emily: good morning. it is tuesday, november 8. election day. i'm emily riemer. randy: i'm randy price. it is decision time. the critical votes for each candidate today. emily: the first election day votes are already in. the candidate hampshire town chose overnight. randy: there's the u.s. senate race to keep an eye on today. emily: a lot to get to. we want to get you to cindy first for a look at your election day forecast. cindy: it is going to be a mild day. however, it is chilly right now, and the temperature in boston is deceiving. 40 degrees in the city right now with clear skies, light winds. look at the suburbs.

nashua, 28 degrees. orange just 24. south of town, we are in the 20's with a lot of 30's on cape cod. it is a cold, frosty start. but the skies above are clear. we have high pressure nosing in. as the winds turn around to the south and the west, it is going to bring in milder air. the sun is up at 6:27. by 8:00 a.m., we're in the low 40's. by lunchtime, we're degrees early this afternoon. we're looking for highs this afternoon a good 10 degrees above average. lower 60's for most of us today. so it turns into a nice mild election day after this chilly start this morning. let's get you out to the roads this morning. may need time to scrape that windshield, olessa. olessa: live look outside starting with a check of the pike by alston-brighton eastbound to the top of the screen. let's go to the maps and see the

construction south of town and 93 north by route 24. if your trip takes you along route 2 or 128, you're in good shape. construction clearing on 128 south from route 3. we're expecting trains and buses to start the morning on schedule. i'm olessa stepanova. that's a look at your traffic. >> i really believe it's the most important election of our all together as americans. emily: the cases have been made. now it is decision time for america. randy: some communities are already choosing. dixville notch, new hampshire, hitting the polls at midnight. eight people in total there giving four votes to hillary clinton, two donald trump, gary johnson got one and a write-in for mitt romney, of course, who is not running this time around.

open. emily: with so much at stake, the eyeopener is covering all the candidates and issues. we begin with sera congi covering the clinton campaign with battleground new hampshire. good morning, sera. sera: good morning, emily and randy. this is a battleground state. the ballots cast here crucial. hillary clinton has spent a lot of time here. last night at midnight, she tried to rally the troops in another important state, north carolina. >> there is no reason, my friends, why america's best days are not ahead of us. [cheers and applause] if we reach for them together. sera: earlier, clinton headlined a star-studded rally in front of independence hall in philadelphia joined on stage by president obama as well as the first lady. pennsylvania, north carolina, and new hampshire, they're all of about a dozen battleground

hillary clinton will be voting in new york. live in manchester, new hampshire, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: now south to nashua. the eye's nicole estaphan is at a polling location covering the trump campaign this morning. nicole: good morning. the trump campaign also burning the midnight oil in the final hours of this race. after a stop in new hampshire last night, trump flew to michigan for an overnight rally. >> chance to beat this corrupt, rigged system and to deliver justice for every forgotten man and forgotten woman and forgotten child. nicole: at his manchester rally, trump claims patriots quarterback tom brady voted for the nominee. we did reach out to the patriots. they said they couldn't confirm

said he hadn't yet voted. nicole estaphan, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: thank you. our political analysts have seen a lot in their time in politics. here's what they will be watching for today. >> north carolina and new hampshire, the polls close at 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. in these battleground states, if trump wins both, we could be in for a long night. second, the romney states. romney got his clock cleaned by obama in 2012, w electoral votes. if trump loses any one of these states, he's done. third, african american turnout. so far it's not been great for hillary clinton in early voting. if it's down again, it could be a good night for trump. >> three things to watch -- pennsylvania, new hampshire and michigan. they haven't voted yet. there's no early voting. and all three states are a factor in who wins the white house. nicole: another race, the u.s.

-- unseat kelly ayotte. erika: the race between ayotte and hassan is one of the most closely watched, expensive races in the country. both convincing voters why they are right for new hampshire. >> there is a clear choice in this election. do we keep going with a senator who repeatedly votes with the corporate special interests? the people of new hampshire. facing charges after a violent confrontation in cambridge. police had to use pepper spray at the cambridgeside galleria. a thousand people were there with rapper desiigner and jaylen brown. when the event didn't happen as scheduled. police say things got out of control. bricks and glass were allegedly thrown at officers. six teens are charged with trespassing and disturbing the peace. randy: inspirational event in boston last night. a mission to pay tribute and to help our veterans. stowaway on a flight from

voters heading out to the polls along the gulf coast from louisiana down to south texas and some of that moisture feeds up into mississippi. a few showers around chicago as well. nothing heavy there. otherwise, it's pretty quiet. and it is a warm pattern. the jet stream is actually feeding unseasonably mild air in our direction today. you're thinking really, cindy? it's cold out there now, but a nice temperature recovery this afternoon. it's short-lived. jet stream shifts southward tomorrow. at into cooler weather as we get toward thursday and the end of the week on friday. up and down temperatures starting out chilly this morning in the suburbs. there's frost. you may need extra time to scrape that windshield, let the defroster run in the car and do its work. 24 in orange. 39 in worcester. 28, mid 30's on the cape as well, north shore up to lawrence, at or below freezing. 40 degrees in boston. the skies are clear above. we're going to have wall-to-wall

