randy: the course is broken, the cubs are world series' champs. details on the dramatic game that stretched into extra innings this morning. >> and also breaking a teenager hurt in boston. the information just in on a crash in dorchester. randy: a mother and child targeted by races. neighborhood, that's on the eye for this thursday morning. reporter: and we are seeing the fans at wrigley field. this was the scene before fans and cubs alike, basking in the globe, their world series'

inning. that's all. good morning and thanks for being here with us, i'm erika tarantal. emily is off. randy: and i'm randy price. it was a nail biting game seven that had both teams fighting to the last second. we have highlights for you ahead but first, cindy with the forecast. cindy: we know what that feels like. we're starting out with some showers already, so a good idea to have the umbrella with you. you can see everything moving from west to east, quickly so if it starts raining in your town it will not last too long. we have showers right now out of framingham and down to sherburne, as well, and also looking at a batch of showers here, coming out of randolph, headed east, co-hassett, and we have heavier rain in the bridgewater area. a few more of these showers scattered about from derry to newbury port, as well. there is a second area of rain off to the west. and this is going to come in later today. temperatures mild but with that

50s, and upper 60's to the south, and we'll watch the showers around this morning give way to a steadier rain towards this afternoon. you can see that between 3:00 and 5:00, so there will be a bit of rain out there for your evening commute, as well. let's go out to the roads and talk about your morning ride. good morning. >> good morning, cindy and everyone. a live look outside, here to start things off, this is in sawingus, the southbound side heading to the top of the screen, a few brake lights. let's go to the map and check your ride, not too bad this morning, if you are traveling the pike. we are watching one route 146, he or she, once you get past it, 495 to 128. right now, 15 to 20, and heading south, volume building on 24 out of brockton. 93 south, some delays out of methuen, and into andover near the dascum road. i'm olessa. that's a look at traffic. >> the cubs win the world

it is over! and the cubs have finally won it all. randy: breaking overnight, true joy in chicago as the cubs break the curse. we have just learned that the team just arrived home in the windy city. >> take a look at the scene. fans flocking to the ballpark. inside the locker-room. clearly started. ben zobrist with the mvp trophy thanks to the go ahead rbi in the tenth. this was a grueling game for fans of both teams. the cubs saw their lead vanish in the eighth inning, followed by a brief rain delay. zobrist says it was almost too much. >> this one just about made me pass out. it was like a heavy weight fight man. just blow for blow, everybody

boulevard. here's a look at the video. this happened at oakridge street at 10:30. you can see the car involved with a smashed up windshield. the pontiac g.t. was heading westbound. the 25-year-old driver did stay at the scene, and he was interviewed by troopers. investigates will now determine if any charges will be filed. as for the victim, she was taken to boston medical center. she is critical condition. as new information comes in we will be sure to keep you posted on air and online and with our mobile app. live in dorchester this morning, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. >> thank you. more breaking news now, two u.s. service members killed fighting the taliban in afghanistan. two other u.s. service members have been hurt according to nato. the service members came under fire during a train advice and a mission with partners.

randy: a seven-year-old boy and his mom were targeted. they have been the victims of racially fueled vandalism. right now the police have a new clue in finding those responsible. jacqueline and her son have lived in derry, new hampshire for the last five years without any problems. three separate attacks against them. her car keyed with a racial slur. another incident, eggs, fried chicken andat yard. stimpson says the message is clear. >> it's racial. it's racist. i was hurt. i certainly didn't realize that people in derry thought that way. strongly enough to act on it. >> she now has security camera images of a car that slowed down in front of her house, and police want anyone with information on that car to come forward now.

in the battleground map. abc news is moving utah and ohio back into the donald trump column. the states in yellow, arizona, north carolina, and florida, too close to call, but in that scenario hillary clinton still gets a pass of 270 electoral votes needed to win the election. trump would have to take a blue state out of her column. both camps trading accusations on the trail. >> imagine having a president who demeans disabled, insults latinos, african-americans, muslims -- >> we have only further decades of self dealing, conflicts of interests, they are politics of personal enrichment and pay to play. we have to decide here and now if hillary clinton will never be elected president of the united states of america. >> clinton and trump are focused on the battleground states today. she's in north carolina.

