police say only one car was involved and it rolled over. that woman was flown to u-mass medical center for treatment. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. also breaking overnight, protests cross the line into riots as thousands of people fill the streets of portland, oregon. right now, several people are under arrest, and it marks the second night of demonstrations since the election of donald trump. randy: and the president-elect does have a response to this. the eyeopener's erika tarantal tracking all of the overnig developments. erika: well, many of these protests have been mostly peaceful. that did change in portland overnight. this is video of the massive crowd from the air. i want to show you the scene on the ground. protestors turned violent, setting fires, trashing streets, and at least one case smashing a woman's car windshield with a baseball bat. there were a number of protests in several states overnight. some shut down highways in colorado and california, for example. president-elect donald trump took to twitter to take on the

presidential election." this coming just hours after mr. trump sat down with president obama for the first time. >> the meeting lasted for almost an hour and a half, and it could have -- as far as i'm concerned, it could have gone on for a lot longer. erika: there were no signs of the frequent animosi w years. mr. trump met with paul ryan and mitch mcconnell. surreal moments even by washington moments given the rhetoric we've seen throughout the campaign. emily? emily: thank you. attorneys for trump say they'll enter settlement talks in the president-elect's upcoming trial involving his now-defunct trump university. the class-action fraud lawsuit filed in 2010 alleges the university failed to keep its promise to teach real estate success. former students say they spent

false impression that the school was accredited. trump's attorneys ask that the november 28th trial be delayed until after inauguration day in january, and the judge suggested that both sides try to settle. randy: right now a criminal investigation is underway after the death of an infant. this morning there are several unanswered questions surrounding the death of a 5-week-old baby. at this time, no charges have been filed. sources tell 5 investigates that a drug overdose might have been contributed t unconscious inside a home on harrison place. investigators were called to the home at around noon yesterday. they stayed on the scene well into the night. video shot last night shows them leaving there with bags of evidence. sources tell 5 investigates the infant was in bed with those unconscious adults. a 19-year-old woman and 23-year-old man. neighbors are in shock over what's happened here. >> i've seen them walking up and down the street. they seem very nice, very quiet,

could be true. randy: sources say investigators are looking into the possibility that while in bed, one of the adults rolled over onto the infant. the state released this statement saying the department of children families received a report and is investigating in collaboration with law enforcement. d.c.f. goes on to say that due to the ongoing criminal investigation, there will be no further information. a judge awards cambridge couple who successfully sued their irish nanny over the death of their baby, 1-year-old rehma sabir, who died back in 2013. aisling brady mccarthy was accused of murder but the charges were dropped after the medical examiner changed the baby's cause of death to undetermined. the family's lawyer says that mccarthy, who may not have the $4 million, but the award will

emily: and mbta bus driver facing charges right now accuse of hitting a vehicle and driving away. the eyeopener's sera congi is live in stoneham where surveillance cameras caught the end of this wild ride. sera? sera: emily, it all came to an end here on main street in stoneham after passengers took action and called 9-1-1. surveillance video from a nearby business captures the moment state police cruis the old dairy dome here in stoneham. the crash happened in melrose after 5:00. the route 132 bus allegedly struck a parked van, and witnesses tell us the t operator got out of the bus to look at the damage but then drove off, and that is when passengers called 9-1-1. investigators are now looking into weather the driver was under the influence of prescription medication. he's been summonsed to court for

causing property damage. ahead in our next half hour, we'll hear from some of the passengers on that bus. live in stoneham, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: all right, sera. thank you. and imagine the pay for a job skyrocketing. nearly 600% overnight. 5 investigates found that's the deal the state gave some bridge workers on a publicly funded job. the blynman bridge in gloucester. 5 bridge operators are paid $75 to $125 an hour. it's a bigger paycheck than the governor of our state. and it's a job that used to pay only $13 an hour. the massive increase in pay for the bridge tenders kicked in thanks to a state contract for maintenance on the bridge, which

notice around lunchtime right through the afternoon, these are sustained winds up around and over 20 miles an hour and they will be gusting higher than that. by lunchtime, gusting to 30 and higher on the cape. these winds are with us through the evening hours shifting to the northwest. and that northwesterly wind is going to bring in some colder air. there is a wind advisory on the cape. here we could see gusts closer to 40 miles per hour. temperatures running in the 40's right now in most spots, although some 50's on the cape. 47 bo new hampshire, northern worcester county, but the source of this cold air that we have been talking about is still up in canada. it is going to be pouring down into southern new england as we go flew the day. the leading edge of this cold frontal boundary is producing a little bit of rain and snow shower activity as you get near the canadian border and up toward quebec. a lot of this is going to dry up as it drops southward, but we will see a period of clouds as we get toward midmorning, especially route 2 on north.

apart a little bit. they drop southward around lunchtime. this is the front coming through. so some passing clouds, but really it's all about that wind kicking up. you'll feel a big difference in temperature. high temperatures today probably 10:00 or 11:00. mid to upper 50's. then look what happens with that wind shift to the north and west. temperatures go the wrong way this afternoon. by 5:00 p.m., we're down in the 40's, and then the temperatures keep dropping here through the evening hours. with the stronger winds, wind chills going to be down in the 30's by temperatures 20's and 30's tonight. wind chills dropping throughout the course of the day, so it's a cold windy start to your weekend on your saturday, but high pressure's nosing in. that gives sunshine. decreasing winds on saturday. we'll keep that sunshine going on sunday as well. temperatures do moderate. back into the upper 50's on sunday. if you have plans on saturday outside in the morning hours, you need to be prepared for wind chills in the 20's, even into the afternoon. temperatures will hold in the 40's, but with enough wind, it's going to feel like the 30's.

>> i was just kicking madly, and he said, he kept saying, "i'm going to stab you, i'm going to stab you." emily: only on 5 -- she was stabbed by a knife-wielding attacker. the victim is talking to newscenter 5 about how she fought back. ann mccoy says training in karate and self-defense saved her life. this happened in putnam, connecticut, where a man and woman stole a car and crashed it. ann and her daughter moments later, she was fighting off that man trying to make his way into her vehicle. >> he got me in the arm massively. he said, "i'll keep stabbing unless you got out." common sense came and i got out. emily: surveillance video shows that stolen vehicle being chased in worcester. christopher harding and his female accomplice are both in

street drug linked to dozens of deaths across the country. it's call u47700, or pink. that's the common street name for it. police describe it as a synthetic opioid similar to fentanyl. it has shown up at least once in drugs tested at a state lab in new hampshire and at least one granite state death has been tied to the substance. the emergency action to fight this drug. a new statewide grant program to fight opioid abuse. maura healey committing a half million dollars to this effort. that money comes from a first in the nation settlement with cvs pharmacy over policies tied to the dispensing of opioids. healey says the grant money will support school-based prevention initiatives. emily: rabies found in a bay