high pressure is nosing in. it's going to drop to our south giving us milder air on the back side. here's the frontal boundary we're watching off to the west feeding up some of that moisture from st. louis to chicago. very light scattered showers. nothing terribly heavy. we're watching that moisture move in our direction for tomorrow. ahead of that front today it is mild. 60 in st. louis right now. mid 50's in chicago. we are going to see the temperatures come up. this morning is chilly. polls opening this morning, there will be still some frost around, chill in the should be below the freezing mark. by lunchtime, it's sunny, mild, near 60 degrees. when the polls close this evening, partly cloudy skies. temperatures in the upper 40's. wall-to-wall sunshine throughout the day and we are going to climb to the 60's. 16 in boston. worcester about the same. norwood 64. upper 50's to near 60 on cape cod. we'll start out this evening clear. clouds increase overnight holding temperatures up.

tomorrow morning. it's mostly in the 40's heading out tomorrow. then this front approaches. a few showers in the morning. area of low pressure develops on this front. that's going to enhance some of the shower activity over southeastern massachusetts into the afternoon. so the highest rain totals where we could see more than 1/4 of an inch look to be down toward the cape. outside of that, it's just about 1/10 of rain with showers coming through primarily during the midday and afternoon hours. you see it here. we're still in the mid 50's tomorrow. a couple of showers for the showers move west to east. for your lunch hour tomorrow, rain around. we'll clear out in the evening. colder weather begins to move in thursday into friday. sun comes in friday night. coldest air of the season. look at that temperature on saturday. olessa: i don't want to. cindy: wind chills in the 30's all day long. olessa: okay. enjoy today. so far this morning, the roads are quiet.

approvals for either new charter schools or expanded enrollment at existing schools every year. question 3 deals with confining farm animals. a yes vote bans any practice that prevents pigs, calves and hens from laying down, standing up or turning around freely. the one question everybody seems to be talking about is question 4, which will decide if recreational marijuana becomes legal in massachusetts. polls are showing the younger voters favor legalization which big impact on the outcome of this referendum. there's question 1. a yes vote would authorize the massachusetts gaming commission toward a second -- this is very specific. an area around town in eveer. -- revere. that's very specific. watch for that as you head to the polls as well. we're live in west roxbury -- or make that jamaica plain.

emily: your economy this tuesday. asian shares mixed overnight as investors await the results of today's u.s. presidential election. stock futures are lower right now. investors are awaiting october's treasury budget report due out on thursday. cutting back on losses for boston's outdoor park will have a deficit between 250 and 350 thousand dollars. that is much lower than the $2.3 million loss in its second season last year the massachusetts convention center authority says the lawn on d will break even by sometime in 2018 thanks to increased commissions and more private events. randy: trending stories -- facebook getting into the job market and social media company says it is testing a feature that would let page administrators create job postings and receive applications. that would compete with linkedin, which makes most of its revenue off of job hunters and recruiters. emily: the latest craze taking

challenge. as you can see, you're supposed to get as many people as you can to freeze in place while someone records. comedian kevin hart got in on the challenge. but the pittsburgh steelers may have the best one. nearly the entire team plus the media. randy: imagine this. it is a snake on this plane. the greenish reptile found on a flight from mexico coming out of the overhead luggage. emily: stop! randy: it dropped down from the cabin. the airline says the plane landed quickly so that the employees could secure the sn snake. aeromexico says it's investigating how this happened. emily: oh, oh. randy: somebody brought it on board no doubt. dress code win for students in malden. emily: their argument that won unanimous agreement.

bail tracked down by his g.p.s. monitor. keith herring is charged with shooting gary duff-turcotte. emily: todd kohlhepp is suspected in at least seven murders dating back to 2003. he was arrested last week after police found a woman chained inside a storage building on his property. another victim were found nearby. kohlhepp has been charged with four murders, but that number is expected to rise. randy: federal jury orders "rolling stone" magazines and one of its writers to pay $3 million to a university of virginia administrator after a now discredited article about a gang rape at the school. holding the school and the

well. this front getting slowed down as it runs into high pressure and this is going to bring a really nice day to all of the northeast quarter. it looks like a nice one today. lots of sunshine from the tip of maine all the way down to the mid-atlantic. temperatures running a little above average after a chilly start this morning. lower 60's in boston. upper 60's to near 70, philadelphia down to washington, d.c. nice wild weather across the northeast. not too much moisture out th. from chicago down to the gulf coast. so this is the area with potentially some wet weather at times today. across the country, fairly quiet. really warm in the southeast too. temperatures at or above 70 degrees. our warmth is going to be short-lived. once that cold front goes by, temperatures trend downward again. it's back to sunshine on thursday as we clear things out. it's only in the lower 50's right through veterans day and friday night another front comes in and behind that some of the coldest air of the season coming in for the weekend.