meantime both campaigns will make a big push in new hampshire. donald trump will be at the atkinson country club tomorrow and will visit southern new hampshire university in manchester on monday night. and clinton not planning any trips herself so far, but president barack obama will campaign for clinton on monday. we don't have the specifics just yet. and this poll just out overnight may add urgency. the survey of new hampshire voters gives donald trump a slight lead over hillary clinton. two weeks ago the s trump. randy: and the senate race is also at a dead heat. makingsy hassan and republican kelly ayotte went head-to-head and among the topic, the open out crisis, gun control and military strategy in iraq, and it was the politics that triggered the back and forth attacks. >> she said on 35 occasions that she supported him, she called him a role model for our

chaining her position. >> she has not stepped away from hillary clinton on one thing. i have actually taken the action of saying that i am not going to be voting for our nominee because i am concerned about the actions that he has talked about >> the wmur union leader showdown was the final debate between the candidates before election day. erika: right now this man is behind bars accused in the this morning we are getting a look at new video of a confrontation he had with police weeks ago. police confronted scott michael green at the urbandale high school football stadium last month. he was carrying a confederate flag. that stadium is at the intersection where one of the officers was shot and killed yesterday. during the incident months ago green was asked to leave the school property for creating a disturbance. greene posted the video on youtube. >> when you fly a confederate flag standing in front of

norwood, and that's one particular batch of rain, there's been another up across new hampshire, and moving east of you now around nashua and on the back edge, towards the new hampshire seacoast and down along the south shore we have a batch of light showers moving out of plymouth and duxbury, so a couple of showers around, that's batch one and here comes batch 2, and it is shifting in our direction, and a lot of this is going to focus across northern new england but we will catch the tail end of this, as it travels along the frontal boundary be the focus today for a lot of clouds and south side of the front warmer temperatures, so notice how we go that steadier rain in after 2:00 this afternoon and into the boston area, and we're in the 50s now, and we're going to hold in the 50s close to 60, and along the pike, and you see we have got lower 50s to the north, and we're going to stay in the 50s. notice south of town, from marshfield, we are back into the 60s. we have had 70 in many areas yesterday, and we'll get close to that south of town today but

lunchtime and here comes the next batch of rain moving in. and comes through during early to mid afternoon, and worcester into boston, and a couple of raindrops around for that evening commute. don't get much in southeastern massachusetts, and it is gone this evening. skies try to clear apart overnight, so it's partly cloudy tomorrow, and wind shifting to the north and west. we're in the 40s tonight, and we're going to see gusty winds pick up in the wake of this front tomorrow, it's going to hold the stems way down for tomorrow, so even though we're starting out in at the winds, they are going to be gusting to 20 miles per hour, still looking at ones at 20 miles per hour in the afternoon, so it's a windy one and cooler, that sets the stage for a cool but mainly dry weekend, and don't forget we turn the clocks back one hour this weekend. looking forward to that extra hour of sleep. heading towards the bottom of the screen, and volume starting to build early this morning.

pike, 146, we have an accident there blocking one lane and once you get past that, delays building, 495 to 128, it's now a 20-minute ride, heading south, 24 slow, 95 in sharon and delays building on route 3, and into the braintree split, and once you get there, 20-minute ride from braintree into boston. and 93 south, stop and go out of methuen, and into andover and down through wilmington and more delays on the spot pond and so far we're doing ok with the trains. red line is anticipating minor delays later on because the trains reduced speed because of the track work. >> it is 6:17, tom brady, one-on-one, and the pat's quarterback talking about his future with mike lynch, and including whether he thought about hanging up his cleats. >> you are under contract for 2019, which would be 42. would you get out before that if you thought it was time or plan on playing through there? >> i am going going as long as i can until i don't feel like i

caused some controversy over the wisdom of early voting, so far that question is being answered yes by an overwhelming record margin of 2-1 over 2012 presidential contest. elected officials and watchdog groups alike share the same complaint. america's voting process is broken. tuesdays are inconvenient and the number one difficulty and reason that americans cite for not voting. tuesday elections have their origin during the agricultural driven economy of the 1800s. weekends were religious reasons and monday was a day of horse and buggy travel to the polls. it is beyond time to encourage new thinking, if not a complete overhaul of old standards. early voting allows more flexibility, for those with inflexible work schedules and eliminates the need to stay in line for hours. sometimes enduring inclement weather. factors which also lower the turnout. and there is a risk early voting cuts short the vetting process and developments in a campaign may impact our choice up to the

