cindy: yeah. randy: could get a little bit. cindy: messy weatherwise today. the flooding we're talking about has to do with the high tide which comes up around 11:00 this morning. along the coastline, be ready for that water level to rise a little bit. the rainfall right now still on the way. you can see the radar picking up quite a few showers, especially down on the south coast and cape where we've had a couple of showers already. but the storm still working up the coastline. and as it gets closer to us, that rain is going to break out across the area. there's also going to be an will interact with the tide which comes up around 11:00 a.m. that's why we do have a coastal flood advisory for that reason. some of the shore roads that are vulnerable may experience minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide. temperatures mainly running in the 40's. we only get in the lower 50's here around midday. that rain moves in late morning. the temperatures fall back a little bit this afternoon. here's a timeline on that rain. by 8:00 this morning, a couple of showers around. so have the umbrella with you. but look what happens by lunchtime.

absolutely pouring in some areas. the yellows indicating heavier downpours. can't even rule out a rumble of thunder today. notice this is with us for the evening commute. so weatherwise, the evening commute is going to be dealing with a lot more wet weather. let's get out to the roads. dry in most areas. good morning, olessa. olessa: live look outside at the expressway, a check by the south bay mall. you can see the northbound side not seeing any volume. the rest of your ride and overnight construction. 93 southbound by the leverett connector, expressway northbound by mass ave. once again by savin hill and road work wrapped up on 93 north by route 124. route 128, two projects a couple more minutes. once again, southbound as you pass by route 2. so far we're expecting trains and buses to start on schedule. emily: thank you. breaking overnight, police are investigating after a cab driver crashes into a massachusetts state police cruiser in boston.

newsroom from the scene at commonwealth ave. and berklee street. it happened around 2:30 this morning. nobody was seriously hurt, but the cruiser and a light pole were damaged. right now, patriots fans on edge. rob gronkowski could be out for a while after that blow there. gronk himself calling it the hardest hit he's taken on the field. and this morning we're learning more about the possible injury. randy: we're also hearing from quarterback tom brady meehan is at gillette stadium with what we know at this hour. doug: the first reports were this was a punctured lung, but now we're hearing it's a badly bruised chest. he's canceled a media event in new york city for madden 17. let's look at that hit one more time. it was a hard one by earl thomas. gronk sat out for five plays and

fire. emily: right now president-elect donald trump is preparing to take action, set to meet with vice president-elect mike pence at trump tower and outline candidates for his administration. the eye's erika tarantal here. erika: rudy giuliani is reportedly the frontrunner for secretary of state though john bolten, a former ambassador to the u.n. under george w. bush, is yet to be counted out. post filled. steve bannon named chief strategist. there are calls for trump to dump bannon for his connection to the alt-right movement criticized as racist, sexist and anti-semitic. the trump campaign standing by its choice. >> frankly, people should look at the full r?sum?. he's got a business degree, a naval officer.

blank in our neighborhood. we will kill them. natick is strictly white. state attorney general maura healey said a hotline is open now to report any harassment. >> in massachusetts, there are civil rights laws. there are laws about public safety. and i'm going to enforce those laws. randy: police are investigating that case in natick and tell newscenter 5 this type of behavior will not be tolerated. vice president-elect pence is meeting with republican governors fromun governor charlie baker. he sat next to pence yesterday at the republican governor's association meeting in orlando, florida. pence tweeting this photo saying it was a great meeting, discussing president-elect trump's plan to work with the states. emily: president-elect trump's working to get top-secret security clearance foris h children. the trump team has asked the white house to explore the possibility, according to a cnn report. the trump children would need to

white house to get that clearance. once trump is president, he could put in the request himself. right now, boston's mayor calling for changes weeks after this deadly tragedy. two worrs killed in a trench collapse. the eyeopener's sera congi live in the south end this morning with the new action mayor walsh is proposing. sera? sera: emily, the two men were killed here in a trench. mayor walsh is proposing ne companies are in good standing before any work permits are issued. take a look at the chaotic scene. it was on october 21 when kelvin mattocks and robert higgins were killed after the trench flooded. those men were working for atlantic drain service. 5 investigates uncovered eight earlier violations this year and fines of $20,000 by osha. mayor walsh's proposal would

is going to be with us right through the evening commute as well. so a wet tuesday ahead. we need the rainfall. looks like a good soaking around or just over an inch in some areas. there might be an axis of heavier rain off to the west. another possible on the cape. plan on a good soaking rainfall today. it's not just the rain coming in. you kn that super moon we've been tracking? the tides are the highest of the year. we'll add an easterly wind on that. from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., if you live along the coastline, some of th s flooded. some minor coastal flooding possible. here are the high tide times from revere, quincy, boston, scituate, around 11:00 this morning. we have another on wednesday. the tide not as high. there may be lingering effects tomorrow midday as well. here's the storm approaching from the south this morning. you can see there's rain getting organized. a couple of bands. there's one batch of heavier rain there. another one off to the west. but a little bit of a tropical connection with this. so a little more available moisture to come on down over the course of the day.

