initially blaming thmedia, but later in the night tweeting that the protesters have "great #for our country and we will all be together and be proud." erika: ceremonies underway across the country to honor veterans and those currently serving our country. the annual ceremony at arlington national cemetary wrapping up just moments ago. emily: questions right now in marlborough after the death of a 5-week-old baby. an investigation now underway. newscenter 5's antoinette antonio is live in marlborough where neighbors are in shock. antoinette emily, and they are just devastated. detectives are looking into whether an adult possibly rolled over that infant in bed and whether drugs were involved. there are still several unanswered questions about what happened in this harrison place home. a baby found unconscious, later pronounced dead. a source tells 5 investigates the infant was just 5 weeks old. >> the whole family was excited to have the baby.

antoinette: yesterday, investigators found the infant in a bed with two unconscious adults, a 19-year-old woman and 23-year-old man. detectives spent much of day collecting evidence, in hopes of finding out what lead to this tragedy. >> it's pretty sad. again, we knew they were they were happy about this baby so its pretty sad a little baby died and it's not fair. antoinette: neighbors erika and jasmine benitez say they were invited to the baby shower a couple months back, but never saw the baby. sources say investigators are over onto the infant killing the -- over onto the infant, killing the baby, and that drugs could have played a role. >> to hear that, it's just kind of shocking to know that if something like that can happen here, it can happen anywhere. antoinette: northern patient is being released. as the man and woman found unconscious in the bed, they are

live in marlborough, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: thank you. right now -- a judge awards $4 million to the cambridge couple who sued this woman over the death of their baby. one-year-old rehma sabir died in 2013, under the care of aisling brady mccarthy. murder charges were dropped after the medical examiner changed the baby's cause of death to undetermined. the parent's lawyer, former attorney general martha coakley, says mccarthy may not have $4 million, but the award will stop her from profiting from a movie or book deal. erika: veterans day ceremonies president obama observing the day laying a wreath at arlington national cemetery's tomb of the unknowns just a short time ago. just after he delivered remarks at the 63rd annual national veterans day observance. earlier this morning, the president held a breakfast reception with veterans and their families in the state dining room. in the meantime, a veterans day mission in boston. volunteers going door-to-door to thank those who have served and show their appreciation. newscenter 5's sera congi is

sera? sera: a lot of communities will be holding parades and orders a veterans day. in south boston, people will see a parade of volunteers. these volunteers are doing so much more than just saying thank you. they are hitting the streets of south boston as part of a mission, operation thank a veteran is rolling out this veterans day -- this team of volunteers is knocking on doors to reach veterans and make them aware of services. >> i feel that by getting out to them, knocking on the doors showing them, that although i'm not a veteran, i do appreciate everything may sacrifice for our country. >> the most important people today, besides our veterans, are you, the volunteers.

the more than 90 volunteers taking part in operation thank a veteran, the effort to reach the 22 thousand veterans living in boston. >> the reactions that we've got not been amazing. sera: jeff alkins and gloria vieira have knocked on many doors already this year. handing out packets of vital information. >> those services could make the difference in extending their life. sera: but often these volunteers find the benefit of knocking on doors is simply listening. >> they can't believe someone wants to say thank you to them. sera: they are taking steps street by street to leave no veteran behind. >> we're going to knock on every or,'s that'r goal. sera: they are making a lot of they have reached 2500 homes of veterans, not including all of

we drop into the 40's and the farther north you go, you see the temperatures get colder. this is the air mass coming on in. the front is shifting to the north and west. you see that there are a few behind it. there are a few clouds mixing in. notice how the temperatures keep dropping. by the time the sun goes down, temperatures in the 40's. wind chills will be dropping down to be 30's. colder air is on the way. emily? emily: ok, thank you. a second night of protests nationwide against donald trump, including oregon where people marched and smashed store windows and even started dumpster fires.

of protests across the country, some turning violent. in portland, our rally turned into a riot when protesters started throwing things that police and blocking this bridge. and this major freeway in los angeles was shut down by crowd of people angry about the election result. >> if i had one message for trump, it would be we are the down. reporter: donald trump responded on twitter, first reading, professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting, very unfair. then changing his tune this morning, tweeting, love the fact that protesters have great passion for our country. we will all come together and be proud.

trucks are set outside his home at trump tower and a no-fly zone is a two mile radius. authorities working to overcome the challenge of protecting the president-elect in the nation's a guest city. >> how do you build a bubble around him when he is several feet in the air with other potential buildings where a sniper or somebody else could place themselves? reporter: back at the white house, there is 24-hour secret whether trump is there were not. more protests are planned for tonight. marcie gonzales, abc news, new york. emily: attorneys for trump say they'll enter settlement talks in the president-elect's upcoming trial involving his now-defunct trump university. the class-action fraud lawsuit filed in 2010 alleges the university failed to keep its promise to teach real estate success. former students say they spent thousands of dollars under the false impression that the school was accredited. trump's attorneys asked that the november 28 trial be delayed until after inauguration day in january.

