it's about 50 on the cape where we have a blanket of clouds but also some stronger winds. there's a storm out in the ocean that's going to stay there, and as high pressure noses in from the west, most of us will have light winds and sunshine. on the cape, the winds are gusting over 30 miles an hour and throughout the day, we're going to hang on to wind on the cape. elsewhere, wind should be under 10 or 15 miles an hour. but it is a breezy day on the cape. clouds should dissipate later this morning with sunshine for everyone as we go through the afternoon. by lunchtime the mid 50's, topping out at 60. big changes for your weekend. more on that coming up. let's get you out to the roads. olessa: good morning, everyone. a live look to start things off. a check of the pike by alston-brighton, eastbound to the top of the screen. let's go to the maps and check the rest of your ride. no complaints traveling into town. construction clearing in a little bit as you head south of town by 93 northbound by route 24. road work around 128.

minutes. we're expecting trains and buses a start on schedule. randy: thank you. breaking overnight, a tense situation as police swarm a neighborhood. emily: a mother and child were caught in the middle and the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is in norton right now with what we've learned. antoinette? antoinette: emily and randy, police made that arrest overnight, the man who barricaded himself in a home. he said he of rounds of ammunition, even firing at police officers. here's a look at that scene from overnight. the tense situation starting around 9:30 last night. police called to this home on john scott boulevard because of an argument between a man and a woman. that woman managed to escape with a young child. but the man identified as 42-year-old heath mullet barricaded himself inside. the swat team and other local police agencies were called in. at one point, several rounds

vehicle. mullet eventually surrendered and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. he now faces several charges including assault with intent to murder. there were no other injuries. we're live in norton this morning. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: antoinette, thank you. other stories we're following right now, firefighters are trying to figure out what caused a house fire on tewksbury on chandler street. you can see the flames. we're told by the fire department the house was abandoned and the fire does not seem suspicious according to firefighters. two of them were treated for minor injuries. randy: a teenager expected in court accused of attacking a 14-year-old girl at a school bus stop in bourne. 18-year-old john allen was arrested yesterday. he grabbed the girl by the neck, nearly strangled her before driving away.

emily: police and federal agents are looking for the suspect in a rash of bank robberies. he's been dubbed the spelling bee bandit. and that's because the word robbery is misspelled on all of the notes that he passes on tellers demanding cash. he's the suspect in at least four bank robberies in the area since halloween, the most recent happening at a td bank in peabody. the f.b.i. says he has never shown a weapon, but investigators say he has seemed more agitated with every heist. >> this person teller counter and the tone of his voice and his verbal interaction with the tellers has become more aggressive. emily: there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. randy: boston police investigating a deadly shooting inside a home in dorchester. police were called to this home on west cottage street yesterday afternoon.

there was a confrontation leaving one dead. the city's police commissioner says there are just too many guns on the streets. >> two families obviously that will be impacted forever here. again, mayor walsh, myself, always talking about the violence and how many guns are out there. this is why woe have to continue to get the guns off the street. randy: the other person involved is being questioned by police. no names released. emily: donald trump is getting ready for more meetings as he tries to fill his presidential erika tracking overnight developments, including a very familiar name around here, which is apparently in play, erika. erika: as you know, that name getting a lot of attention this morning. but first an actual pick. the president-elect has offered retired general michael flynn the job of national security advisor. flynn has been highly critical of the current administration. he's emphasized the need for more aggressive u.s. military action to fight isis. the big talk about former

romney. he'll meet with trump tomorrow. despite his blistering comments, he may be a candidate for secretary of state. meantime, the president-elect is taking credit for not moving ford to mexico. ford, which never planned to close the plant, is still planning to move some production of the focus from michigan to mexico. randy? randy: right now, three girls are facing charges after an alarming attack on the t, and the eyeopener's sera congi is in boston now with how witnesses tried to stop this assault. sera: well, randy, it all came to an end here at andrew station when a witness hit the emergency

49-year-old woman, got on a red line train at savin hill, and it was girls mocking her accent, telling her go back to your own country. the when the victim tried to move away, the girls punched her and struck her in the face with a cell phone. the witness says the girls were celebrating when they got off the train. a witness got a photo of them. arrested, due back in court later this month. as we reported, the state is so concerned about hate crimes right now, the attorney general's office has set up a special hotline. live in south boston, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: new numbers as the state tries to curb suspension rates for students at risk. the numbers are increasing. the department of elementary and secondary education found english language learners were

the ocean and high pressure will nose in. that will dominate our weather until this storm catches up with us saturday night into sunday. a lot of sunshine today. however, notice the winds pretty light around the boston area, at or below 10 miles an hour. different story on the cape today. these are the gusts up around 30 miles per hour and stay in the afternoon. atmosphere windy day on the cape. there will be clouds that dissipate with time this morning. temperatures no low to mid 50's from the cape to marshfield. boston close to 60. we should get there taunton, lawrence. really a fantastic day today. clouds dissipating over the cape. clear skies tonight. we'll drop down into the upper 30's in our coldest suburbs. low 40's in town. in the cape, we'll stay mostly in the mid 40's. saturday, increasing clouds but still in the 50's. that will change as this storm

night into sunday is mainly going to go to our north. it will wrap in colder air on the back side, so through parts of northern western new england, there could be snow, a few inches from the berkshires into vermont. around here, nothing more than a few flakes possible, some flurries through the worcester hills. saturday the pick day of the weekend. on sunday, take a look, a few clouds saturday evening on the cape. and then the clouds fill in overnight. by 6:00 on sunday showers pulls in. i think the wettest part of your sunday is probably just before lunchtime. a lot of those showers dissipate, but look at the snow out across eastern new york state into western massachusetts. that continues, and that's why there could be a couple of inches out that way. a few flurries out through the worcester hills. blustery, colder. no higher than 40 on monday and stuck in the 40's through thanksgiving.

investors are waiting for the sales reports due out next week. and massachusetts lost more than 5,000 jobs last month according to the latest report from the commonwealth. fewer people look for work during october. but economy experts say the latest largest and the losses were in education and health services and leisure and hospitality. those sectors have uneven results month to month. the unemployment rate 3.3% in october. emily: workers at a major u.s. airport have voted to strike just ahead of thanksgiving travel. about 500 workers at chicago's o'hare international airport are asking for a $15 hourly wage. the workers include baggage handlers, cabin cleaners, januaitors and wheelchair attendants. a union president says a walkout could disrupt travel.

england that get some snow. there are blizzard warnings up here. western minnesota, northeastern south dakota, this storm is really the first big winter storm of the season. it's going to track through the great lakes here on saturday as well. our skies are clear, the exception being the cape. this storm will stay in the open waters. it will kick up the winds on cape cod. we're seeing that this boston. look at buffalo. 70 degrees. unusually warm here in the northeast. mid 60's from new york. upper 60's down to d.c. it's a nice day in the northeast, but we're watching that system out through the northern plain states. it is going to shift westward. you can see that on futurecast as it works on through. snow for the lakes, parts of northern west new england. a period of rain as we get toward saturday night and especially early on sunday and then look at the pattern change.
