in sturbridge.

breaking story on air and on our mobile app. antoinette: green party presidential hopeful jill stein will campaign in boston today. stein is holding a rally at the old south church in copley square. stein has said that her goal this election is to get at least 5% of the vote. she says that would ensure the green party receives up to 10 $10 million to help build a stronger campaign infrastructure in 2020. doug: early voting is taking extremely long lines at this location in west roxbury. the commonwealth's top elections official saying the number of early voters may very well end up passing his initial estimates. newscenter 5's david bienick tells us what you need to know if you want to vote early. david: the line of voters was steady but not long at the recreation building in wesley. between the start of early

ballot. he operatives as many as one in five voters will do so before election day. >> so far, it has been a good experience. david: the commonwealth offered grants to towns to help with staffing. >> it has resulted in some places not offering early voting today, and i am disturbed about that. the town clerk says she loves convenience for voters with collecting, sorting, and storing these ballots requires more time and money than regular election day ballots. >> it is taking us three to five minutes to process every valid that comes in so if i have 5000 voters times three to five minutes, that is a lot of staff time. david: early voting comes with one potential risk.

temperatures are looking to drop a bit into monday. in bridgewater, 52 degrees for monday afternoon. mid-fifties into tuesday. down to the cape, we see highs in the 60's. there is a very light breeze in place. 5-10 mile per hour brees. right now, they are out of the southwest. they will start to shift to the northwest later today as the cold front moves into the area. will bring the wave of moisture into our area. we are seeing this low pressure along the cold front so that is why we see shower chances moving in. notice how that really starts to blossom as we head into the forecast tonight. now it has for into monday and get into the influence of high pressure from the west. cold conditions from canada. that is what we will see that drop monday and tuesday. look into the west, the next one

deaths, but there are injuries. antoinette: more trouble for uber. a driver in maryland has been charged with kidnapping and assault. police say the victim was his customer. they say the 29-year-old driver drove the victim to a hotel in washington, d.c., and carried her to a room. he also took her credit card and used it to make purchases. doug: three international space station crew members are back on earth this morning. the soyuz spacecraft landed in kazakhstan nearly four hours after undocking. u.s., russia, and japan. the return trip culminated 115 days in space beginning in july. all three astronauts were taken for medical evaluation after spending nearly four months in weightless conditions. welcome home. antoinette: this morning's made in mass, a big name in men's clothing bringing manufacturing back to the u.s. doug: joseph thinks it is
