degrees less chilly than the last couple of morning. 50 worcester. 30s showing up. but most areas are above the freezing mark. the reason, we've got clouds moving in. to the west there are some showers and a spin here associated with an area of low pressure developing along this front. that's going to slow the front down and focus a lot of the moisture to our south. i'm not expecting a lot of wet weather. through the morning commute, i think we're dry inside of southern new hampshire, western massachusetts could see showers. a lot of these fall apart during the lunch hour. during the evening t showers will fill back in. so have an umbrella today, especially for the afternoon. highs mid 50s worcester, close to 60 in boston. we could sneak into the lower 60s in the cape. we've got wet weather on the way, olessa. good morning. >> the roads are dry and they

biggest presidential upsets in history. the stunning victory came after he grabbed wins in states like florida, pennsylvania, ohio, and wisconsin. the president-elect addressed the nation in the early morning hours, as you mentioned. >> a lot to get through this morning. we begin with erika. she's tracking both of the presidential campaigns. >> the election habiter >> donald trump carried states not won by a republican since the 1980s. his election is having a ripple effect on financial markets as investors worry about the future. the new president-elect tried to strike a conciliatory tone, including toward hillary clinton. >> i congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign. i mean, she fought very hard.

she is not done yet. >> the javits center chosen in part because of its glass ceiling which clinton hoped to shatter in this election. we have not heard from clinton, but we expect to sometime today. her last tweet, she writes, whatever happens, thank you for everything. >> both of the candidates are in new york city at this point, and so is newscenter 5. our ben simmoneau is there. he's with the clinton campaign. we're expecting to hear from her later. j.c. man following the trump camp. they will both join us at the top of the hour on the eye. >> new hampshire's u.s. senate race still too close to call at this point. democrat governor maggie hassan looking to unseat republican senator kelly ayotte. here are the latest results. both candidates are pretty much tied. ayotte came out last night to thank her supporters and she also talked to newscenter 5's david bienick, questioned about if she can work with a president-elect trump. >> i'm very bipartisan. i can work with anyone.

the country first. >> hassan did not make a statement last night but she said in part, i hope everyone can get rest and we'll have good news to report in the morning. we'll bring results as soon as it is reported on air, online, and on our mobile app. >> massachusetts voters came out in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana in the bay state. here are the results for question 4. voters approved the the eye's doug meehan is in boston with what that means. doug? >> approving question 4 makes massachusetts the very first state on the east coast to allow recreational marijuana use. here's what it means. anyone 21 and over is allowed to possess, use, and transfer marijuana. there's one-ounce limits on

to 10 ounces of pot secured with a lock in their home. you can grow up to six pot plants in your home. overnight supporters of the referendum celebrating the win. >> we are on a new path -- the voters of massachusetts should be very proud. >> governor baker releasing a statement last night saying his administration will work closely with lawmakers, educators, and public safety professionals to ensure this transition protects the interest of our community and families. the last day for prohibition of adult use of marijuana is december 14. doug meehan, newscenter 5. >> massachusetts voters took on three other big ballot questions yesterday. voters defeated question one, the expansion of slot machines. more than 60% voted against the question which called for a second slots parlor. voters also rejected the

more than 62% of voters opposed question two, while nearly 38% supported the measure. and now question three, voters say yes there. 78% to 22%. a yes on the question bans any practice that prevents pig, calves, and hens from lying down, standing up, or turning around freely. 4:38 this morning. global markets crashing amid the trump election win. >> and the recordak in mexico. boston's mayor marty walsh's comments about how donald trump's win could cost the city. >> there will be showers moving through over the course of the

presidential election, taking on a more moderate tone, calling on the country to come together as one. trump address opponents, asking them to join him to make america great. >> we need an extra cup of coffee this morning. boy, things going all night and still going in some of the races and ballot questions. we'll be following it all. >> so you're bleary-eyed. make sure you grab an umbrella. not a use it. we're falling short in the rainfall department. we haven't had a quarter of an inch in boston. typically by this point we've seen an inch of rainfall. we are behind for the year. the deficit is close to 10 inches. so we could use some rain. look at this model generating a tenth of an inch or less on what falls from the sky. the best chance of getting in on the showers is beyond midday

you see the front to the west. there's an area of low pressure along the front slowing things down a little bit. this low is going to track closer to the cape. so that is where we have the best chance of seeing the rainfall this morning. they are getting it right now through parts of central pennsylvania, new york state, and this is all working in our direction. for the moment, we have increasing cloud cover and we've seen the clouds move onto the cape lastly. you're cooler than everyone el beverly. worcester, 1,000 feet up at the airport, 50. 46 in boston. we're near the freezing mark along the south coast, new bedford, 30s on the cape. the clouds thicken this morning and most of the day features mostly cloudy skies. by lunch we're in the mid and upper 50s. we're going to top out close to 60 today in most areas. cooler through worcester hills where we hold in the mid 50s and we could sneak into the lower

so not bad temperaturewise. notice a lot of the rainfall through about 8:00 this morning focused out in western massachusetts, southern vermont, southern new hampshire here. so inside of 495 i think we're dry through the morning hours. towards lunchtime, a couple of showers may sneak in. a lot of the first batch falls apart. showers have a better chance of filling in 5:00, 6:00. so for the evening commute, no real heavy rain. but there likely will be it's going to scoot offshore about 8:00, 9:00 tonight. for tonight, we're in the 30s once again. it's another cool start tomorrow morning. but high pressure noses in for your thursday. it's another bright, sunny day, not as mild as today. all eyes on this frontal boundary to the north that will bring colder air for the weekend. lower 50s tomorrow. on friday, initially we'll have partly cloudy skies, but once

