morning. many of us are in the upper 50's and low 60's with women at 60 degrees right now. -- with clinic at 63 degrees. we are feeling the mildness in the air. that continues this afternoon despite stubborn clouds that are looking to stick around. mostly cloudy as we move through areas of downtown austin. notice -- downto we move into the forecast tonight. these showers looking to coolest down a little bit, especially as we head into the forecast tomorrow. we will see highs in the 60's today drop into the 50's as we kick off the work week. we have showers moving in tonight. we have the latest on their timing coming up. doug: breaking overnight, boston police shoot and kill a suspect

with a call for an emotionally disturbed man. the eye's juli mcdonald is live in the south end with the breaking details. juli? >> it was boston ems and boston police responded to the shawmut avenue apartment. ems entered the home first, trying to calm down the 31-year-old man who we are told suffered from schizophrenia struggle broke out, and the man pulled out a knife. that's when police ran in to assist. the suspect swung repeatedly at the officers as they struggled to disarm him. the officers had no other choice, commissioner evans said, but to buyer on the suspect -- fire on the suspect.

unfortunately, the cap coming -- he kept coming at the officers. reporter: the commissioner tells us that some of his officers and the emts are being treated for head and back injuries suffered during the struggle. no updates on their conditions. we do not know the identity of that suspect. in the south end, juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5. update. also breaking this morning, an mbta employee is recovering from a late night attack. police also searching for the gunman in a second shooting. this happening just blocks away from that first shooting. boston says the driver was taken for non-life-threatening injuries. doug: violence breaking out in several dorchester neighborhoods. a woman was killed, and a teen injured in a shooting on washington street saturday. one woman was at a nearby store

she was shot in the chest and died from her injuries. when police arrived on scene, they found a second victim, a teenager with non-life-threatening injuries. police say they believe the teen was the intended target. neighbors tell us they've had enough of the violence. >> you should be able to walk down the street without worrying about ducking for cover. let's stop this madness. doug: right now police are reviewing surveillance cameras and talking to witnesses. anyone with information is asked to give police a call. police are searching for a gunman in a second shooting. this happening just blocks away from that first shooting. police say a teenager was shot in the area of geneva avenue and waldeck street around 4:30 yesterday. the victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to be ok. police don't know whether this shooting is connected to that incident on washington street. antoinette: a 15-year-old is in the hospital with serious injuries this morning, and another teenager facing charges

charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. "the lowell sun" reports the victim suffered serious head injuries in a fight at a party friday night. zangerella is due in court tomorrow. a car fire shut down the entrance to storrow drive. you can see firefighters rushing to put out the flames just outside the tunnel yesterday. this is near exit 26, right off 93 to storrow drive. the ramp was closed while the wreck was cleared.st injured. no word on what caused the fire. ? >> ladies and gentlemen, the next and first thing up president of the united states, -- female president of the united states, hillary clinton. doug: singer jennifer lopez stumping for hillary clinton in florida. the candidate joining lopez on stage.

fbi after the director said he's reviewing new emails related to the investigation of clinton's home server. as the eye's nichole berlie reports, donald trump's campaign is now using it as an opportunity to increase the attacks on his rival. >> have you been in touch with the fbi? reporter: hillary clinton is pushing back hard at the latest email investigation rocking her campaign. ms. clinton: it's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election. it's unprecedented, and it is deeply troubling. reporter: clinton calling on the fbi director to justify the stunning move. ms. clinton: voters deserve to get full and complete facts. and so we've called on director comey to explain everything right away, put it all out on the table. reporter: for donald trump, this could be the last chance to turn his campaign around.

mounting legal troubles. her criminal action was willful, deliberate, intentional, and purposeful. reporter: fbi director james comey opened the latest probe after new emails were discovered while investigating a sexting scandal involving former congressman anthony weiner, the estranged husband of top clinton aide huma abedin. the emails found on a device shared by the couple. in an internal memo to fbi employees, comey wrote, "given that we don't know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, i don't want to create a misleading impression. comey says he doesn't know how long the investigation may take. authorities are still seeking a judge's approval to review the e-mails. it is unclear how much information voters will learn before election day. doug: thank you.

antoinette: we are following that breaking news out of the south end, boston police opened fire, killing a knife wielding man. police called to a home on shawmut avenue along with emt's. the man attacked the first responders, forcing officers to open fire. two emt's are being treated for several officers were hurt as well. we will stay on top of this breaking story on air and on our mobile app. doug: we're learning more about the plane that went up in flames at a chicago airport. federal investigators say engine pieces from the american airlines plane were found thousands of feet away. one piece of engine was found 3,000 feet away at a ups warehouse while a second piece was found 1500 feet away. the national transportation

that the friday's fire was caused by an engine failure. but what caused the engine to fail has not been determined. >> fire damage limited to the windows and cosmetic pieces of the interior. we had no fire reach the cabin. doug: of the 170 people on board, 20 passengers and one flight attendant were injured. most of the injuries happened while sliding down the exit chute. all of them have been released from the hospital. antoinette: thousands of a owners have yet to get their airbags repaired despite repeated warnings from the automaker. the airbags made by takata have an extremely high chance of rupturing and causing injury or death. honda says it has sent out letters, facebook ads, and made telephone calls, but notes it can be hard to reach some owners. 300,000 hondas are still equipped with the malfunctioning airbags. announcer: your storm team five

60's. that has been the trend for much of october. temperatures staying above normal. our average this month has been about 1.5 degrees above. we were in the 80's earlier this month. tomorrow, we will be in the 50's. we are kicking off november in the 60's i wednesy thursday of this week. downtown boston, 62 degrees. we see temperatures well into the mid-60's even with 64 in hyannis. afterwards worcester, upper 50's. the winds will stay down during the day. temperatures will stay milder until the winds pick up tonight. clouds moving in this afternoon.