do we really have a firm grasp on clinton and trump's views? or are we inundated to the end on their personal failings? considering the record negatives, dogging both candidates, any vote early or on election day is a considered risk for the majority of americans. record early vote is a strong indicator of acceptance for change. let's hope the discussion on increased reforms occurs before the first candidate announces

condition after boston police say that she was lit by -- hit by a car. it happened at gallivan avenue. and breaking news in afghanistan, two u.s. service members are dead, killed while fighting the taliban. two other service members were hurt. nato says the group came under fire while assisting afghanistan forces. >> it looked odd for it to be like one piece. why is the mailman not delivering the mail? location post-cards are trashed in the city of cambridge as the man who made that discovery says, ahead of the election day, he is talking to newscenter 5 because of this importance. the eyeopener's sera congi in cambridge this morning with his concern. >> joe martins believe this may be a sign of someone tampering with election information. and now the post-master in cambridge and the postal service are both looking into this.

monday, joe martins finding this bundle of post-cards in a trash bin in his building on glass works avenue. the post-cards were from the cambridge election commission, and they were intended for registered voters, to help them find the right polling place. martins says he did not receive early voting information weeks ago, and now this latest incident has him concerned. >> it's not comforting in any way, and i don't think that most people are very -- i think it's a high anxiety election as it it was just unsettling. >> and the city of cambridge says that the election commission has spoken to the post-master. it is a federal crime to tamper with mail, and it should be noted, though, that those post-cards are not required to vote. live in cambridge this morning sera congi wcvb newscenter 5. randy: thank you. a record turnout for early voting in boston yesterday. as of 7:30, more than 2,000

ballot at city hall plaza. at that location alone the warm weather is credited with the record turnout. this was the first year for early voting and tomorrow is the final day to vote early. erika: testimony continues in the sentencing retrial of a convicted killer hoping to avoid the death penalty again. gary sampson is back in court after his initial death penalty sentence was thrown out. the prosecution painting him as a merciless man victims. the defense saying that he's been struggling with a lifetime of traumatic brain injuries. and right now the mbta launching a new campaign to keep passengers safe. the t along with the coalition of advocate groups will try to drive home the message that sexual assaults will not be tolerated, the campaign will encourage passengers to report incidents of sexual harassment. the team working with the crisis center and the center for independent living.

diagnosis and treatment. treatments designed to fight cancer may pose a different kind of health risk. researcher say some immune-boosting cancer drugs may cause heart problems. in rare cases so-called checkpoint inhibitors may cause potentially fatal heart damage, especially when used together. doctors stress the drugs off huge benefits despite the risk. and some doctors are concerned prostate screening recommendations may have gone too far. a new study finds a since 2012. that's when a task force recommended against using a blood test to check most healthy men for prostate cancer. the doctors do say that it's too soon to tell if men with dangerous cancers missed out on treatments because of this. randy: we have breaking political news ahead of the election. a new poll painting a picture of voters in battleground new hampshire. and plus going one-on-one with tom brady, what he's telling

young woman in boston, and the historic win for yes the chicago cubs. erika: and what a win it was. this hit in the tenth, stealing it for the cubs overnight. and the team just is arriving home in chicago. the world series champs. that sounds good to them after 108 years, you can bet that they will get quite the greeting there. >> oh. >> absolutel last night, and that batch of showers, you can see how it is steadily pushing eastward, so a good idea to have an umbrella with you. we have had some showers around. there could be a couple more through mid-day, and notice as we get into the afternoon, our collapse for rain goes up a bit. it should go down this evening. and we do need any rain that we can get, drought monitor showing you the drought still across a good portion of the area, and boston, our yearly deficit up over nine inches so we need a lot of rain, we're going to get

anything south of the pike but you go to the north, and we will see just under a quarter of an inch. heavier rain up across central and northern new england, as that batch is going to target that area, and we did have a couple of brief passing showers come on through this morning, so many of you walking outside. the pavement damp, the bulk of the rain is offshore but the last of the raindrops for you, and we have showers exiting along the new hampshire seacoast and newbury port. so there's the next batch of showers, it's going to follow thisnt this front is going to be a dividing line with temperatures, and going to keep a lot of clouds around so 50s now, we'll get the next batch of rain in boston at 2:00, and to start to move in, and notice we're right around 60 but 50s to the north, and upper 60's south of the pike, and where there may be a few breaks in the cloud cover but mainly dry here outside of a spot shower, and here comes the next batch of showers moving in, and there will be at least a little area of rain for the evening commute, and we'll clear things out overnight.