winds behind it. this is a high-impact weather day for these strong wind gusts. friday is veterans' day and the winds during the afternoon likely gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. so blustery for any outdoor activities on veterans' day. on saturday we've got the sunshine, windchills in the morning hours in the 20s. despite that sunshine, windchills no higher than the 30s pretty much all day. so a cold start to the weekend and then temperatures moderate on sunday. so up and down in terms of the temperatures. >> thank you, cindy. your roads are quiet. there's the expressway by the south bay mall. the northbound side toward the bottom of the screen. let's go to the maps. no issues here. all the overnight construction is just about wrapped up. we have road work left over 93 northbound by route 24. no issues on 95. route 3 is quiet.

>> thousands of students and alumni came to a watch party last night thinking they would be marking the election of the first female president. a lot of concern and worry expressed there. we will bring you any reaction and any new updates this morning. live at the state house, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. >> election is having a major impact on the markets this morning. the u.s. stock futures are down. right now the dow is down 200 points. it had plunged more than 600 at one point. been jolted. asian stocks lower this morning and the mexican peso dropped to its biggest -- made its biggest daily move in decades. walgreens suing theranos for $140 million. the drugstore chain claims the blood testing company lied about its technology and breached it contract. the company ran wellness centers in a limited number of walgreens

relationship in june after regulator investigations into inaccurate tests. c.v.s. shares plunging after the drugstore chains lowered its profit forecast. company says it could lose 40 million prescriptions next year after some rivals like walgreens formed insurance partnerships that blocked some people from filling prescriptions at c.v.s. stores. company says although third quarter profits were up retail profit growth is expected to decrease. >> the election is trending this inauguration day. crews are constructing the viewing platform for the inaugural parade down pennsylvania avenue. inauguration day will be friday, january 20. >> the canadian government is experiencing technical problems. they did last night represented to the election. the immigration website crashed. experts believe it's because of early election results.

online searches about moving to canada and becoming a citizen spiked in recent months. these voters waiting in line not to cast their ballots, but to pay tribute. steady streams visiting susan b. anthony's grave site in rochester, new york, leaving "i voted" stickers to honor the woman who fought so hard to give women the right to vote. this took on extra meaning with hillary clinton on ballot. >> other stories this morning -- a snow drill at boston's logan airport. >> steps to make sure the city is prepared. of course we continue to monitor all of the breaking news this morning. lots of it. donald trump accepting hillary clinton's concession in a call. and he spoke to supporters early this morning. >> ahead at 5:00, we will have live coverage from new york city on both presidential campaigns. our ben simmoneau has reaction from the clinton camp. j.c. monahan is following the

shooting on savannah avenue. police responded to the scene about 10:45 and found the man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. he was pronounced dead. police have no leads and ask anyone with information to call them. >> a salem, massachusetts, police officer is due in court after he was arrested for a rape charge. officer brian butler is the husband of salem's police chief mary butler. he was arrested yesterday in connection with an incident at the station. exact the chief is taking time to deal with the personal matter, but is fully committed to her fellow officers, she says. >> a search in gloucester after two people were swept out to sea while fishing. the coast guard says two people were fishing on the rocks at rafes chasm park when they were hit by a wave about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. one person was able to swim back, but lost sight of the other. the coast guard is working with

they search that area of the shore. >> go pro is recalling the new drone after lost power during flight. the company said it will issue refunds for the 2,500 drones sold but is not offering replacement. go pro didn't say what caused the power loss but said no injuries or property damage is reported now. >> the bruins take on rival canadiens, but can't pull out the win. they tied in the second period with a shot from colin miller. hits the back board and knocked in by the canadiens score with just a minute left, they lose 3-2. the bruins play the blue jackets tomorrow. today an update on the open tolling transition. officials plan to discuss the progress of the project and provide new information about toll plaza demolition and construction. that meeting will highlight the work of the crews involved as

ahead of schedule. >> in a sign that, yes, winter is coming, logan airport now holding a snow readiness drill. the drill features the specialized equipment used to keep runways open throughout the winter weather. we'll get a glimpse at the snow crews who maintain the airport. this year's drill happens today. >> fortunately, not right >> no. >> in the month of november we and a half of snow. in 2014 in the month of november it was just before thanksgiving we had about two and a half inches of snow. we're watching rain right now move through parts of pennsylvania and new york state. this is what we're going to be watching for us later on today as this cold front presses on through. not looking for a lot of showers activity, but it's a idea to have an umbrella with you, especially later this afternoon and into the early part of this evening. temperatures across the northeast today not as mild as

upper 50s around here toward new york and dc getting rain later on. it's only in the mid 40s in buffalo. that's colder air on the other side of this frontal boundary. chicago, upper 50s with sunshine today. once this front goes through, high pressure is nosing in. it's going to be back to sunshine heading into tomorrow. so rainfall today looking pretty meager. best chance of seeing it in southeastern massachusetts where we make it over a tenth of an inch of rainfall. that's about it here through the rest of the week. friday, winds will be gusty as the front drops in with clouds in the afternoon. winds shift to the northwest. they could gusty 30 to 40 miles an hour, bringing in colder air for the weekend. saturday, windchills in the 30s all day. we'll moderate the temperatures on sunday. want to let you know too we've got a super moon on sunday night.
