>> a deadly shooting inside of a boston home. anchor: a serial murderer making the same mistake every time. anchor: when some of the colder air will reach us. how many cases do we have? anchor: five for good. a little boy helping kids in need. >> this is newscenter 5 at 7:00. anchor: one man is dead after a shooting inside of a home on west cottage street in boston. good evening. i'm maria stephanos. ed: i'm ed harding. police say the shooter and the victim knew each other.

scene. reporter: they have reopened west cottage street. they are up there at number 20. it is a red brick building. this call came in to police around 4:20 today as a homeowner shot an intruder. the two men actually did know each other. they were fighting. police found one of the men in he was lying dead in the house doorway. >> it looks like what happened to individuals who are known to each other were involved in an argument. we have one deceased. the other person is in homicide being interrogated. reporter: investigators do have a gun.

the public is in no danger. ed: we have a picture of a deadly crash causing major delays. the train hit a pedestrian. police are on scene at wellesley square station right now. there are significant delays on the framingham-worcester commuter line. maria: four crimes in less than two weeks. all of them bank robberies and the fbi thinks this man was behind them all. but as jorge quiroga tells us really caught the eye of investigators. reporter: it's not unusual for the fbi to give suspects a nickname. he cut this guy misspells the word robbery may have dubbed him the spelling bee bandit. seen here in security photos usually wearing a patriots hat. the same man is believed

heists the latest on sunday november 13 at a td bank in peabody the fbi suspects the man is also responsible for 3 similar robberies since halloween : in arlington, reading and burlington. the suspect using the same routine, each time, putting on sunglasses after entering the bank, he then writes the word 'robbery' on a withdrawal slip, misspelling the word by using only one b. the fbi fears, the suspect has been getting more and more aggrve >> the tone of his voice is more aggressive. it is resulting in a greater loss. reporter: nothing funny about this misspelling bandit. the fbi wants them off of the streets. they are offering a $1000 reward for information leading to his arrest. anchor: the college student who

half years behind bars. joseph castano changed his plea to guilty in a salem courtroom this afternoon, he was convicted of motor vehicle homicide and manslaughter in the death of craig sampson. castano was visiting his childhood friend at endicott college in beverly last april, when he crashed into a utility pole. craig sampson's father hopes there is a lesson in the tragedy. >> i hope that our loss,s somebody else from having the same loss. ed: castano will also serve three year's probation and will lose his driver's license for 15 years. maria: sal dimasi has only days left in prison after a judge granted his request for early release today. the former massachusetts house speaker is battling health issues. dimasi's wife is giving her only on-camera interview to our janet wu, who joins us now. reporter: sal dimasi will be

federal prison at 10 am on tuesday. this comes after federal prosecutors, the bureau of prisons and the judge who sentenced him said it was time for him to come home. debbie dimasi said she couldn't believe it when she received the call from their attorney this morning. >> when i heard it was utter shock and disbelief. it's sinking in slightly. when i am able to see him and walk with him out of the prison that will be amazing. that is when i will believe it. reporter: she said her husband has lost 70 pounds after suffering and being treated for neck, tongue and prostate cancer since he entered prison in 2011. he can only swallow puree foods and liquids because radiation's damage to his esophagus and even that is challenge. >> with his swallowing being the way it is, he's really just wasting way to nothing. so i'm just so grateful i do want to say i'm very greateful to judge wolf.

reporter: since he was a teenager, jason alulia has known dimasi. he worked for the former speaker for 10 years. he said the judge made clear this had nothing to do with dimasi's former political status. >> if you read the decision, you can see it was not special treatment, he met the qualifications set forth by the doj and the judge realized he's not getting the care he needs in prison that he will get at home. >> compassionate release should be more available generally wehterh you have a big . it is about getting people in the proper setting given the situation they are in. reporter: dimasi will be home just in time for thanksgiving. >> today was a fabous day. anchor: dimasi willave served five of his 8 year sentence when he leaves prison next tuesday. he will be confined to his home at least six months, leaving only for medical visits and religious observances approved by probation. ed: president-elect donald trump is meeting with one of his top critics this weekend mitt