try to settle. erika: right now, an mbta bus driver is facing charges accused of leaving the scene of an accident with passengers on board. it happened last night on main street in stoneham in front of the old dairy dome. surveillance cameras from a nearby business show the route 132 bus being pulled over by state police. the driver accused of hitting a van in melrose, getting out to look at the damage then driving off. state police did give the driver a field sobriety test. we're told alcohol was not involved but investigators are was under the influence of prescription medication. no one on the bus was hurt. emily: marshfield is tracking its first case of rabies in 15 years. two dogs are now under quarantine after they were attacked by a rabid skunk. a marshfield woman says one of her dogs bit the skunk and tossed it around the yard. both dogs are up to date with their shots and they do not appear to have symptoms of the deadly disease. erika: right now, this crash in marlborough is under investigation.

around 9:30 last night on 495 in the southbound lanes. police say only one car was involved and it rolled over. the woman was flown to umass medical center for treatment. emily: the coast guard has suspended a search for these missing boaters off cape cod. the men did not return from a boating trip on tuesday. the coast guard says it covered nearly 4,000 nautical miles has exhausted all search efforts. they say their thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families. a warning about a new synthetic street drug linked to dozens of deaths across the country. it's called u47700, or pink. police describe it as a synthetic opioid, similar to fentanyl. it has shown up at least once in drugs tested at a state lab in new hampshire, and at least one granite state death has been tied to the substance. the dea is now taking emergency action to fight the drug. emily: nine people are facing charges this afternoon after a drug rain in manchester.

new hampshire police and swat teams served a search warrant at the orange street home yesterday. they've been watching the house for weeks focused on the sale of drugs, including crack cocaine. an 18-month old child in the home at the time. police seized over 3$200 in cash -- $3200 in cash and 4 different drugs. they say the group had an extensive network for distribution. erika: bridge workers getting a higher pay rate than the governor, and taxpayers cover the bill. 5 investigates looks at the pay hike, that's courtesy of the ste. consumers back after unauthorized purchases by children. the federal hand stepping in and when you can expect to get your refund. cindy: the wind is strong out there and is bringing colder air. the timeline on when the winds die down and temperatures rebound, of next. erika: having a tough time sleeping? how you can improve your sleep by changing what you eat. the foods to avoid for a better rest.

drawbridges on the east coast. 5 investigates discovered state contracted bridge operators are not being paid between $75 and $120 an hour. that's at least $156,000 taxpayer dollars a year for a 40 hour work week. it's a bigger paycheck than the governor of our state gets. and it's a job that used to pay only $13 an hour. the massive increase in pay for the bridge tenders kicked in hour work week. thanks to a state contract for maintenance on the bridge, which triggered the state's prevailing wage law. of how the state's prevailing wage law is out of control. emily: states have prevailing 32 wage laws, but massachusetts is one of only 4 states in the country that sets the prevailing wage rates solely on union contracts. erika: your economy, voters in tiverton, rhode island approve plans for a new casino. the board of elections confirms the measure won by more than 350 votes. twin rivers plans to open the

border in 2018. emily: amazon is preparing to start a refund program for customers whose kids made purchases without permission. a federal judge has laid out rules for how amazon should reimburse those customers. the refunds come after kids made purchases while playing video games. the rules call for the e-commerce company to set up a notice and claims process starting next year. amazon now requires a password for in-app purchases. emily: a quirky holiday in china turning into a huge financial success. today marks singles day in china -- it is a version of valentine's day for people without romantic partners. alibaba, the country's biggest e-commerce brand, said sales by its thousands of retailers top to $13 billion in just 15 hours. that's four times the amount americans spent last year on cyber monday. erika: a state of emergency in north carolina as wildfires continue to rage. the more than 20 fires have forced evacuations in several counties.

these winds gusting much higher in boston and worcester. it is a blustery veterans day. agent cap gusted as much as 20 miles per hour in charlestown, rhode island, rockport, cambridge, gusting over 50. if you will be out and about, you will be contending with these winds, not just through the afternoon, but through the night. there is a wind advisory in 1 a.m. tomorrow morning. strong lujan from no look at the temperatures. it is 39 in ottawa. that is the air mass we are tapping into. we have already hit our high. temperatures have been dropping for northern worcester county. 64 plymouth avenue and the cape, but with that northwesterly wind, it's opening the door for that colder air.

and for the game, the patriots game down a gillette, it looks great. the winds life, temperatures in the 60's by day, back down to 45 degrees by kickoff. it starts out chilly. i know we have a soccer game in our household. wind chill in the 20's. even though we have the sunshine, the windchill in the 30's. a chilly start to the weekend. there are the moderating temperatures on sunday. our next chance significant rain, tuesday into wednesday, and this is important. we just talked about the high tide. look at the coastline. with that storm there is the potential for onshore wind that could cause minor coastal flooding. it could be stronger than that. that is something we will be watching for the middle of next week. in the meantime, enjoy that roller coaster riding temperatures. erika: thanks, cindy.