hours when the showers approach from the west. initially, they will be scattered and light. we are talking about heavier rainfall in some of our southern areas, the rest of us seeing scattered light showers persistent through tonight. you can see showers lingering on the coast. on your monday morning commute, the showers movies, and we will start to see drying and sunshine. cooler heading into your monday. we dropped from the 60's into the 50's. it is going to be chilly with that sunsetting. 50's down into the 40's as the sun sets. some places will drop into the upper 30's. the rest of your seven day forecast, we are warming up. as the showers moving on thursday, that will pull us down.

friday. the good news is even though things are cooling down, we will start to dry out. doug: we are trying to figure out what time is the best time for trick-or-treating. antoinette: i have no idea. i'm knocking on your door at 2:00, everyone. doug: stories we are following for you right now. antoinette: earthquake has rocked the central and southern parts of italy. the 6.6 magnitude quake follows a week of tremors in the same areas. an official says there are no deaths but injuries are reported. thousands are homeless after buildings across the area crumbled to the ground. the prime minister has vowed to rebuild the destroyed areas. doug: we're learning more information about the boat crash that left a miami marlins pitcher dead. jose fernandez was killed when the boat he was on hit a jetty near miami beach.

fernandez had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash. he was also legally drunk. investigators have not yet determined who was steering the boat when it crashed. antoinette: the president of a medford police union is apologizing after posting this picture. harold macgilvray says he used poor judgment when he posed for the picture with a person dressed as hillary clinton in an orange jump suit. the picture was shared on the medford police patrolmen's association facebook. macgilvray says the picture was taken spontaneously and not he and several officers also took a picture with a person wearing a donald trump mask under the message "make america great again" in west medford square. announcer: here is sportscenter 5 powered by xfinity. >> is in the last three games with the bruins.

reporter: boston police and boston ems worked together to calm down the 31-year-old man inside this shaumut avenue apartment. we're told that suspect pulled out a knife and there was a , violent struggle. ems went into this apartment first. police responded when the suspect grabbed a knife. the suspect swung repeatedly to get the knife away. commissioner evans said his officers had no other choice but to fire their weapons, killing that man. that man's mother was at home when this happened. she was the one that called 911. commissioner evans tells us emt's and police officers are being treated for head and back injuries. suffered during that struggle on the ground.

officers guarding the front of this apartment building this morning. in the south end, juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5. antoinette: also breaking this morning, an mbta employee is recovering from a late night attack. this happened near the cedar grove station and north chester around 12:30 this morning. the driver was taken to carney hospital and is being treated for nonlife threatening injuries. doug: to maynard where the state police bomb squad was called in to detonate a suspicious package yesterday. maynard police say someone who lives nearby found the bag on the street. neighbors were evacuated before the explosion. >> there was a suspicious package. i walked out on the street, and they were cordoning off the area. >> there were wires and it was an object.

device. doug: police are now investigating whether this is connected to a suspicious incident back in september when a bag was found with shell casings and a note mentioning isis. antoinette: a 44-year-old man is under arrest, accused of raping a brockton high school student in the school parking lot. it happened on thursday afternoon while school was going on according to our media partners at the brockton enterprise. police say the suspect, andy thao, knew the victim, who is not being identified. the superintendent declined to comment. an arrest warrant has been issued for the man accused in a deadly shooting in lynn. the essex district attorney's office warns the suspect, 29-year-old sean chandler, is armed and dangerous. he is wanted in connection with the killing of 38-year-old donald yancy. police say yancy was shot in the head inside an apartment in breed's corner late friday night. anyone with information on chandler is asked to contact

doug: we're learning more about a deadly crash on the mass pike in westborough. this was breaking news yesterday on the eye. the victim thrown from the car and hit by several other vehicles. state police say the driver of the car lost control. six people were in the car, four were ejected, including the 26-year-old woman who died. the driver and four other passengers all have serious injuries. troopers are still working to figure out what caused the driver to lose control. a jeep left abandoned in the middle of 290 leads to a crash. a worcester county sheriff's cruiser slammed into the back of it yesterday morning. the corrections officer and his bloodhound were on the way to work. he and his dog are ok. the sheriff's department says the owner left the jeep there because it ran out of gas. antoinette: middlesex county residents are cashing in on their old firearms. framingham police held a gift cards for guns event saturday. area residents turned in 174 firearms and a defused grenade.

received gift cards for each weapon or piece of ammunition returned. the event aims to give residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms. state police will destroy the returned guns. doug: demolition continues on the mass pike as crews work to dismantle toll booths. state highway officials say they're making progress and are actually ahead of schedule. how about that. drivers traveling between new york and boston will now pay pike tolls in one of two a bill will be sent in the mail after their license plate is photographed or by having an e.z. pass transponder. but the now empty toll booths are expected to cause some confusion, and that could lead to big backups. one driver saw those backups in sturbridge. >> right from where the toll booths would be all the way up the rams and up the highway. about eight miles.

antoinette: we are following that breaking news from boston. police shoot and kill a knife-wielding suspect. doug: the eye's juli mcdonald is live with the breaking details. juli? reporter: a really frightening night for first responders here also devastating for a mother who lost a son. she called 911 for help. her emotionally disturbed 31-year-old son was out of control. ems arrived and went into the home first police running in after the suspect grabbed a knife. we're told the suspect swung repeatedly at police and emt's as they tried to take the knife from him. the police chief said his