there. the bulk of the area is pretty quiet. we did have rain come through over the cape in the past hour or so. here are the temperatures running close to 50 degrees. it's 49 in boston. 46 in worcester. notice some 30's orange on up to nashua. it's a chilly start out the door. the winds are going to pick up out of the northeast especially along the coast. there will likely be gusts this afternoon over 20 miles an hour. with the rain and wind off the water, low to mid 50's the best at the coastline but holding in the 40's over t we step you through the timeline. 7:00, 8:00 this morning, a couple of showers around, morning commute not all that bad, but notice by lunchtime, steady rains starting to work on in. as we get into the afternoon, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, look at this. the yellows showing up. these are heavier downpours that are going to be embedded within the main area of rain. can't even rule out a rumble of thunder. where we get those heavier rains, there will be ponding on the roads, and that lingers

south by the leverett connector and on the expressway we have several projects. they're all gone. same story on 93 northbound by route 24. construction also cleared awray on 128. road work by highland ave. so has the work on 128 south by route 2. so far trains and buses are starting the morning on schedule. emily: growing outrage after an army veteran says his meal was taken away from him on veterans die. it happened at a veterans giving a free meal. the manager told him other customers raised questions about his uniform. that's when he showed his i.d. and discharge papers. but his meal was still taken. and while many have supported walker, others raised suspicions about his uniform. he says he bought the uniform after he retired to wear on veterans day as a tribute. >> i purposely don't wear a rank or a name tag as not to be

emily: chili's says they fell short and are working to make it right. randy: asian shores lower as investors anticipate a rate hike boost in the united states. u.s. stock futures are higher. investors are looking for the monthly retail sales report, which is due out a little bit later today. samsung changing gears, investing its time and money into the automotive business. the electronics company has agreed to buy herman international industries. this deal is worth $8 billion. samsung says it will not make cars itself but sees the industry as a growth sector. it's a move past cell phones after the galaxy note 7 incident.

just getting started this morning, yeah. have an umbrella with you today. a couple of showers beginning to lift up from the south right now. i think that's all we're dealing with the next couple of hours. a few areas of showers. here's the storm to our south. as it approaches, the rain is going to get heavier, the winds are going to pick up, and that easterly wind combined with the astronomically high tides leading to concerns for the midday high tide. there is a coast at flood advisory 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for that reason. some of the shore roads that are vulnerable may experience minor coastal flding around lunchtime today. starting in the 40's. we get up only to the low 50's, even cooler over the interior. that rain comes in mid to late morning. it's with us through the afternoon. you can see it here on futurecast. 8:00 a.m., a few showers around. by lunchtime, steady rain is getting in here, and it's going to be heavy at times. midafternoon right through that evening commute. yellows and oranges indicating heavy downpours. thunder possible today and ponding of the water for the

luckily, no one was seriously hurt. patriots tight end rob gronkowski suffering a chest injury. our mike lynch reporting it could be a bruised sternum. it might have come from this hit during sunday's game against the seahawks. initial speculation was that onk had a punctured lung. also, donald trump and mike pence set to meet today at trump tower to discuss cabinet positions. it's reported this morning former new york city mayor rudy giuliani is a top pick for secretary of state. emily? emily: thanks. right now the mbta is asking questions after commuter rail accint that went unreported. randy: and the eye's nicole estaphan now at south station with the punishment handed down as this investigation unfolds. nicole: the accident happening earlier this month. the big question this morning, why was it not reported. the commuter train was approaching south station on november 4 when it hit a train bumper.

a rail tie. the train was traveling at just 6 miles per hour. the t's fiscal and management control board compared it to this september crash in hoboken, new jersey. one person was killed. more than 100 others hurt when a transit train was going at a high speed of 21 miles per hour and crashed into the terminal. now, the crew members on the commuter train have been placed on leave pending the outcome of this investigation. there were no passengers onboard this train at the time of the crash. we are live at south station is randy: all right, nicole. thank you. you can soon see this subway car along the mbta's orange line. the t is releasing this image of the new prototype. the 152 new orange line cars will be coming into service in january of 2019, replacing decades-old railcars and a pilot train will arrive next september with production beginning after that. the red line is also getting a face-lift as a pilot rain is due

emily: right now, brockton's mayor is being asked to explain why he went back to school on the taxpayers' dime. the city council voted last night to call mayor bill carpenter in front of the finance committee to answer questions aut classes he took to learn cape verdean creole. the city paid $585 for it. >> it's the ethical implications of it that we, as public officials, can't simply decide that we want to take a course and the taxpayer should pay for it. emily: the about a $9,000 piece of granite bought with his budget that's now missing. both the mayor and the chief will appear before the finance committee next monday. randy: boston-based new balance is putting distance between itself and a white supremacist website. the daily stormer proclaim new balance the, quote, official shoes of white people this weekend after the company's vice president said the election of donald trump was a move in the right direction.

tyngsboro neighborhood looking for food. he says he started to be concerned about the bear, that it would come after him. that's when he ran away. >> i said, justin, are you all right? i started screaming at him. randy: the bear was not aggressive. they think it's the same one roaming around chelmsford. these sightings are the bears are getting ready for winter and roaming around for food. and to keep them away, avoid having food sources, bird feeds and the like around. emily: president-elect trump working on his team. and the comments that could ruin college athletes' careers. a jarring he said to this moment at a political protest.

protestors of the dakota access pipeline. federal authorities are putting the project on hold, saying they want to have additional discussions with the standing rock sioux tribe. protestors say $3.7 billion in this project could jeopardize a culturally significant and federally owned water source. developers say they followed all of the legal requirements. emily: u.s. forces may have committed war crimes in afghanistan according to the international criminal court. the chief prosecutor says american armed cia may have tortured and raped dozens of detainees between 2003 and 2014, most of it in the first year. americans could be indicted although washington has not joined that global court. a state department spokesperson says the u.s. does not believe the investigation is warranted. randy: guilty on all counts, the verdict in georgia's so-called hot car murder trial. justin ross harris was accused of intentionally leaving his 22-month-old son cooper in a hot
