>> from boston's news leader, this is wcvb newscenter 5 at noon. erika: we begin with breaking news. aback you boston following a gas leak. boston fire says contractors working near 10 tremont street hit a gas pipe around 8:00 this morning shutting down that road. 10 tremont and warty quick -- and 40 court street has been evacuated. an accident involving a fire truck in the back bay. emily: dartmouth street and calm

we will bring you an update when it arrives. >> this morning went really well. we have a good morning but all of that change. erika: so far so good for the first weekday commute during tollbooth demolition on the mass pike. emily: good afternoon. erika: thanks for being with us. traffic light of the unusual but there's no guarantee tonight will be as light. sera congi live in weston for us. sera: at the weston toll plaza. overall math. says they have torn down 76 of the tollbooths of the 155 tollbooths that have to come down. for the drivers we talked with this morning say it was an easy commute this morning mostly because usually it gets pretty tied up at these toll plazas. a fretful commute was expected on the mass pike is halloween morning.

more of a treat the trick. >> i was expecting it to be like during a snowstorm. is better than a normal monday. sera: mass. is turned down 23 toll plazas along the pike so drivers have to navigate around these construction zones. some plazas have already come down but in busier areas like weston, the center of the structure has been demolished and traffic rerouted to outside lanes. all the say this morning's maiden voyage went smoothly. >> two months and be done with it and be able to crews through, no traffic delays. sera: mass. advises commuters to slow down to 15 miles per hour when going to the works on the do not stop. avoid rush hours or take the t if possible. many regular commuters say it will be worth it in the end.

this morning went well. actually saw us 6% to 10% drop in the amount of traffic on the roads. they are hoping that the public will continue to cooperate because the tollbooth demolition as well as road repair work is going to continue until november 22. emily: right after being hit by an suv in quincy. it happened late last night at the intersection of hancock street in hollis avenue. preliminary investigation shows the victim was believed to be between 40 and 60 years old, was wearing dark clothing and visibility was difficult because of rain. as no indication the woman driving was impaired or speeding. erika: the driver of this vehicle faced a judge accused in a drunk hit and run in salem.

outside civil district court with new details. >> prosecutors say after hitting this mother and her twin 10-year-old daughters with his car, dexter mitchell sped off only to return minutes later and turned himself into police. the man is accused of hitting this family who was visiting's they lump as they legally walked in a crosswalk. the family was on route to the t station on washington street. return downtown to retrieve a stuffed animal that have been left behind. police found mitchell bus subaru nearby. witnesses tell police they saw him drop something into a dumpster. police have a 12 pack of beer. some of those cans were empty. his attorney says mitchell was a married father with a 13 year old and has no criminal record. >> no evidence that was elicited from any of the witnesses that he was anywhere near negligent. one of the witnesses said he was driving at the same speed she

swerving. no evidence like that. reid: dexter mitchell being held on a $2500 cash bail. all three victims were taken to separate hospitals. each suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries. erika: now back to the breaking news happening right now in the south end. looking at dartmouth and comm avenue. engine seven struck a car. yo at this point no reported injuries that we are keeping an eye on this. quite a crash here at dartmouth and comm avenue. those coworkers hospitalized in bow, new hampshire after a support been collapsed at the town's new public safety complex . it happened around 10:00 this morning on knox road. construction of the site has been stopped while the town and osha investigate what happened. no word on the extent of the

emily: the driver of the school bus that crashed into a home in quincy last week has been cited for negligent operation and marked lanes violations. hardwood was behind the wheel of his bus crashed into a hydrant telephone pole, offense suv and finally a house. woods, the driver of the suv and several children on the bus were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police still have not revealed what caused the crash. erika: a todd berry teen a grave condition after allegedly slamming the boys had against the concrete floor at an underage tricking party friday night. zangarella is charged with assault and battery of a deadly weapon. our partners at the boston enterprise say it happened thursday afternoon while school is in session. police say the suspect,

from victim. this entry man is out on bail accused of driving drunk the wrong way down interstate 93. officers arrested the 36-year-old in concord after he was spotted driving eastbound on the westbound side of the highway. police say he was more than twice the legal limit. this is his second dru drunk driving offense. erika: a shark conservancy says a man spotted this 12 law -- to a foot-long shark yesterday while walking along gnostic beach in orleans. -- along nauset beach in orleans. and necropsy is now underway to determine what killed the 20-year-old chart. a search for a murder suspect comes to an end.

reading your bombs are in place. the passenger say they were forced to stay on the flight not knowing if there were really explosives onboard. the plane was evacuated several hours later. the aircraft cleared eventually landing in dallas overnight. emily: shifting to the weather on this halloween day. i know you have rainfall but it's not going to rain tonight. cindy: it's rained on halloween before. we had to do without this rain calendar, we actually had good rain this month. about an inch and a half above average. the first time we've had a month with above average rainfall since february. with thought .5 inches or so of rain in boston that marks the wettest month we've had a nearly two years. you have to go back to december of 2014 to find a month wetter than this one. good rainfall helping with the

we are behind by nine inches. this long-term drought is going to take a long time to improve. we had a system bringing rain late yesterday that is now offshore. high pressure is nosing in. in between the flow of air is straight out of canada. yesterday we were in the 60's. quite a bit cooler today. 49 in boston. i cooler. the winds are active getting gusts to around 20 miles per hour so it's creating a wind chill. you can see this camera not doing too bad but every now and then you see it bouncing. the wind is noticeable when you step outside. out of the northwest sustained and 14 so it is feeling like it is cooler than that 49 degrees. the winds are going to subside and the timing is good because between about 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.

light wind. high pressures going to be right on top of us. a little bit below the average. as this hydrops down for a wednesday wind shifts to the west southwest and that is going to bring in milder air. this warm front on wednesday morning i think there will be clouds around wednesday morning and in the skies brightened. we jumped to the mid-60's and by thursday we could make a run toward 70 degrees. i think of her 60's and we watch this from come in. la be a thunderstorm and behind the front cooler temperatures settling in. cooler lower 50's on friday and a chilly but dry start to the weekend on saturday. this is the weekend that we fall back. daylight savings time ends on saturday nights of my sunday sun will be rising earlier but it will be setting in the 4:00 hour come sunday evening. that is nearing by the weekend.
